Is 16 A Good Age To Do Gym Stunt

Going to the gym at age 16?

It's OK age. I started at 16.

But there are few thing you should be aware of:
-try to find a gym with non-bodybuilding coaches, bodybuilders will give you completely useless training program, unless you want to be really huge, and they'll always try to sell you some sh**
-protein shakes aren't obligatory, unless you're really skinny. Just eat much meat, pasta and similar protein rich food
-don't become obsessed with going to gym, the gym exist for you, and you don't exist only for going to gym
-don't became too buff, it'll completely cut your stamina down, unless you're big-boned (for example, I have 190-pound all muscle friend, but he got muscles too fast and he can't run now, but I have 215 pounds, not fat and not too muscular, but I'm big boned and I have pretty good stamina)
-try to use gym 2 times a week and mix it with some other sports (like handball, basketball or soccer), and you'll have both strength and stamina
-STAY AWAY FROM STEROIDS
-do a short training at home every day (including 100 push-ups, 20 squats on one leg (10 on the each), and 100 on two legs, and maybe 10 minutes of running)

At what age should I start going to the gym?

There's no research to substantiate the idea that lifting weights can or will stunt your growth.  That's generally the primary concern for people worried about going to the gym at certain ages.  At 17, there should be no concerns about going to the gym.  The only thing you need to be sure of is that you have proper guidance in performing the various exercises and in the use of the machinery available.  Don't be stupid, and overload on weight, start light and learn proper form first.  The weights will come.  Focus on progressive overload with sound form and you will get strong pretty quickly.Oh, and ignore the machines for as long as you can.  Use the basic, compound barbell movements to get bigger and stronger.

Will working out at the age of 16 stunt my growth? I'm also a bit fat, will this result in excess skin?

Wow.... You aren't too bright are you? No offense...

Working out does not stunt your growth unless your like 8 years old and are becoming a body builder >.> I'm 15 and i go to gym 3 times a week, 3-4 times is not bad at all and no exercises will stunt your growth.

Its going to take a few years probably for you to loose that weight, and on top of that, get abs. I'm extremely fit and I've been going to gym for about 6 months, and almost have abs now, but thats because i started with only weighing like 110 pounds. I now weight like 120, which is good because I wanted to gain weight, and I'm hoping to have abs that show w/o flexing by 6 months from now. As you see, don't expect to loose like 5 pounds a week or anything, it will probably take much longer than you think so don't get overwhelmed if you don't see a difference at first, it is very gradual.

No offense to the beginning :p

I am 16 years old and I have been going to gym for the past six months.Everyone is saying that my height will stunt. Should I continue my gym or wait until puberty?

Who is this person called "everyone", is (s)he your friend/neighbor/relative/parent/well wisher? I could really go into a long drawn lecture format about this. But I would just like to point out to you that the great Arnold Schwarzenegger also started at around 15 years. In fact when he was 16, he won his first competition. You might argue, about genetics now, given it is the Great Schwarzenegger.Ok, you have a point there. In which case, I'd like to point you to myself.I started lifting weights at age 15. I have continued to do so till date and plan to go on.It did not stunt my height. As a matter of fact, I am taller than both my parents. So as long as you have a proper healthy diet and good exercise regime, you really don't need to worry about getting stunted. But then again, you will only grow till about 18-20 years of age and will stop and also your inherent DNA will play a pivotal role in deciding how tall you grow, regardless of your gym habits.

Is 16 years too young for the gym?

Australian Rules Football is full of 16 year olds who train regularly at gyms. Indeed look at the Olympics -- heaps of young people. Very muscly. Just talk to a trainer so you do it properly and don't injure yourself (as you should do at any age). Its good to start early -- you won't injure yourself by starting too late.

What is a good age to start lifting weights?

i have heard time and time again that young people shouldn't weight train.

i disagree.

the only reason i would tell a child not to weight train is if the child acted carelessly and nonchalantly when performing exercises.

as long as the young person showed an understading and a genuine interest in weight training, then i see no problem with startin young.

but, generally speaking, an individual is not ready MENTALLY until 15 ir older. meaning: they are not ready for the discipline and more than likely won't have the attention span to perform exercises correctly.

so, in my opinion, you seem serious, since you took the time to ask the question, so go for it.

just take the time to ask questions/read/research to make sure you are doing everything correctly.

Testosterone booster can stunt your height?

I am 18 years old (which is the minimum age to take this testosterone supplement). My doctor had told me at 18, my growth plates are still open, so I still have the potential to grow a couple inches. I want to take this testosterone supplement, because I want to increase muscle ( I have been working out for a year now). I have been told that increased testosterone can stunt your growth, causing your growth plates to close quicker, is this true?

Do barbell squats stunt growth?

Im 16 years old and 5 feet 7 inches tall, i go to the gym often but i only work on my upper body but no my legs because people say that doing squats stunts height and thats the last thing i need cuz i really wanna become like 6 feet tall so will doing barbell squats at my age stunt/damage my height or is it safe to do?
