Is Anybody Else Proud That Our Generation Gets Along With Each Other

Why is my generation so immature?

I guess you could say you and me are sort of similar, im a 15 year old freshman in high school and i'm very displeased, everyone thinks i'm a loser and a *** hole for looking at the world with a different and more mature attitude, for the most part my day consists of watching "Americas Future" do some of the stupidest things ever like text all damn day, act like a bunch of retards, and come up with the stupidest slogans since the Jurassic era.

I personally believe that this way of life and thought and the ignorant actions that comes along with it are attributed to th fact that our generation doesn't feel in a ny pressure or feel the urge or need to get its head out of the clouds and become the educated adults we have to be. I think were more caught up in playing Xbox and tweeting and texting and watching Tosh.O

We have to think and act NOW!!! we have to be ready to under take our responsibilities not as students but as young adults, we need to be ready for the future that we will soon be leading and wake up now so that we can adjust to the current times and come up with propper solutions for the future.

The point is that we don't feel any pressure or urgency to get anyhing done or act our propper ages and that if we continue you this train of though we will wake up too late and fail not just our proud country but the people and generations that worked hard for us to be successful.

Personally my mind is totally fed up with this generation, i don't even like the music or style of clothing like i used to in previous years, its dificult for me to even make friends (or aquaintances in my book) and find a propper young lady to call my "girl friend" because all girls want is sex sex sex and don't get me wrong thats great and all but they just don't know when to let up and give the sex business a rest.

What are you most proud of your generation? 14-18 year olds please!!!?

Most proud: open-minded, good with technology, care for environment
Least proud of: we are overly-relient on technology and sometimes lazy

Is anyone else disgusted by Generation Kill HBO has gone beyond intelligence but I congratulate them in?

This has nothing to do with the Marine Corps. As top contributor you should know as well as I do that decent Marines that I was proud to serve with on the Dwight D Eisenhower CVN 69 did not behave that way . But with all due respect to you this show is desecration to the Corp and the United States of America. The networks are not covering the war,gas prices, food prices are sky high and I assure you this is something that would make you throw up and at 9PM you would want your kids watching as a depiction of the USMC. However thanks to HBO and the former Marine and his memoirs are not the "Generation" I assume you or I come from. Honor,Courage, and Commitment..not this. So I only hope service men and women with those values still exist in this new generation where art depicts life. It is more than just some cable show. It's a disgrace to our country and the America I swore to defend against all enemies foriegn and DOMESTIC.

Why is generation y immature? Over machismo of gen Y?

Social and cultural changes - life expectancy rises, higher education became more accessible hence more enrolment. Social norm of Gen X was to start working straight out of high school, today knowledge and grad certificates mean more than physical skills, not necessarily a good thing, as it undermines the value of real world practice, but I'm merely stating the cultural trend.

Gen X's adolescence ends at 18, are expected to marry as soon as early 20s, Gen Y tend to attempt to pursue more individual development and career growth before settling down, generally in the early 30s, an entire decade's difference.

Again, cultural norms due to changes in socio-economic circumstances.

Gen Y is the least mature? Hundreds of thousands of young people flocked to join the army on the breakout of WWI, because they had a romanticised view of war and chivalry, only to be mauled down by machine guns in trenches. "Wanna-be fighters"? The grand-daddies of Al Capone's generations were the real gangsters.

Douchebaggery is commonplace not because of the generation, as if it's a "genetic trait" particular to Gen Y. You've got today's media and pop culture that nourishes these idiotic notions of "what is cool and what's not", influencing children from when they start middle school, as well as today's commercialised culture that glorifies in perfection - anorexic figures for women and oiled muscles for men, that anything less of these perceived perfection are frowned upon.

Don't blame Gen Y, blame the douchebags in Gen X that makes a killing off the profits of commercial culture!

And if you say social media is bad, I'll say it's making Gen Y more aware of global diversity and social problems. Gen X and those before were, and still are, notorious for rampant xenophobia, racism, homophobia, and a tonne of other phobias. I'm proud of this generation as more politically and socially aware, to be more engaged in fighting injustice and you know what? They knew of injustice from social media, and they're increasing awareness through social media.

Technology are culture are always going to evolve, maybe Gen Z will think you and I are conservative old-timers at some point.

No, I KNOW they will think of you and I as conservative old-timers.

Does anyone else wish there was no such thing as race?

Prejudices of all kinds still float around in this world. Group thinking still predominates in most cases. The young tend to want to be with the young, likewise with the older generation. Musicians prefer being with the musically minded, shucks, even the mathematicians prefer their colleagues to share ideas with.

Personally, I see that all the different peoples are gradually blending into other cultures more and more so that the great dividing lines of differences are fading with each passing generation. I'm in Canada and I feel we as a nation are more open and accepting of many cultures. We are not free of prejudices but there is less of passion or hatred. Maybe it's because we are a huge country with plenty of room for everyone.

No country or its people are perfect. We must make do with what we have and improve our opinions with each passing generation.

Just my thoughts.

What phrase replaces 'tall poppy syndrome' and 'the proud nail gets hammered down' when the new generation has never seen a poppy or knows what a proud nail is?

It is interesting but the very technology that makes people less aware of nails and poppies, is also creating a totally new phenomena that makes those phrases irrelevant.  When I was a kid, the only toy that was customizable was probably legos.  you got the legos and you could make different stuff.  There were also tinkertoys and lincoln logs, but my Dad thought Legos were cooler.  Anyway, every other toy, every thing in our house except the major appliances was the same as all the people in in our neighborhood.  Sure they drove different cars, but most of what was in our lives was all the same.  Nowadays, marketers have discovered that they can charge more if they make things customizable in some fashion or another.  They know that toys and other things around the house sell better with some options.  You go to the hardware store or the grocery store, and you can't help but see that there are 10 colors of this or 17 flavors of this.  There are so many flavors of triscuits, that I can't even always find the ones I like because the store only stock 6 at a time.  But the interesting thing is what this has done to our mindsets as consumers.  No longer do we think everyone on the same street is the same, and has all the same things.  now we think of ourselves as more unique and we own things that different from each other more.  Everyone has their own personal style.  Everything comes in several different colors and several different looks.  I sat down to play a video game and spent the first session doing nothing but picking out every detail of my character's looks.  Then it was time for bed.  This has made those same phrases above less prominent because there is less of an expectation to be the same as everyone else.  So the rule about the nail that sticks up getting whacked just isn't as true anymore.  I think they'll be replaced with things like "to each his own" or something similar.

Why are you proud to be white?

Well I am not white, but if I was, I would say this. I am not proud to be white, because even if I was black, hispanic, or asian, it would not make a difference. OR. You can say this. I am proud to be white, because I know that my parents, grandparents, and ancestors, kept our white tradition living on from one generation to the next.
