It's more funny that in 2019 there will be only 10 teams after then semi final. No quarter finals and just leave the round of 16 teams will be only 10. See in football in 2018 fifa there are 32 teamssssss. Then round of 16 followed by quarter, semis and the finals. So this a real world cup. Next point cricket is not included in the Olympics and never it will be. But football is played decades after decades since the Olympics were started. If Indian national football teams once comes in top 50 in rankings and India gets a chance to play ,shows a little better performance no dout that the popularity of football will edge past cricket. Now come to Fifa if india plays fifa no need of hosting, if they atleast qualifies for the round of 16, every cricket will be empty in India.The day is not too far. And in fact cricket is only alive due to the madness of India, if India loses interests in cricket means if the things mentioned above occurs then cricket will become a regional sport and once it will decline.

I guess as India is a Cricket crazy country it is loved in every parts of the country.But some states in which football is loved same as much as cricket are GOA,KOLKATA and KERALA.You can see the excitement of the Kerala people when the home team's match ie Kerala Blasters is there, huge and huge number of people are gathered in the Stadium to watch the match at an approx of more than 50000, which is mindbogling.Whole Kerala united when there was FIFA World Cup last year and many people there watched matches which were too late at night.As I am also from Kerala so I pretty much know that how crazy a state is Kerala when it comes to football.
