Internal Temperature Off

If our internal body temperature is 98.6 degrees, why aren't we most comfortable in 98.6 degree weather?

you are close to correct with the "body heat we give off" thought

remember, every movement we make (including the beating of our hearts) creates heat

that heat has to go somewhere or stay in your body

if you were to wrap yourself in a really good insulating blanket so that almost no heat could escape, the heat you generate would stay in your body and increase the temperature of your body

soon, your brain would overheat and you would die

the heat has to go somewhere and thats why we are comfortable in a temperature that takes away our extra heat but doesn't strip us of what we need to keep our core at that 98+

when you excersize, you make more heat, and you need more heat removal, which is why we like it even cooler when we are working hard

Will a sunburn affect your basal body temperature?

Well, it's only on my chest and on my arms. Went to a baseball game and didn't think it was going to be as hot as it actually was so I didn't use sunscreen. Anyway, the burn isn't extreme. It's just a lot of heat coming off of my skin. It's just a normal sunburn, but it's the first one of the year so it probably feels and looks worse because it is the first one this year. I've just never had to worry about my bbt before so I wasn't sure about the burn affecting it.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback guys. :)

Does your external body temp match your internal?

Your body temp can vary depending on where you take it, eg: if you took your temperature rectally, it would differ slightly from under your armpit or in your mouth. External factors would further influence that. If you had just eaten ice cream or just had a really hot bath, of course it would differ.

I wouldn't worry about the difference between your external and internal temperatures, I'd worry more about skin peeling and skin cancer...

Can sitting by a space-heater raise your internal body temp?

Yes, it'll cause your body temp. to rise. Even drinking coffee can give an artifical fever effect. Stay away from the heater for a good half hour and re-take your temp.

I feel feverish but my body temperature is normal. What is this?

Hi Verivel Murugan,Thanks for the question, hope you get better soon.If you check my page I have answered the same question, however I will give you the summary of what to look out for.Congratulations, you are one of the very few people who knows what the fuck is happening with their bodies. It sounds like you are in the early stages of either an internal fever or something more psychogenic which is stress-related. Nice for catching it so early, most of us do not. Are you stressed in any way at the minute, whether that be with work, life, relationships? When we feel this feverish, anxious, weariness, your body is usually trying to tell you to slow down, rest, so that the immune system can step in and deal with any underlying issues that may be causing you discomfort. What is key is that at the moment your body is in a Sympathetic state, fever, chills, anxious, jittery all symptoms off being over stimulated in the sympathetic response of your nervous system.Take time to rest, drink water, and relax with some meditation, as the temperature and other symptoms may follow soon. Listen to your body and you will be fine.Hope that helps,Video responses coming soon,If you liked the response please up-vote and follow,R.

If our body temperature is 98.6 degrees, then why......???

It's not hot enough to burn. We feel the heat all over, but our nerves filter out steady state conditions. Ever swim in cool water? For a while it's very uncomfortable. We feel a chill. Our body adjusts to the cool water after a few minutes and we don't think about it any more.
I got off the plane in Texas and it was like an oven. After a few days I didn't notice the heat as much.
Our sensor systems tune out background noise so we can focus on changing conditions. Our heat sensory system , nerves, are like that too.
