Is A Guitar Kit Good For A Beginner Is It Worth The Money Or Should I Purchase Equipment

Is a $60 electric guitar from Wal-Mart a good buy/beginner guitar?

I would be suspicious of a $60 guitar from any source. Buying it at a store where there is no qualified help to discuss the purchase is not advised.Do yourself a favour. Go to a reliable music store. Talk to a sales person and explain what type of music you want to create, and what your budget is. The salesperson will show you several choices in response to your budget and interests. The cost will probably be more than the WalMart guitar, but the recommended instrument has a far better chance of serving you well.Hundreds of people who give up on the guitar because the instrument is of poor quality and a challenge to play. Learning an instrument is difficult enough without having an instrument that fights back.Go where there is knowledgeable help and good quality instruments to choose from. Start a relationship with the store. Over the years, you’ll be back for strings, guitar stands, amplifiers and perhaps even lessons. You may as well cultivate a friend in the business.

Is it expensive to purchase drumming or drum equipment?

The short answer is yes, it's expensive. But in reality it's a bit more complicated. If you want to fully enjoy the amazing experience of being a drummer; gigging, recording, practicing with great sound etc. Then you will have to get yourself some decent equipment. So then yes, it will be expensive.I own equipment worth about 70 000 Swedish crowns (1 sek ≈ $8 - $9. Check any currency calculator for exact numbers). Some I've purchased myself, some I have received as gifts, nonetheless, it's a LOT of money. But it's money well spent since it enables me to bring my playing to a new level, it makes recordings sound amazing and most importantly I enjoy myself more behind the kit. With a great kit you feel more proud. Ofcourse you'll be proud of that first Pearl Export (most bought starter kit in history) because it's the first. But when you discover the big world of music, and you start getting more expensive stuff, you will feel proud with every stroke on that cymbal or the snare you saved to for so long.So yes it's expensive to be an intermediate/professional drummer, but it is worth EVERY single penny spent.

As an absolute beginner, what should I know before purchasing my first set of drums?

The first thing, what are the odds that you will continue playing?Drums, like all instruments, have a habit of winding up in the corner of a room, and not being played. This question might be hard to answer, but you can consider how you’ve stuck with other activities over time, whether you tend to give up or get bored quickly and move on to something else.Secondly used drums, particularly entry level drums, are hard to sell. The market is saturated with them. Same goes with low priced cymbals, stands, etc etc.Drums are loud. I know this should be obvious. But, depending on your living situation, it could make practicing difficult, which goes back to my first question. If you cannot practice as often or for as long as you want, it will have a negative impact on your growth and could lead to giving up.Drums are fun. But they are a musical instrument and require discipline (if you want to sound good and get invited to play with others). You should really consider a teacher in the beginning, and learn to read drum notation. Once you learn the basics and can read music, you can work out of books on your own. Of course videos online will help too, but getting past the basics will help you understand the concepts in the videos. As I have shared with others in similar situation - here is my rule of thumb for spending money on drums…Cymbals - spend most of your money on cymbals (not quantity, think quality)Snare drum - buy a good 5.5″ x 14″ snare drum (recommend the pearl masters maple snare)Drums - especially focus on the sound of the kick - it should be full and round with a good punch. You will hit the hi hat, snare, and kick the most (in that order), so consider your investment in those terms. Most decent drums can be tuned to sound good, even great if someone is good at tuning and head selection.A great place to start is outfit each drum with a 2-ply head (remo ambassador, or Evans G2) on both the batter and resonant side. Tune both heads to the same pitch. Get a TuneBot to help - they work great. There are a lot of drummers who don’t really know how to tune drums. Cold hard fact.Bob Gatzen has a great video. If you can learn and master 25% of what he talks about, you should be good at tuning in a short time.Best of luck and have fun!!

Guitar (electric) and gear for beginner - advices?

Depending on what style music you play, you can find a used Fender strat cheap enough, or an Epiphone Les Paul, or Ibanez RG series guitar. Strats are great for classic rock, blues, alternative and rock. Les Paul's will have a thicker, beefier and darker tone and Ibanez RG series guitars are going to be great for hard rock and metal. It all depends on the pickups you have, but it's a good reference to start from.

