Can I reuse a cover letter from a job application?

I applied for a job about 6 months ago and was offered an interview but by the time they got back to me I had already accepted another job so I declined the interview. Now I’m looking for a job again and they’re hiring (in my field it’s common to have jobs that last around 6 months) can I reuse the cover letter I wrote last time or do I need to write a new one?

When applying for a job, should I write both an application letter and a cover letter?

A cover letter is medium dependant.If you send your application by email, the message itself would be the cover letter (“THIMC, I hereby apply to the xyz position, as specified in your asdfgh add. Yes!  Always customize every cover letter.   An interesting thing I've learned is a T Cover Letter.  It goes like this: **Standard Beginning of a Letter**Name of person AddressDate, etc (whatever you put at the top of your cover letters) Then have a brief introduction, like, "I ran across this open position and I'd like to offer the following comparisons between my qualifications and the requirements of the position".  Of course you'd make yours a bit more warm and personable, but I'm trying to be brief to make a point.   Then have 2 columns.  The first column will be in bold font saying "Job Requirements" and the right-hand column will be in bold font saying "My Qualifications".  And under each bold heading, use bullet points.  The key to making this work is to take the exact verbage from the job description and use as them as bullet points under the "Job Requirements" heading.   Then write a closing to your cover letter.  Simple as that.  The beauty of this type of letter is, #1 It caters to folks that really don't want to read through a letter, and #2 You're making it incredibly simple for anyone who reads that letter to connect the fact your skills are a good match for the position.   Not sure why it's called a T Cover Letter.  I'd call it a 2-column Cover Letter.  Good Luck!

When I'm applying for a job over email, is it better to attach the cover letter as a separate file or incorporate the text of the letter into the body of the email?

In my field, sending the cover letter as a .pdf attachment is standard practice. Often job listings will specify if they prefer a cover letter to be attached or not. If they don't specify, I usually attach a cover letter, then create a boiled-down email length version of two or three paragraphs, and make that the text of the email.I prefer using an attachment because I, and everyone I have worked for, when filling a position prints out all relevant documents and flips through them in paper format, rather than working with them on their computer screens. Maybe in the tech sector people have figured out ways to look at resumes electronically without sea-sickness, but it hasn't filtered down to the rest of us yet.Do always make sure that attachments are in .pdf format for everything, cover letter, resume, writing samples, what-have-you. It's the best way to preserve the formatting, not look sloppy, and be sure that everyone is going to be able to easily open and print your attachments.

Applying For Apple Position Creative , Need Cover Letter Help!?

This reads very much like you are speaking to the a friend instead of a hiring manager. That may work well with Apple and their environment, I'm not sure. I've made some adjustments below you can use or ignore (your choice), but I suggest at least focusing the cover letter on what you offer the company (why they should hire you instead of the other applicants, try to remove some of the "I" statements) and not selling yourself short. Remeber, this is your sales pitch to get the interview.

Dear Mr./Ms.___ (or "hiring manager" if you can't find out their name)

My experience explaining technology on a day to day basis to friends, family, and peers makes me a great candidate for the Creative (include the entire position name if there is more) posting on the Apple Career site. In my experience as a cashier and various temp agency positions, I've gained valuable customer service skills. As a customer, I want to be treated with respect no matter my question, so I carry that into my own dealings with customers. Even the most difficult customer needs patience and understanding.

I believe my character, communication and technical skills and my outgoing, bubbly personality make me a perfect fit for the Apply store. I also believe working for Apple can challenge my creativity because Apple itself inspires me!
