Is Ap World History Hard

How hard is AP World History?

I really don't think that this course is good for your FRESHMAN year. Take it easy! Just don't get Ds or Fs! Colleges don't even pay all that much attention to your 9th grade year!

As for the actual class, I dedicated AT LEAST 3 hours for outlining each chapter of my book, 3 hours for notecards each week, and you'll want to add 3 hours of studying per week. Although this was at MY SCHOOL, every school has a different curriculum and way to teach the class.

I notice they do exaggerate on time, but that doesn't mean AT ALL that the class is a breeze. You will be required to take on a heavy course load, dedicate a lot of your time to the course and not procrastinate! Believe me, I would go to sleep at 5 A.M. finishing W.H.A.P. assignments.

The best thing for you to do to get a 5 on the A.P. (which I did) is to ensure that you know what to expect on the exam. The multiple choice really does cover everything from beginning to end. The essays are killer, but if you know how to score a 7 on each of the essays your set. I gave you a link to see the criteria of each essay.

GOOD LUCK!

Is AP World History Hard?

Yes. It's supposed to be hard. To quote Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own, it's the hard that makes it good. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it.

However, in my opinion, no one should be taking AP classes as a sophomore. AP means Advanced Placement- the original idea was to offer college level classes to advanced high school students so that they could get some college credit and get through college faster. That idea seems to have been corrupted. Now schools offer lots of AP classes that should be Honors classes- to make the parents happy, I think, and to make their kids more competitive for college applications. But the brain and your cognitive abilities are still developing in your teens. No sophomore is capable of the kind of analytical processes that are expected of college students. So you aren't really getting a college course- just a lot more facts crammed into the semester.

As for what it's about- it's about World History. You can look at standard World History textbooks on Amazon or in your library. In the U.S., world history usually means a lot about the Romans and Greeks, a little about the Chinese, then European history, and almost nothing about Africa and South America.

Is AP World History hard?

I’m very late to the party here, but it’s better to show up late than to not come at all…AP world history seems very daunting at first; you have to have a sufficient understanding of everything that happened from the Neolithic Revolution to the present day. However, the course glides over events rather than delving into the specifics, thus making it far more manageable. For example, the course doesn’t require you to know the date of Austro-Hungarian unification, you’ll only have to know that it occurred.Nonetheless, the course is difficult. Your teacher will most likely assign homework incessantly, but as long as you do it, you’re fine; for me, the class itself didn’t pose a giant challenge, it was rather the workload that intimidated me.I highly recommend taking this class, as you’ll figure out why things today are happening, and unknowingly gain both writing and studying skills.(Class taken as a freshman and scored a 5 on the AP exam)

How hard is ap world history?

AP world history should mesh well with your other classes. English and social studies courses typically go well together, as with math and science.

AP World History is rather difficult as far as AP courses go, but it really isn't too bad compared to the hardest courses like AP Chemistry. The difficulty is vastly diminished if you're great at memorizing facts, though you should be keeping up with the teacher - the class has a very fast pace for a social studies class. AP US History is probably the only comparable social studies course in terms of pacing and difficulty.

In your schedule, pre-calc is 3/4 review from previous courses, and English should be a breeze if you're able to put the required time in. Honors chem might give you some issues, but if you're a science/math guy, it shouldn't be too bad.

AP World History test... is it hard?

No, you never need to memorize specific dates. I took the class last year, and everything on the exam goes by time period, which should be heavily covered in your class. However, you will need to know order of events in a way; you have to be able to summarize an event, the causes for the event and the repercussions of the event on the world as a whole, leading to other events. In a round-a-bout way, it means you should make an effort to memorize the order of events in history.

Is AP World History hard?

