You can get a bad ESN three ways: reporting your phone as lost or stolen, if the phone is still active on your wireless account or if you have an outstanding balance on your account. What does it mean if an iPhone has a bad ESN and can I buy it?
My iPhone 5s was stolen and Verizon as usual is not taking any pity from anyone nor would they offer me a replacement at a discount so if I want the replacement I would have to buy it at full price. I looked online on ebay and saw some iPhone 5s that were really cheap selling but when I look it says bad ESN. I read somewhere that you cannot activate this with your provider is that is the case. Is this true and what exactly is bad ESN on an iPhone?

Unlocking and Activation are two different steps. You might get a cheaper iPhone but you will still pay for it anyway when you buy unlock code or activation bypass software. Ok so on ebay they have an iphone 5 with a. bad IMEI but i don't use contracts, so basically i just need a phone that i can use with wifi and not a contract... my questions are... is the phone still usable? can i use it with wifi and not have too pay a contract? thanks!
Will the Apple Store replace a iPhone 5c with a bad ESN?
I bought this phone but is still active on a Sprint account. It is still under the 1year manufacturer warranty and has never been opened or tampered with. The only resolution I have seen is a "swap" service on eBay. Are they just going to an Apple Store and swapping these phones? If not how are they swapping the bad ESN phone for a brand new phone?
