Mercedes Benz 1986 420 sel brakes have no power, the pedal goes to the floor car doesn't stop!?

My 420 sel is having a problem. the car wont stop, the brakes wont work. However the brakes are fine and the brake fluid is full. I was thinking it could be the master cylinder but i just wanted to make sure. I wasn't sure if there's a fuse for the srs brake system, but when i start the car the srs light goes on then after a few minutes shuts off. When i brake i dont feel any pumping, the pedal just hits the ground. Previous to this the pedal would go down half way before stopping somtimes and sometimes would be fine. But now it never works. And theres no air in the lines because i tired bleeding the air out!

this is an bosch, k-jet system, system pressure is 72 psi, control pressure is 22 psi at 40 degrees F and approx 56 psi at operating temp.
note there is a thermo time switch that operates the cold start injector for approx 10 seconds on initial first start of day \i strongly suspect your thermo time switch by your complaint but always check fuel pressures first.
NOTES:
1. this engine in north american trim uses a fuel cooler that is installed on the "cold" low -pressure piping of the A/C system. if the a/c is inoperative a test of this system is imparitive,as raw fuel entering here could cause a fatel fire inside the passenger cabin in the event of a crash. [3 fuel coolers have failed in the last 27 years,on cars that i regularly service] so this is rare but not totally unheard of.
2. instead of a warm up regulator your car may be equipped with an "electro hydraulic unit, these rarely fail.
3. A NOTE ON FUEL/FIRE SAFETY. all fuel pressure tests should be preformed outside of any building
and a large A.B.C. rated extinguisher kept at ready hand.

Make a mercedes 420sel faster?

If you can make the engine work more efficiently, it will make it faster. Or you can always go for forced induction ( turbo or super-charger ). It won't be cheap but it will be one very fast Benz.

560 or 420 SEL MERCEDES?

"Better" is subjective. There is no right nor wrong answer to that question.

The 560SEL has the larger and more powerful engine compared to the 420SEL but both are V8 powered and the 420SEL can certainly hold its own.

The 560SEL was the flagship sedan between the 1986 and 1991 model years so it had a few features not shared with the other S-Class sedans of that era, including the 420SEL. Most notable of that was the rear hydropneumatic, self-levelling suspension (the 420SEL has standard coil and shock suspension). The hydropneumatic suspension is certainly very nice when it works properly but it is complex and can be costly to fix when it breaks.

It sounds as though you might need to repair/replace the monovalve. Take a look at the first link below for symptoms and repair instructions. The W126 did not have cabin air filters.

Edit: Thanks Bandit-05, you are probably correct. I would go with a bad climate control unit. I am still trying to learn about MBz all the time but you seem to be the absolute guru when it comes to MBz. I always look forward towards your answer and advice.

The trick to the fuel door is that the vehicle has to be unlocked. The central locking feature also locks the fuel door.

With the vehicle unlocked, press in on the front/forward part of the fuel door. The back portion of the door will pop open and you can now open it fully.

If the fuel door is not unlocking with the central locking, there is an emergency release behind the 1/4 panel, inside the trunk. Pull back the trim panel to access that release. Refer to the owner's manual for a diagram of what it looks like.

While the other poster may mean well. The is incorrect. The fuel and air is control by the lambada control unit. General when they run rough at idle, and you have ruled out, vacuum leaks, plugs and plug wires, cap and rotor. If you look at the Economy gauge on the dash. its it all the way to the Left when it at idle? Also,it highly recommend to use the bosh super pugs. Yeah the el cheapo that it call for. It wont run right on the other plugs. If its tweeked at idle that a good sign that you have a vacuum leak. 99% if the time with the age of the car the intake donuts are bad. And itll run like crap at idle but drive and shift just fine. These cars have very, very complex mechanical fuel system. So tweaking a screw here and there is not a good idea. And to answer your question not the screw in the center is not the adjustment this car uses what called a fuel distributor. it a 3,000.00 part.