It's weird that you've already taken AP Government and not AP World, since that is normally a prerequisite. I'd say that although you do learn some government stuff in AP World, it's very different. The topic is very broad (hence, "world") while AP government is what it is....US government. AP World was definitely the more interesting class for me, since you learn about different cultures, religions, major events, etc. from a variety of places. In that sense, it might be more difficult for some people since there's a lot more to study for and it's not as narrowed down. Even though I held a B+ most of the year (mainly because of unit tests, but I wasn't really one for studying, so it was what I deserved), I really did enjoy it. I took AP US the following year and it was not nearly as interesting of a class. AP Gov did not hold my interest whatsoever. I got a 4 on the AP world exam despite not being a good history test-taker and walking out of the test thinking I had failed for sure. I got a 2 on the AP Gov exam because I pretty much blanked out on the test. Safe to say, politics are not my thing.........

How is AP World History? Hard, Fun, worth it?

The class is fairly easy. Its mostly just reading and notes. Just make sure you keep up studying throughout the year so that you don't feel the need to cram right before the AP exam. The test is frightening, but if you have stayed (fairly) well prepared throughout the year it is not as bad as you think it will be. The essay section is the most challenging. Make sure you ask your teacher for advice well in advance if they are not already teaching you how to write an AP essay. I got a 5 last year on the exam and I definitely did not study throughout the year, which led to some serious cramming in the weeks before the test. Obviously it worked, but it would have been easier to just study earlier on. I would definitely suggest taking the class.

Why is AP World History so hard?

I've only been in it for a few days and I already feel the pressure of a college course final. If you have it, how are you handling it? Im only a sophmore, is it too soon?

How hard is AP US History?

I am taking it now, and those people are over exaggerating (it's urban dictionary for christ sakes). I have a B in that class, and I don't really try that much. Basically, all you do is read the text book outside of class (usually two chapters a week, about 40 pages), take a quiz on the chapters every week, and then talk about documents or a topic with the class every day. We are allowed to do quiz corrections on each quiz that gives us back some points. And then we have about 5 unit tests throughout the year, which I always get an A on because my teacher pulls the same exact questions from the previous quizzes that we corrected.
After you read all the chapters, you just study for the AP exam and then after the exam, you basically do nothing for a month (or whenever your school lets out). I am not taking the AP exam, but if you want to take it, obviously you will have to study at least 30 minutes every night. It isn't THAT hard, and as long as you do your homework and can retain information, then you should do fine.
I always worry about taking a hard class, but then once I got into it, it really isn't that hard as everybody makes it seem. And taking two AP classes is a breeze. It won't be that much work as long as you do your homework, plus AP environmental science doesn't give you that much homework (at least at my school they don't).

How is the AP world history test?

As Astoria DeTuviel noted, the 2017 test is substantially different than previous editions, so using former tests as a guide is chancy. In general, the intent of the College Board is to bring the test more in line with other tests, and possibly actually make it a bit easier, although whether that will prove to be true is unknown. That said, it is still possible to answer this question in part. The hardest part of the APWH exam is generally the essays, and that will almost certainly be the case with the new exam. The multiple choice section is now based entirely on “stimulus” which can be pictures, charts, quotes, etc. Some students will find this easier than before, some not. But recent editions of the test have contained a lot of stimulus material anyway, to the point where the test largely assesses reading comprehension as much as historical knowledge. So that part will remain consistent. If you are not a strong reader, the APWH test is particularly difficult and will remain so.The short essay questions will mostly be based on stimulus too. This part of the test is completely new and so is the hardest to predict in terms of what the CB expects and how it will be graded. The other essays are designed to be more holistic and less technical. Again, some students who are good writers, but perhaps less well prepped for the exam in the past, will find this beneficial. Students who are poor writers, but could sometimes do okay on the test by knowing the highly technical rubric may suffer. In general, the exam topics for the standard long essay are supposed to be more generalized now, and in that regard this was also a trend on the test in the past few years, so not a lot of difference there. Students should concentrate on broad interrelationships between civilizations over time, especially with regard to trade and diffusion of cultural norms and knowledge. There is still a document based question DBQ, with the change there being essentially to the rubric, which like the long essay is simplified. Whether this actually makes things easier for students again depends on the student. One thing that might be easier is that the requirement to analyze point of view is now optional on the DBQ. Students have a hard time with that, and it is now possible to obtain a maximum score on the DBQ without addressing POV, though you can do so to demonstrate understanding of documents or historical thinking skill.
