How do I fix my slow Comcast Internet speed?

Without knowing more details, I can only speculate and guess.  It could be many things.Gather facts.  What are your exact speeds?  What is your subscription package?  Do you have also packet loss problems?  (Is packet loss the cause of your speed issues, or no.)Rule out equipment... plug a known good computer into the modem directly... remove extra routers, switches, definitely Wifi for this test, etc.  Test a single device to establish a baseline.  Do you have multiple devices/computers?  Do they all have the same issue?  Try different devices, if you can.  Run "SpeedTest" applications on mobile devices, laptops, PC/desktops, etc.  Ideally start with only wired devices; Wifi is a common problem ... make sure the problems exist aside from Wifi.  Meaning, you may be having network/Internet issues, but the issue is not necessarily Comcast's fault or within their ability to resolve.Back to gathering facts... record data.  Are the speed issues related to time of day? Intermittent or consistent?  Record your speed test data.  Do ping tests, record the results.  Provide all of this hard data to Comcast, as applicable/needed.Call Comcast.  Ask them about your signal level, your modem performance (SNR, signal to noise ratio, Rx and Tx signal levels,  uptime/stability, DOCSIS timeouts).Good luck.Have your problems always existed (with your current installation/configuration)?  Or just started?When speaking with anyone... be as polite and factual (rational) as you can.  Emotions do not help resolve technical problems.

How does what comcast is telling me about internet speeds make any sense?

I have a really old Lynksis wireless router that is capable of 54 or 56mbs...my service provider tells me that I'm gettin 6mb upload and 1mb download (or vice versa)...and the highest internet they offer is 16mb....so HOW can my crappy old router be faster than comcast (who is supposed to be one of the fastest) be capable of so much more? The REASON for my question is because someone told me that "n" wifi is faster than "b" and "g" so I asked comcast what speed I was getting because if it was over the 54 or 56 that I'm capable of, I was considering dropping down to a smaller one..since I haven't been receiving the benefit of it all this time. I guess not answering my question and telling me anything that can help me with my goal would be best...my goal is to save money by switching to directv instead of comcast but I need an internet solution. THANKS!

Why is my comcast "high-speed" internet so slow?

Wireless is ALWAYS slower than a direct connection to your home router. The farther away you get, the worse it will be.
EDIT: And NO its is NOT a problem with your ISP if your connection is good while wired! Some people need to stick to fixing sandwiches and NOT answer questions when they DONT know what they are talking about.
EDIT: No matter how fast your wireless connection on an n router, you are most likely connecting at g speeds unless your wireless devices are n also. In ANY event, latency in a wireless home network is terrible! It makes NO difference what your router speed is with a high latency network! If the router and PC has to spend all that time resending and re-receiving packets that werent received, you WILL get slower internet speeds. Even in a good running wireless n home network with pcs in close proximity, you WILL lose on average, 10 percent of your internet speed.

What should I do if my Comcast Internet speed is slow?

Verify speed via computer ethernet connection to router. Use comcast speed test and record info XFINITY Speed Test. Perform this at various times of day/eve if possible to see if results vary or are consistent. Do not verify speed via wifi speed test only.Power-cycle your router. Unplug power. Wait at least one minutePerform speed test again (see point 1)If improved to speed you are paying for then you are good. Why is my internet really slow at specific times?

I’ve spent several days scratching my head on a problem like that.In my friend’s case, it turned out the aerial phone/internet cables were using lamp posts and passed really close to the lamps. When the city turned on its lights.. the inernet connection speed went down to a crawl!Based on this I’d suggest some kind of electrical interference. Somethingturns on and creates a strong electromagnetic field that disrupts your internet connection.The first thing I’d do in your case is examine closely the times. Is it “around 10pm” or exactly 10pm? Do you have anything that turns on at 10pm? When does the problem go away? Does it happen every day, some days, weekdays?What is the route your phone/internet cables take from the outside of your house to your PC? The appliances/sources of interference have to be really near them to cause that big a problem.If you can’t pinpoint the problem I’d suggest calling a professional electrician with some knowledge of computer networks or reporting the problem to you internet service provider and ask them if they could send someone at/near that time. Yes, 10pm is very late so you can suggest that you pay something extra.

Why is it that my internet is really fast late at night? Is there anything I can do to make it also fast during daytime/all the time (my ISP is Comcast, which I believe is known to throttle bandwidth)?

Most likely your ISP has a substation or device with X amount of bandwidth that all of it’s customers in the area share. During prime daytime hours, more people are online thus dividing up the available bandwidth. During late night hours, less people are online and more bandwidth is available.Call your ISP and complain each and every time the connection is slow. Continue to do this until one of the following criteria are met:1> The ISP increases the amount of bandwidth and the problem goes away.2> The ISP identifies a bottleneck at the substation that makes the problem go away.3> You reach the end of your patience and switch ISP’s.Note: Expect items 1 and 2 to take many complaints and each complaint will require you to wade through first level support many times where they waste your time having you reboot your equipment repeatedly for no reason other than it is in the script they were provided to go through in response to reported problem. You should also expect your problem to be escalated at least once without success before getting through to someone who can actually pull the trigger to get someone to look at the local equipment who has the knowledge to identify the problem and the authority to resolve it.At no point do I suggest you attempt holding your breath during this process as passing out and hitting your head on the end of your coffee table is potentially dangerous and certainly will result in a painful boo-boo.Good luck. AT&T internet speed very slow?

I have AT&T fast speed extreme 6.0 and have no problems now, that I told them what was wrong with mine. My download speed is 5.82 Mbps 24/7 I have no
slow down during the peak hours. Now Comcast in my area gets slow as a snail during the peak hours. I can't
complain Comcast don't hardly get to me. So AT&T is my one and only choice. I live in the rural country in the sticks. I have had AT&T for 11 years and it was down one time for about an hour. Due to a construction company digging into the main line.

Why is my ATT Internet Speed Really Slow?

So i pay $35 and i believe that i am supposed to receive 1.5mbps internet speed, when i try speedtest.net it shows my speed around .7 - .9 mbps. i Have ATT internet. When i called customer support it was an Indian guy talking to me ( i believe he was in India) and he took me to the ATT website and their speed meter showed my speed at 3MBPS (This is not true because i could literally feel my internet speed was not that fast) and right after i tried speedtest.net again it showed .7mbps.

About a month ago my speed was fine, i was getting the promised 1.5 mbps and youtube videos and movies from other websites were loading just fine, but in the last two weeks my internet has been really bad! Last week it got down to .4mbps and ping at 200ms+

I have not changed or moved around anything at my house, i have resetted my router countless times.

Does anyone have any solutions to this problem because ATT customer support is absolutely horrible and i bet if i had them send over a guy they would charge like $100 even though its their fault.

At&t U-Verse internet speeds... slow.?

The speed can vary depending on the time of day due to how many people are using AT&T. It sounds like AT&T shares bandwidth among many other users and they just can't keep the speed up because they need to add more bandwidth.

Videos take up a lot of bandwidth.

So when a lot of other people are online in the evening everything slows down because you are sharing bandwidth.

If you can, then get a cable internet service. It is a lot faster. If you plan on being on the internet a lot this would be a better choice, but more expensive. You have to weigh cost against speed.