For an amp, look into Blackstar amps. The HT-5r combo would be a great starter amp that you could keep forever. They have great distortion, good cleans and pretty good reverb. Not much else in terms of other effects, but you don't need to mess with effects until later on, and all the "modeling/hybrid" amps usually have terrible effects or the amp as a whole, sound bad.

Blackstar is a newer company, founded by 2 guys from Marshall amps. They broke off and started their own company making good quality, yet affordable tube amps.

As far as the amp and guitar go, you only need a good quality instrument cable (a.k.a. lead), guitar picks and maybe an extra set of strings.

How much will a beginners electirc guitar kit cost on Black Friday at Guitar Center?

Guitar Center will try to see you buy $400 worth of gear.

You'd be better off if you visit http://www.musiciansfriend.com where you can find everything you want to buy, including starter kits for a whole lot less. My first guitar and amp came from there back in 1995 (seperately I bought a JOHNSON electric guitar, 10 watt amp, a tuner and pack of picks for under $200).

Remember one thing when buying a starter kit, no matter where you buy it - only buy a 10 watt amp and get a guitar that's not a name brand (Fender, Gibson, etc.) - in case your polyanna doesn't want to play guitar in 3 years, you won't be out a ton of cash for an underappreciated gift.

Whats a good starter bass guitar?

Okay I plan to pick up and mainly teach myself how to play bass and I was wondering whats a good quality bass guitar that i can buy without spending a ton of money seeing how I am only 14 so I have no job. I have to rely on friends and family to get gear so keep that in mind when you recommend something but this has always one of the things I wanted to do so I plan to be playing it a good amount.

What would you recommend to buy as a beginner piano tuner? (equipment)

There are many tuning kits available on Amazon (for example) that include various tools depending on the package you select. My simple kit includes a tuning hammer, a felt strip to mute every other string, assorted rubber dampers, and an A-440 tuning fork. You can also get a digital tuner if you don't have the ears for tuning a piano, but that will not result in a proper 'tempered' tuning.I strongly recommend that you get some training before you even touch the insides of a piano. You can learn best from a seasoned piano tuner who is willing to give you some lessons. But that's just the basics of a tuning. Caring for a piano involves diverse skills and knowledge. There will be all sorts of little mechanical things that can break. The very most important quality you must have to tune a piano is a good ear. Normally when you tune an instrument (such as a guitar) you tune the pitches until you hear no 'beats' in the sound. A piano must have tempered tuning. That means you must get one octave of middle notes tuned so that there a proper number of beats in the overtones. You start out tuning fourths and fifths, for example. One grizzled old tuner I used once told the timing of the beats equals the timing of saying, "From Cincinnati to St. Louis." You then tune all the octaves of the middle notes until they have no beats. You will find piano tuners have eccentricities, and they vary.I have a pretty good ear for pitch but I have not mastered tempering. So I just stick with tuning the unison notes until they have no beats. That will work for a while, but eventually (every six months to a year) I have to have a professional tuner come and fix it properly. You can experiment on your own piano if you want but unless you have proper training, chances are you will end up hiring a pro to undo your mistakes.(Might be better to go with Godfrey McDonnell. Why are guitars on amazon so cheap? guitar experts please help!?

Okay i've been playing guitar for about 2 months now and I'm actually okay at it. i learn fast. So i've been looking on amazon for a guitar and i found one that i really like:

http://www.amazon.com/Fender-Starcaster-Sunburst-Electric-Stratocaster/dp/B0049Q3GPC/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1349916627&sr=1-2&keywords=fender+stratocaster

I really want it and I'm saving up for it but the price seems really low. I've heard that guitars cost over $1,000 new. Why is this one so cheap? i don't want to be ripped off because it'll take me at least 5 months to save up for it. (I'm only 13 and my parents don't buy things for me. i buy things myself.) so any way i want to know if this will actually work. A lot of the reviews are mostly 5 stars but it says that it's only good for beginners. And i want this thing to last, not just the time that I'm a beginner. So guitar experts please help me. If this isn't a good guitar then are there any good ones on amazon for under $200? Should i just buy a used one that works instead of this? Please help me out guys. 10 points best answer!
