Is Angry Birds still popular?

Angry birds made it far beyond just game popularity. They made toys that became quite popular of themselves, and they sometimes use angry birds in ads of other products - not long ago I've seen a car ad that used angry birds, and it was one of the major manufacturers. And now they are releasing a full-length 3d movie with angry birds. This all looks not just like some good marketing, but an element of global culture. Like say Batman or Darth Vader.

What is it about Angry Birds that made it so popular?

This is Crush the Castle.It pre-dates Angry Birds by a substantial margin of time and is very similar. Notable differences are that your different shots are interchangeable; you can choose what you’re firing rather than having a static lineup of projectiles to shoot. As such I’ve got a friend who argues that it’s a much better game because it’s more strategic and engaging.Note the muddy colors and UI. It’s also pretty devoid of sound. The trebuchet goes “fwoosh” …. then a long silence …. “dink” “ahhh! …” ….Not actually very exciting or satisfying, to be honest.Now here’s Angry Birds.Typical sounds accompanying this colorful display of wacky-looking characters include a stretchy slingshot being pulled, a projectile going, “ROOHOOHOOOOOO!” when it’s fired, the sound of glass being crashed through, pigs squealing and exploding, and so forth. Lots of poppy sound effects and visuals, ultra-satisfying. You don’t get to pick which projectile you’re shooting, they’re in a set sequence, but that does give the designers a bit more control over the flow of the stage and what the optimum solution is.In short: terrific polish and pizzazz, in addition to a lot of luck. Being on the right platform at the right time has a lot to do with its success.

What is the deal with the eggs in Angry Birds -- why do the birds treasure them / why do pigs want them?

For the Birds, the eggs are their children and the most precious thing on Bird Island. Their culture is built around family and raising their eggs in a safe and nurturing environment. For the Pigs, eggs are a fabled delicacy - yes, they DO want to eat them. There’s some mystery around exactly how the Pigs know about eggs, but it is explained that they have sought them for generations. In the film we see the moment when the two cultures meet and create the epic conflict we all know from the game.

What are the Angry Birds angry about and why are they so angry?

The birds are determined, even angry, because they are a locked into an existential struggle for the future of their species.  Sadly, this will ultimately prove futile.Many people believe that Angry Birds is simply an amusing time-waster game, whereas in fact it is a magnificent historical reconstruction of the tragic end of the dodos.  This occurred because dutch sailors brought pigs to the island of Mauritius, which plundered the dodos' nests and ate their eggs and ultimately drove the birds to extinction.  (It is a misconception that the sailors ate the dodos themselves - they rarely did so as the meat tastes bad.)The clinching evidence for this interpretation is that dodos were flightless birds, so of course they would have needed to use catapults.To give credit where it's due, I had not recognised the documentary nature of this game until it was pointed out to me by my 12 year old son.

fSometimes the terms 2D and 3D might be applied different depending on the context, but generally speaking, a game is 2D if all of the action at any one time takes place within a single plane of space.That's a really generic description though, because you can have games that I think I would still consider 2D, but might have some psuedo 3D element.For example, in the NES game Xevious (xevious - Bing Videos), you fly a combat aircraft from a top down perspective. You fight other aircraft which are always in the same (spacial) plane as you and you only worry about moving around in two dimensions (up, down, left, and right, but never moving closer and farther away from the ground, which would be like into and out of the TV screen). However, at times, there are things that shoot at you from the ground below, and you can drop bombs on them. This is basically a second plane of interaction, but there is no interactivity in the space between these two planes. I think most people would still consider this a 2D game.In a very different example, (max and the curse of brotherhood) is a side-scrolling platformer. The graphics are rendered in 3D. This is very noticeable because of the way the objects in the game move in relation to the viewpoint and also because the camera angle often changes slightly as you move through the game, mostly for style. However, you character is restricted to moving only with a single 2D plane in any one section of the game. I call this a 2D game. Sometimes, people might call this a 3D game. The more precise way to describe it is that the gameplay is 2D, but the graphics are 3D.For a more concrete example, Chess is a 2D game, even though the pieces are 3D, the third dimension has no bearing on the game at all (other than the physical affordance of allowing you to easily pick up and move the pieces around the board). Tic-tac-toe and Connect 4 are likewise 2D games. Jenga is a 3D game. Jacks is a 3D game. Basketball is a 3D game.

Why is Angry Birds so popular in [Southeast] Asia?

Its not just South east asia , Angry birds are famous all around the world and they have become more than just a smartphone game. I live in India and i see loads of angry birds merchandise - Water bottles , Bags , T-Shirts, and even slippers1. Everyone likes angry birds , right from a 5 year old kid to 80 yrs old man.Every Android/iPhone user knows this game and has played it at least once !2. This craze is similar to the "Hello Kitty" and "Pokemon" craze the South East Asians had a few years ago.Hello kitty , Pokemon , Digi-mon and a few other fictional characters were popular in the South-east Asia , probably because the children thought they are "cute" , and equally , a hell lot of merchandise were made for them and some of them are still being sold. Now that these characters have become old , people have moved on to angry birds , probably they see the birds and pigs as loveable characters, and also , since angry birds are a international phenomenon , the producers see a larger market.3. Angry birds in school booksThese kind of questions will probably make the students more curious into what they are studying. Now they know where the Concept of Projectile motion is actually used . Instead of giving a boring question like , "Calculate the distance traveled by cannon ball shot at 30 kmph and 60 degrees after 10 seconds" , a question like this will make the subject more interesting and students will have fun solving them .
