Is An Epitaph Necessarily From Another Person

Is it acceptable for a non-black person to sing along to a rap that says the n word?

Singing along to music in public should be unacceptable outside of a karaoke party, period.Singing along and parroting a defamatory word while doing so? Now not only do we have to listen to you vocally butchering a song, we get to listen to you talk trash at the same time!Honestly, it depends on your audience (I think you can guess how receptive of an audience I would be). My real advice is that if you do it, and people start avoiding you or giving you pushback, don’t blame them. You made a choice, and you need to own up to your actions instead of blaming ‘PC culture’. This isn’t some obscure, newfangled faux pas invented by overly sensitive people - we’re talking about a racial epitaph with a long and sordid history. So, could you find people who would be accepting of you doing this? Sure. Just don’t count on it, and don’t get all huffy when people start thinking that you’re an asshole. And for the love of God, don’t do it around me.EDIT: Even if you’re black, there are plenty of people who will give you a verbal beat-down for using the word. Use of the word in any situation is pretty divisive in the black community. So, it’s not necessarily your skin color that limits you. It should be your sense of decency.

Where can I find a word for word translation of Seikilos' Epitaph?

Here’s a not very elegant rendering, re-ordered into English word orderAs long as (Ὅσον) you live (ζῇς), shine (φαίνου)Grieve ( λυποῦ ) ye (σὺ) not (μηδὲν) utterly (ὅλως), for (πρὸς) life (τὸ ζῆν) is ( ἐστὶ) brief (ὀλίγον)Time ( ὁ χρόνος) demands (ἀπαιτεῖ) an end (τὸ τέλος).The proper order is here (no accents, though)If you cut and past the Greek above into a search bar, you can follow the links to Perseus — click on the ‘LSJ” link where there is one and the ‘Middle Liddell” if there is not — you should get some idea of the range of meanings. The trickiest bit is probably φαίνου, which literally means ‘be visible’, ‘appear’, or ‘shine’ but can also be used for ‘make obvious’, or ‘make manifest’. τέλος means ‘end’ in the sense of completion but also in the sense of ‘culmination’ or ‘fulfillment’, so it’s not necessarily just a carpe diem sentiment.Luckily the grammar and tenses are not complex here; ζῇς is a regular second-person verb for ‘to live’, φαίνου and λυποῦ are imperatives, ἐστὶ is just ‘is’ and ἀπαιτεῖ is third person with ὁ χρόνος, Time, as the subject.Apologies for the way the text here is offsetting the accents creating the appearance of spaces, like πρὸς is one word with 4 characters — I know how to do that on a mac but not on windows. Perhaps Nick Nicholas will fix my accents, as is his wont.

Do teacher's favourites and toppers always end up being successful in life?

No, not really. The person who can prove his or her mettle while doing a specific job and doing it well that this person gets noticed by the correct people...arent necessarily teachers pet. The teachers fav. can be a favourite till he or she passes school and high school, college....but when it comes to job and holding on to a job and being a successful person, its anybodies game!...generally people who score really good marks dont end up doing anything significant in life...many dont pass a CTET exam or NET/SET, GATE, TOEFL, UPSC EXAM!!...the person who isnt a teachers fav. is always the person who shines the most in life. The onus is on the person, not the teacher, to prove himself or herself successful in life. So don't worry .just be positive and move ahead in life!...never say never....forget 99 percent holders in isc or cbse or state board holders. Remember who YOU  are and what YOU can do or are capable of doing!...let the other students have their 15 minutes of glory!!..you are in for the long haul, you are here to win the WAR not ALL the battles. There is a very very funny but EXTREMELY important dialogue about life and what a person must do to be the best in what he or she wants to do. This one liner says it all. And its from one my favourite movies which also has one of my favourite actors. "Agar tumhey ghaas katney wala banna hai, toe sabsey accha ghaas katney wala banoe"All the best!

What did the the person who gave the following quote say "stings"?

A man born in the 1800s who is credited with many witty sayings and died fifty years ago (1956) once said, "We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart."

He had another quote. He said one thing is easy to bear but something else stings. What did he say stings?

