Is anyone else allergic to orthodontic wax?

I've had braces for three weeks and the first two were brutal painful, I used the wax for the first two weeks with no problems but than I started getting sores where I used the wax. I stopped using it and used up a tube of gishy goo the orthodontic assistant gave me and they went away. Anyone else have this problem? What are some alternatives to wax? I don't think they'll supplie me with unlimited gishy goo.

Is anyone else here allergic to flouride?

Wow,
In 15 years of being a dental hygienist I haven't heard of an allergy to fluoride. In my opinion (and from what I have seen in practice) it is probably not the fluoride in the paste but the other components instead. Many toothpastes now have whitening, breath rinse, sensitivity components, etc put in to the formula. My recommendation would be to try plain (yes plain) toothpaste like Crest or Colgate (2nd toothpaste on left column in this link "Cavity Protection" - http://www.crest.com/products/toothpaste... and see how you react. If you try it please let me know, I would love to have you confirm whether or not this was the case....Most people don't often need the extra "stuff" in the paste if you are brushing well 2-3 times a day and flossing since it removes the plaque, if you don't have plaque it can't turn into tartar. Drink dark fluids thru a straw to minimize stain...

Using fluoride is really quite important in preventing new decay. |If you are truly allergic I would recommend chewing gum or using mints with Xylitol in them (like Spry products - also see http://www.xylitolnow.com/ for information) Xylitol has been used for many years in Europe and is effective at reducing decay.

I really hope this helps you!

**********EDIT**********
I appreciate you giving the link to the information about fluoride allergies, honestly I wasn't aware, but now can be more vigilant about screening my patients and be able to discuss it with other professionals. I definately will bring it up to my dermatologist (his nurse who I see) since she never mentioned my perioral dermatitis could be fluoride related. Honestly, I doubt she is aware either! My friend (who is a dental hygienist) has 4 kids with rotten eczema too, so I'll pass it on to her. I would follow the recommendation of using a non fluoridated paste (Tom's of Maine or other) and still look furthur into the use of Xylitol....
Thanks for the education --- Best, Joyce

I have really bad allergies, what else can I do other than taking Claritin?

i have really bad allergies as well. we moved into this house that is accross the street from a cotton field / dirt field. if you know anything about cotton it causes allergies to flare of HORRIBLY. the best way that i found to manage my allergies is using a product called manna-c. it is not just vitamin C tablets, there is WAY more to it than vitamin C. i still have a few flare ups, but i dont stay sick anymore. it has really helped me tremendously! oh and my kids too. if i even start to see a runny nose in them, i open up a capsule and put the contents into their juice. it is safe for them as well. GOOD STUFF. i swear by it as well.

HELP! allergic to ALL lip products?

I wouldn't try Vaseline, if you are having trouble with Chapstick you may have a problem with Petroleum Jelly, which is 30% of chapstick. Try making your own gloss. First, see if you have a problem with Jojoba/olive/castor oil on your lips. Jojoba is my fave, olive is more nourishing, castor is a little drying, but very shiny. If you have no problems, heat the oil in the micro wave with some beeswax/carnauba/cocoa butter/macadamia wax. Any wax really! When the mix is cool, try it on your lips. if its no good, try a different oil or wax till you find a combo you are ok with. The more runny you want it, the less wax you put in. Now all you have to do is add colour. You can often buy loose eyeshadows, you can add these, and you could mix in some face powder that you are ok with also. Alternatively, if you can find a good Natural Cosmetic manufacturer, you could get a mineral lipstick made up for you. Best of luck...

There are options that anesthesiologists select from to choose the type of anesthesia they will administer to any given patient. They look at the patient’s chart and talk to the patient before administering any drug, unless of course, the patient is unconscious, for example, from trauma or something. The anesthesiologist will review the patient’s medical record for allergies and past medical history.I can’t recall a patient in all the years I took care of post-op patients who was allergic to an anesthetic, but I’m sure there were some for whom certain drugs were not indicated. Any patient who has a concern about anesthesia prior to surgery should first discuss this with his or her physician or surgeon, and then with the anesthetist or anesthesiologist when he or she visits the patient prior to surgery.

Help! Reaction to Facial Waxing!?

I am fair skined, and had blonde hair on my face, so I used some Sally Hansen's Wax to try and remove it. Well it worked for the most part, except I noticed my skin looked strange, uneven, splotchy afterward, but I just figure it was normal because I'd just ripped hair off my face which was painful!
Now it's been 5 days and it has only gotten worse, it looks like I have a bunch of ingrown hairs all over my face!!! There are little white puss filled bumps everywhere that I waxed, it's so embarassing.

What can I do to help this go down and go away, considering it's been 5 days already and it looks worse everyday! I've continued to wash my face as usual and put on aloe vera gel.
What else can I do??? Do I just have to wait it out?
Has anyone else ever had this happen to them???

Thanks for A2A.Just a glance at the basic composition of Lignocaine with adrenaline LA,Composition of local anaesthetics Local anaesthetic agent:Lignocaine Hydrochloride- 2%(20mg/ml)Reducing agent: Sodium meta-bisulphite-(0.5mg)Preservative:Methylparaben-0.1%(1mg)Diluting agent:Distilled waterFungicide:ThymolIsotonic solution:Sodium chloride or Ringer’s Solution-6mgVasoconstrictor:adrenaline-1:80,000(0.012mg)The LA with adrenaline consists of a reducing agent which is a sulphur associated compound and can potentially trigger an allergic reaction. When in doubt, in such cases I’d suggest to do 2 things:Prefer Plain LA (i.e. LA without adrenaline)To be on a safer side - Get a patch test done for even the plain LA.A Guideline to Local Anestetic Alergy Testinghttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc...Hope this helps.
