Iphone - 3g Data Overrides Wifi - What

Is it ok to have wifi and data on at the same time?

No. When data is enabled, it will only be used when you are not connected to wifi (iOS was built to prefer wifi).Yes. Your cellular company (i.e AT&T, Verizon, etc) doesn't know how much data you use over wifi, and they will not bill you for it (obviously, there is some cost for internet in your house, but that is separate). When you are actively using the phone on wifi, iOS 5 will not use any cellular data.Edit (thanks, Gerry): When the phone is locked, it may turn off wifi (in order to save battery), and use data for some background processes like push mail. Chances are those processes will use negligible amounts of data, but still note worthy.Be careful of doing large downloads when you aren't connected to wifi. Downloading apps (which can happen automatically in some cases), and streaming videos are two big resource hogs.

3G or WiFi (iPhone Question)?

I am about to buy an iPhone, but one question is bothering me. I come from the UK and I will be buying a iPhone on Pay as you Go. I use Safari on my phone, use iMessage and use apps that require internet connection (like WhatsApp and Kik). When I use the internet in these ways, will I still be using up my credit on data or will I be able to use the internet (in these ways) over WiFi? Or is there a way that I can change the settings on my iPhone, so that when I browse the internet and stuff, i won't be charged, off my credit? I will be on Vodafone UK and I am going to but an iPhone 4 or 4S (not sure yet).

How can I download apps that are over 100 MB on an iPhone?

Not sure if it was glitch or what but it worked for me. Firstly, under settings-> mobile data, make sure it's active for app store. And secondly, under settings-> iTunes & App store, make sure apps and updates are active under automatic downloads. Also, under the same option make sure mobile data tab is active too. I was able to download 1.3 Gb NFS update easily without Wi-fi and by only using my cellular data. Yeah it will throw the message of needing incremental 100 Mb to be downloaded on wi-fi but it still worked.

Can I send and receive texts if I turn off cellular data and Wi-Fi on my iPhone?

Certainly ‘Yes ‘ .SMS stands for Short Message Services .This one of the many Basic services just like telephony , call waiting etc which need to be provisioned for a stranded Mobile subscriber , so It doesn't Matter which Handset you are using , ( Iphone.. Andriod or any basich phone like Nokia 3310 )SMS falls under is non-voice basic services .So SMS service is pretty old and does not required the “Data” ( here data means data services enables eg. 2g ( edge/GPRS), 3 data, or 4G) or Wifi connection .I would say any mobile phone should support this basic service .Even if you are not talking your phone is constantly sending and receiving information through radio channels towards Base transceiver station ( BTS) eg, control channel. In GSM to enable SMS, there are some basic protocols such as SS7(Signaling System No.7) and SMPP(Short Message Peer to Peer Protocol).SS7 used between core elements. SMPP is used in IP domain.Below is the complete call flow with more details :-image src: rf wirelessSo as long as you have GSM signal you can send and recive sms.Now a days some operators have Wifi Calling service here you can still send and receive voice calls and legacy SMS if you are on coverage of only WiFi.interesting point here that SMS is transmitted via Mobile Application Part (MAP) of the SS7 protocol where the payload length limited by 1120 bits, which further limits the maximum size of txt message as 160 7-bit characters .Well it is also worth to mention that the new IM messaging apps like whatsapp, Viber , WeChat etc are killing legacy SMS service and rarely people use SMS .If you liked it please upvote!

Does Google Play Music need WiFi to function? If not, how can I listen to my music offline?

When I try to play music on my phone from Google Play music, on cellular data, I usually see this error message:(note also that the tracks are greyed out, indicating they cannot be played)I contacted Google Support in a live chat, and identified that playback works fine when I am connected to WiFi, but on cellular data it does not work. The support rep said I needed a “strong” connection (but for a long time could not clarify what that meant - more bars? 4G not 3G? higher bandwidth? shorter ping time?).I pushed a few times, and he finally clarified 3Mbps download is required. At home, my cellular data cannot supply that, but I will try when I am out next, and see if that’s true (kinda seems like he made up a number to get rid of me!).

How can I let Android automatically turn off Mobile data connection when I turn on wifi and vice versa?

In android, WiFi is given more priority. The main reasons being..to save battery as mobile data consumes a lot more battery than what WiFi does and also, WiFi’s usually are a lot faster in terms of internet speed compared to mobile data. When the mobile data is ON and you turn on the WiFi, it automatically gets connected to a WiFi network which it recognises and stops using the mobile data. So you don't have to turn off the mobile data when you turn on WiFi.When the phone is connected to a WiFi network and when you switch on the mobile data, it has no affect on it. It continues to use mobile data. The only time mobile data is used while the phone is connected to a WiFi network is when the WiFi has limited access (the WiFi has an exclamation mark on it)It shows that the phone is connected to the WiFi with limited access but uses mobile data in the background.

How can you avoid being disconnected on a Whatsapp call when someone calls your mobile?

If you intend to enjoy uninterrupted calls on WhatsApp while still using your 3G/4G mobile data Goto your phone’s call forwarding option and forward your incoming phone calls on some other number/voicemail or missed call alert number (activated/provided by your operator) this will resolve the issue of WhatsApp call getting interrupted by an incoming regular call, the other alternative is to use wifi if you are in coverage while putting your phone on aeroplane/flight mode.
