What to wear for a job interview at a library?

What you wear to an interview must express your individuality and personal taste.

It probably is that the common stereotype that librarian wears neat collared shirts, slacks, ankle socks, and loafers. If that is not your thing, don't wear that or you'll lack confidence and seem uncomfortable about looking weird.

The key is wearing things that you comfortable in, like a fitted t-shirt that isn't too revealing and a pair of nice jeans. Don't go overboard, skimpy, or look like a slob. Go out and buy something if you want that you know looks great on you! If you wind up to be trying too hard even for a job at the library, it'll be obvious.

Another tip is: Wear something young and stylish and balance it with something more classic and conservative.
E.g.) Astylish summer knit/top/tunic, and trousers.
E.g.) Skinny/wide-leg jeans on bottom, and a neat collared shirt in dark blue or something on top.

What to wear for job interview at library?

The following are accepted standards in the job market. Follow them if you want to make a positive first impression. These guidelines will of course vary from country to country and the type of job you are applying for. The best way to find out how you should dress up for an interview is to dress a little bit higher than the employees you would be working with.

Women:
· Don't wear your skirts too short or too tight, heels to high, or blouses too low and too sheer.
· Skip the loud nail colors and long nails. Keep your makeup subtle.
· Carry an extra pair of stockings just in case and wear them, even in the summer.
· Don't wear too much jewelry; keep it simple. Don't wear lots of earrings.
· Conservative blouse and suit, with skirt not too short, sensible heels, subtle make up and jewelry. Fill only one hole with earrings if you have many. Never wear large hoop earrings.

Men
· Don't wear an earring.
· Keep your nails clean and trimmed and remember to shave.
· Wear knee length socks that match your pants to avoid "the sock gap."
· A dark suit, white shirt, tie and dark oxford shoes. (This will vary from country to country and the type of job being applied for).

Everyone
· If you think you need a haircut, get one.
· Don't splash on too much perfume or aftershave. Many people are allergic to scents.
· Don't wear a nose ring.
· Take a shower that morning and wear a deodorant.
· Polish your shoes and press your clothes the night before.
· Absolutely don't chew gum or smoke.
· If you suffer from sweaty palms, keep a handkerchief with a little baby powder or cornstarch in it. Before your interview, go into the restroom and dry your hands with it.
· Go to the interview alone. Don't bring a friend or relative.
· Get a good night's sleep the night before.

Peace and every blessing!

Job interview for library tomorrow? Tips?

I'm going to be a junior next year and our library has a total of 6 positions for student pages and 1 is currently open now. I already volunteer at the library in circulation.

I have an interview tomorrow for the job and I was wondering what type of questions I should ask and some possible answers to a few questions like: What is your greatest weakness? The job is pretty much shelving and organizing the books, which was stated in the description. I asked my friend who already works there for some tips and he told me ask a lot of relevant questions and think of times when I have been on a team and mostly team orientated things. I can't think of much, but I feel like I have a few things to say.

I don't do team sports, mostly because I can't find a sport I like and the people that make up the teams that I know at school are...just mean..

I'm mostly looking for tips and possible questions to ask that can help me land this job because I REALLY WANT IT!!! :D Thanks!

Library assistant job interview?

First, while knowledge of Dewey Decimal is always a good thing, you said you were applying at a college, correct? Most academic libraries use the LOC (Library of Congress) classification, so you should familiarize yourself with that more than the DDC. Also, learn about the patron profile. What kind of students at the college are most likely to use the library? What classes do they take? What are their library needs? Emphasize your customer service skills most of all. Talk about how friendly you would be with the public and how you are able to deal with conflicts and unusual situations. If you read a lot, talk about your readers' advisory skills (basically, how well you can recommend books to a patron, although this comes up more in a public than academic library). The website below has some very useful interview tips; I've used it frequently. Good luck!

I have an interview for a library catalogue position.  What questions should I prepare for?

Penny Robertson gave very good advice. You should also be prepared for questions about cataloging rules such as AACR2r and RDA, and the use of authority records such as the Library of Congress authority files. You may also be asked about your familiarity with different types of integrated library systems, and your understanding of how to access, download and modify bibliographic records from sources such as OCLC. (Become very familiar with World Cat). You may also be asked about your knowledge of programming and query languages (e.g. SQL), as well as web authoring tools, because your collateral responsibilities may include maintaining the library’s website, and its OPAC.If this position entails a lot of original cataloging , you may want to ask about foreign language and subject matter expertise requirements, for current and anticipated collection needs. If you can read Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Russian, by all means mention it. You may want to ask if you should study a particular foreign language for the position, if you haven’t. I wouldn’t study any of the Romance languages, particularly Spanish. I have a B.A. in Spanish Literature, it never helped me get a library job. My high school study of Hebrew and Arabic, helped me get me my first two of them.

Why is Library Genesis not working?

I’m not sure about gen.lib.rus.ec.Is it up? reports it to be up and running but I can’t seem to open it.Have you tried the other domains of libgen, viz. Libgen.io or libgen.pw?They seem to be working perfectly fine, except a few errors now and then.

What not to say in a library job interview? (serious question)?

Even though it may not be a dream job...treat it as one! Give your 100% and complete honesty at all times...so how friendly you are, but not so friendly that your trying to kiss a**...

Be confident about yourself...
Try not to think to much about the interview...talk to the person as if they are a long time friend

If you need to work limited hours...don't say that you "can't" do anything
For instance,
You may want Sundays off or something
"If I am given the opportunity to work for you I'd like to mention that I would appreciate if I could avoid working on Sundays, but if my request influences my opportunity then I can work around my work schedule"

Be respectful!

What is it like to work at a public library?

What is it like to work in a public library?  Well like most jobs that serve the public, it can be great or it can be terrible, it just depends on the day!  We have great patrons that we love to see come in, we have patrons who treat us like imbeciles who are there to do their biding, we have fun with kids during story time and we have kids who think its fun to climb on our roof at night.    One plus, most days offer a variety of jobs to do but I work for two small libraries where we all pitch in.  Some days we are decorating for a holiday, designing a display, popping popcorn or helping someone use a computer.  Other days it is cleaning bathrooms, shoveling snow and shelf reading. Circulation has to check in material, check out material, help patrons with the copy machine and computers as well as shelving books and helping find materials.  It is very, very rare to read anything while you are working the circulation desk, unless you are cutting out obits and stories from the newspaper.  So if you think working at a library would be awesome cause  you just love to read-- think again.
