Is Either Miscell Or Miscellane A Word

In pregnancy what factor determines whether the baby will be a boy or a girl?

The baby's sex is determined by its sex chromosome makeup: XX (two X chromosomes) means girl, XY (one X and one Y chromosome) means boy.The mother's eggs are all haploid (meaning: they only have half of the chromosomes) and only have one X chromosome (since mothers are females and are XX). The father's sperm also are all haploid, but about half of them are X and the other half are Y (because fathers are male and are XY).The fertilized zygote will end up being either XX or XY, and therefore will produce either a girl or a boy. It all depends on which specific spermatozoa enters and fertilizes the egg. It is not clear if there are effective ways to increase the probability of Y spermatozoa or X spermatozoa to reach and fertilize an egg.

Are there people that really use "erudite" words in daily conversation?

Not really. Those words are mostly altiloquent [high-flown and pretentious] and would not be used in conversation. Academics may use them in writing, but effective communication does not send people running for the dictionary. One exception might be 'inveigh', which newscasters sometimes use to describe what Ted Cruz was doing when he wasted precious hours inveighing against Obamacare.

If anyone used words like that in a college application essay, it would almost certainly count against them because of their "grandiosity".
