Is Game Of Thrones A Prequel To The Lord Of The Rings

Which world (Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones) is more similar to the real medieval Europe?

Almost certainly GoT is more like mediaeval Europe - or at least it goes into more political and low-level detail.LotR is a mixture of Bronze Age Celtic and Germanic, early mediaeval Anglo-Saxon, and French late mediaeval influences, plus a hefty dash of 19th-century middle-class English rural life in the shape of the Shire. It also assumes a political order founded on the willing coexistence of numerous sentient species, of which humans are only one.GoT, on the other hand, is overtly founded on Europe during England’s Wars of the Roses. It’s much more humanocentric (if you’re not human, you’re definitely a monster… if you are human, you’re only probably a monster). It also has a much more authentically brutal class system, an influential professional clergy, arranged marriages, ruthless politicking and a general aesthetic of grubbiness. But of course, Tolkien wasn’t trying to create an authentic pseudohistorical society; he was trying, instead, to create a myth cycle to replace what he believed had been lost from British - specifically English - culture.

Should I start reading Game of Thrones from the prequels or the main storyline?

I think either way is fine. Though if I were to choose I’d deifnitelt say the main storyline, then prequels. AWOIAF could be a read potentially even before GoT. GRRM does give plenty, and I mean plenty, of background information and history in the main series.

What do you think about the announced Game of Thrones prequel series focusing on the period of time just after the Age of Heroes, possibly the Long Night?

Subject-wise I think it has the potential to be really interesting and I’m somewhat relieved-surprised that they went with something a little more obscure instead of beating the Targaryen backstory to death, which is what I had been expecting them to do. (Not unlike George himself, she remarked saltily.)However … I also agree that they need to be really careful how they do this. GRRM needs to be involved in order to keep them from jumping the shark with it, but that also means it’s yet another thing to keep him from finishing the core series. And speaking of the core series — depending on how divergent the show really is from the books at this point and how many genuine surprises might be left in the seventh installment that the show will end up leaving out, they risk giving away the goods if they’re too specific about what happened during the Long Night before the seventh (or, gulp, the sixth?) book comes out. It might end up being moot given that by that point the overall story will have been resolved with the show, but I don’t really want the Long Night’s “true story” to only come from an HBO money-grab, ya know?

What do you think will be better, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series or Amazon’s Lord of the Rings prequel series?

Which series is better will depend on several factors. To be clear, I have not watched Game of Thrones and I probably won't watch The Lord of the Rings series either.Tolkien's purpose was to create modern myth for his people. While it contains a lot of drama, much of it is internal. This does not relate to the screen at all. Peter Jackson felt the need to create action and physical drama to keep the audiences attention.I enjoy The Lord of the Rings because of the internal struggles. The idea that we must hope when all hope is lost, that good wins because it is good, that we should take up the adventure before us even though it may not end well for us.I doubt Amazon will produce a work that speaks to those values. It is more likely to be a fantasy creature killing festival.I wouldn't like that at all.

On what book will the Game of Thrones Prequel series be based on?

According to media info released today (which is not much), June 8 2018, the first prequel pilot will be a story set thousands of years prior to the current events of GoT. It will not be directly based on existing books or short stories but will likely explain many of the historical, mythical, and, well, climate plot points of the current stories. IF the pilot is picked up for series don’t expect to see anything before 2020 — there are commitments to fully wrap the existing show before moving into any new series. There’s also the possibility of other proposed prequel stories being made into pilots if things do not go well with the one presently planned.

Is there going to be a prequel for Lord of the Rings?

The Hobbit movies were the prequel. The book The Hobbit is not a prequel as it came before The Lord of the Rings, the book.(A2A)