Why am I so irritable all of a sudden?

Hello, Kristina. - - - Just some thoughts.
Your unconscious "mind" (brain) is quite busy with some memories that are tightly associated with anger and fear. - And, you DID mention "rape." I believe the two match up pretty good (and reasonably).
My viewpoint is that your "anger" was entirely justified in those circumstances.
If the rapist was "caught" and punished, in some way, you may have "closure" (of some kind) in that regard. - If not, there could be some lingering resentment and anger about the whole thing.
(I don't have those answers.)
The point is, you need closure on that event. - It's over and done with (in whatever way).
You "should not" allow it to infect the rest of your life and relations.
Part 2: - Irritability is a "short cut" to more intense emotions, and, perhaps, "Attention."
It's relatively "easy" to become irritated. - It takes little effort.
That's why i call it a short cut. A very bad habit to get into.
There are innumerable "other" ways to accomplish emotional intensity,
but, they are not, necessarily, as "easy" and quick.
For example, physical "sports" and activities lend themselves very nicely to
increased emotional intensity. - You just "do it" with greater attention and physical
exertion and training, etc.
Part 3: It is "possible" that, unconsciously, you are using your rape history to justify your continued irritability. - (Not a good idea.) - Back to Part 2, there are much better ways to accomplish increased emotional intensity (and attention). -
Part 4: Your irritability is most likely NOT attractive to your social companions. - I believe you can understand that. -
Ask yourself: "Isn't there a better way to accomplish excitement and emotional intensity than simply being irritable?"
When you "die," do you just want people to remember you as, "Oh, you mean the one who was irritable all of the time." -
Not a desirable epitaph to my mind.

Best to you. - And, good luck.

What are some of the saddest prog rock songs?

Any reference to progressive rock would be incomplete without the mention of Porcupine Tree. A band dormant for many years (sadly with little hope of revival) since the lead vocalist/guitarist Steven Wilson decided to pursue his solo career, Porcupine Tree has nonetheless produced some prog rock gems over the year with majority of their fame coming in the last decade. The sort of variety that they have covered also means that there have been a lot of 'sad' songs composed by them. Steven Wilson is really into the idea of composing an album with a specific theme in mind and therefore if you listen really closely, the songs of the same album have a similar feel to them. This fact is more pronounced in Steven's solo work with his album 'The Raven that refused to Sing' based upon grief and mourning. Therefore, while looking for a sad prog rock song this album definitely needs to be checked out. If you don't want to explore the album from cover to cover just focus on Drive home, The raven that refused to sing, and The watchmaker. Apart form that, Mellotron Scratch from Deadwing (2005) by Porcupine Tree is another song that can be categorized as sad (and remains one of my personal favorite).

My son in the air force and he made a joke that someone took as racist. Can he be dishonorably discharged ?

Sorry to say but yes he can be given a Dishonorable Discharge. You son if he were to be charged he would be charged with Article 92 of the UCMJ (failure to follow a general order or regulation) the maximum punishment for this charge is a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to lowest enlisted pay grade and confinement for two years (this is judicial IE court martial punishment).
The order or regulation your airman violated was the Air force EO policy (equal opportunity policy).
Now will it get that far? To answer this, you must ask yourself some questions. Is this a habitual thing with your airman? Is this a problem within the command? If it is the command may want to make an example out of someone. What was the comment was it a racist epitaph meant to degrade a single person or was the statement made generally? Was it made to a superior or a subordinate? These are all aggravating circumstances.
Normally when it comes to a first time offenders you would be looking at corrective training (teaching a class on EO, writing a paper things of that nature) an administrative reprimand (basically a butt chewing on paper) or nonjudicial punishment (loss of rank, pay, liberties and time). Also you should understand that the lower in rank you are the lighter the punishment is because the military believes you are more able to rehabilitate after a slip up than someone who has been in for say a decade hope this helps good luck.

I need some information on Douala's. What is the difference between a Douala and a midwife?

Has anyone ever had a douala? What exactly do they do? Are they expensive to have? Do they come to the hospital with you? Can you use Medicaid for Midwives and doualas?
