Is A Used 2006 Volkswagen Jetta A Good Buy

Is the Volkswagen Jetta a good car to buy used? Why or why not?

If you buy a used Jetta, head my warning.Buy with low miles, preferably below 20k miles.Make sure your warranty covers tires, AC, tire pressure monitor and breaks for the first couple of years. (New addition- after 150,000 miles my car has an issue with struts and shock absorbers. The cost ranges between $1,040 and $1,750 to replace. Just something to look into having under warranty when negotiating) Those are the main problems I experienced. I was fortunate with the engine. Take good care of it and it should last you a good while. The engine should be fine with low mileage, but you don't know if the car was abused by the previous owner. Make sure the car is inspected thoroughly before buying.Buying or leasing new may cost more in the short term. When buying used, always know every detail of the insides of the car before you buyI have spent several thousands of dollars on my Jetta in the last year in maintenance and service but I also drive a lot. The main thing is to get your dealer to give you a good warranty that covers the majority of possible issues with the car over the first few years and you will be fine.

2005 Volkswagen Jetta, good car or not?

I bought my wife a 2005 Jetta with the 2.5 engine.
The Jetta has proven to be super-reliable. We use it as a daily commute car . But where the Jetta really shines is when its vacation time! With the roof rack ,we load up our bikes and kayaks and head for the mountains or the beach. And there is plenty of room to take a friend or two....
We get abt. 32 MPG and have plenty of power . The Jetta features disc brakes front and rear, something competitors dont offer. The suspension [indeed the entire car] was designed in Germany for the Autobahn (they still have unlimited speeds there). It must pass rigorous safety standards.
We have driven the Silver Jetta for 75,000 reliable miles. It has never let us down.
The only "Con" we can think of is that we wish it only had 30k on it !!
We think the Jetta would make a fantastic car for you.

Is it good to buy a Volkswagen secondhand?

Back in 2011 I was considering an older VW for my daughter. I asked a friend who runs the reliability website TrueDelta -- Real Car Owners Driving Real Car Information. His response was the best one I’ve heard:“An older VW is a great car for someone who likes to work on their car because they will have plenty of opportunities.”I bought my daughter a 1998 Escort and it served us well for 6 years. Only cost me less than 12 cents per mile (gas, oil, maintenance and repairs). VWs may have improved since (True Delta does seem to indicate some models have), but the general consensus still seems to be to stay away.

Used 2008 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition with 38,000 miles. Good idea or a bad idea?

Reliability is not an issue.
Our 2005 Jetta has 80,000 super-durable miles on it.
My son's 2008 Rabbit [virtually same as Jetta, except its a hatchback] continues to be a champ.
I drive a 2006 VW GTI turbo that has given me 50,000 enjoyable, like a rock solidity.
The only $$ we have spent on these cars is oil/filter changes!
We bought them at our local dealership and they still treat us like kings even after the sale.
No hearsay, just the facts.....

Would you rather get a Volkswagen Jetta or a Toyota Corolla? Which requires less maintenance?

It depends on your long term plans. The Jetta will likely drive / handle better, but it’s resale value will plummet after around 3 years and it will require more maintenance as it gets older. The Toyota will hold it’s value well and be cheaper to maintain. Go drive both, see which one you like. If you’re doing a 2–3 year lease instead of a purchase, it doesn’t matter too much since repairs and resale don’t come into the equation. When doing a lease deal base your decision entirely on how much you like the car and the lease costs. (how much down, how much a month etc).

Buying a used Jetta, pro's con's?

Assuming you are talking in the USA, I never understand why people buy used Jetta's when they can get a used Honda Accord or Honda Civic for close to the came price.

The Accord and the Civic are twice as reliable as a Jetta and they cost less to fix/maintain.

I wouldn't touch any Jetta that was built before 2006. I know too many people that have bought VW's that absolutely hate them with a passion.
In addition, the TDI engine aside, VW is consistently in the bottom half of all vehicle manufacturers in overall reliability.

You may also want to post this question in the 'maintenance and repairs' section for more objective opinions.
People who answer questions in the specific manufacturer sections have the tendency to be biased toward that brand.

Should I buy a pre-owned 2006 Volkswagen Touareg?

The short answer is no. The long answer is only if a few conditions are met. It should be in good condition, with everything in working order. It should have verifiable maintenance records. It should come with a warranty that at a bare minimum covers all the mechanical and electrical systems. If it doesn’t meet all three, run.

Should I buy a Toyota Corolla or a Volkswagen Golf?

First, thank you for telling us the market in which you are shopping; this gives a specific market to know what you're shopping for. I'm in the USLight steering: Corolla. Handling: Golf. Everyone else is dead on as far as reccomending the Corolla. Compared to the Corolla, the Golf will have heavier steering. Compared to the Golf, the Corolla won't handle as well. In this price range, those two things tend to be mutually exclusive. In terms of which will be more reliable and less costly to own, it's the Corolla all away. I don't know the price of fuel in Austraila, but the Corolla will go farther on a litre of petrol than the Golf. The Golf will definitely be more enjoyable to drive, but you'll pay for that in terms of maintenance. Both of these cars are either no longer under warranty or have very little warranty time left. The Corolla will be the cheapest to own, and there are TRD tuners that can juice up the handling with larger wheels and stiffer springs. The Golf will be a blast, but expect to pay and pay for every kilometer.IFor some perspective in the amount of monetary difference, the Golf ranked the best in class for under $35,000 in 2014. Yes, Thirty-Five thousond AU$. This makes a decent Golf very likely out of your budget. Still a great car.
