Did people really have to be Jews in order to be considered Jews by the Nazi officials?

For being born Jewish. Converting to Christianity would not save you. The Nazis did not much care about religion, they cared about race and they believed the Jews were a race.In Hungary, there was a community of people who had collectively embraced Judaism in the 18th Century. They were all originally Christian Hungarians who had “judaised”, eventually becoming Jews (I’m not sure whether or not they ever converted formally through a beit din, but they considered themselves Jews). The Nazis wanted to leave these people alone but they actually refused and voluntarily (voluntarily!!!!!) accompanied the rest of the Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz.Apart from this group, there was also the case of the Crimean and Lithuanian Karaites. The Karaites are a Jewish sect that rejects the Talmud and they generally don’t get on with mainstream Jews. In the 19th Century, Avraham Firkowycz, a Crimean Karaite, officially claimed that the Karaites were not of Israelite descent but were rather ethnic Turks belonging to the Mosaic religion. This was basically a means of overcoming the discrimination practiced against Jews in the Russian Empire, because in every other Karaite community, the Karaites continued to identify as Jews. When the Nazis invaded Crimea and Lithuania, they bought into the Karaite story about not being Jews and did not persecute them. They even permitted some of them to join the SS, even though they practised a form of Judaism. In brief, the Nazis were driven by racist hatred. A Jew who had converted to Christianity, even someone born Christian whose parents had converted from Judaism, was a Jew to the Nazis, but an “Aryan” convert to Judaism, while probably held in contempt, might be permitted to live.

Is it true that Hitler really did marry his niece who are related to each other by blood?

No. Angela Maria "Geli" Raubal (4 June 1908 – 18 September 1931) was Adolf Hitler's half-niece. He did not marry her. Born in Linz, Austria-Hungary, she was the second child and eldest daughter of Leo Raubal Sr. and Hitler's half-sister, Angela Raubal. She and Elfriede accompanied their mother when she became Hitler's housekeeper in 1925; Raubal was 17 at the time and spent the next six years in close contact with her half-uncle Hitler, who was 19 years her senior. As he rose to power as leader of the Nazi Party, Hitler was domineering and possessive of Raubal, keeping a tight rein on her. When he discovered she was having a relationship with his chauffeur, Emil Maurice, he forced an end to the affair and dismissed Maurice from his service. After that he did not allow her to freely associate with friends, and attempted to have himself or someone he trusted near her at all times, accompanying her on shopping trips, to the movies, and to the opera. He and Raubal argued on 18 September 1931—he refused to allow her to go to Vienna. He departed for a meeting in Nuremberg, but was recalled to Munich the next day: Raubal was dead from a gunshot wound to the lung; she had apparently shot herself in Hitler's Munich apartment with Hitler's Walther pistol. She was 23.Rumours immediately began in the media about physical abuse, a possible sexual relationship, and even murder. The historian Ian Kershaw maintains that "whether actively sexual or not, Hitler's behaviour towards Geli has all the traits of a strong, latent at least, sexual dependence."Hitler later declared that Raubal was the only woman he had ever loved. Her room at the Berghof was kept as she had left it, and he hung portraits of her in his own room there and at the Chancellery in Berlin.(Source: Wikipedia)
