Is Going To Embry Riddle A Good Idea

Should i go to Embry-Riddle if I want to be a pilot?

This year, I am starting to look at colleges. I m getting close to the end of high school and have to decide soon. I really want to be an airline pilot. Every since I have stepped foot in a plane, i have been hooked. I know that Embry-Riddle is a 4 year college that also offers a flight school. I have also heard that you are gaurenteed an interview with an airline as soon as you graduate. Is going here a good choice if I would like to become a pilot?
Thanks in advance.

Which is better for an international student, Embry Riddle or Carleton University, Canada?

I am biased because I am an alumni but I must admit that Carleton University is an excellent school with exceptional standards. I loved the instructors at Embry-Riddle and I made my decision because I was an Air Traffic Controller while I was in the Air Force and Embry-Riddle gave me credit for having my FAA Air Traffic Controller License. Plus, there was an “on-base” education center at Langley A.F.B. in Hampton , Virginia that offered courses from a half a dozen colleges. So for me, it was a “no brainer”. Carleton is a great university and is located in Canada as I am sure you are aware so if you don’t live in Canada, it could be a bit of a problem. Even if you take classes on the internet, you still occasionally have to go to campus to talk to a Professor about something. Also, Carleton has tough admission standards. They only accept 20% of their applicants. That’s 1 out of every 5 applicants. Getting close to “ivy-league’ numbers with those stats. Either way, both schools will give you a great education and I know that many big companies like Boeing and McDonnell Douglas Corp and Lockheed Martin all have a solid recruiting relationship with Embry-Riddle. Whatever school you choose, best of luck to you. Its a great career.

Which is the best university among Cranfield, Embry-Riddle and TU Delft for pursuing a master's in astronautics and space engineering?

I am a bit biased. I am an employee of TUD and an alumnus too. Hence in my view TUD is the best. However, Cranfield has a great reputation and is home to great research. I don't think you will really go wrong with this choice.I don't have much idea about embry riddle though.Cheers

FAA New ATP requirements and Embry Riddle?

You seem a bit confused... ERAU and many other colleges/univ. Have programs now that can get you a restricted ATP certificate... read the rules
This is from ALPA.. http://www.alpa.org/portals/alpa/1500Rul...

ATP certificate requires, among many other qualifications, that the pilot be at least 23 years old and have logged at least 1,500 hours of flight time.

The “restricted ATP” will require pilots to be at least 21 years old with

750 flight hours if they are military-trained and qualified,
1,000 flight hours if trained in a four-year college or university-accredited aviation training program leading to a bachelor’s degree,
or 1,250 flight hours if trained in a two-year college aviation program leading to an associate’s degree.

So any college based course will allow a restricted cert in less than 1500 hours. ERAU just spends tons more money advertising their program, which should give you a clue as to how much they may be making on your $$$!

Embry Riddle is too expensive? scholarship help?

I know I have a lot of ERAU questions. It was my number one school but the cost is too much. Florida Institute of Tech is 10,000 cheaper each year, and they offered me 12,500 anually. ERAU only offered 3,000. Is there a way to get ERAU to up there scholarship if I set up an interview and say that you are my number one but I cant attend if the cost is going to be 37,000 each year!!! will they help or are the going to charge too much?

What are your thoughts on the quality of education at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University?

I’m going to give the writer of the question the benefit of the doubt because otherwise I would have to get a roll of duct tape to duct tape my head together so it doesn’t explode.ERAU is considered the Harvard of aviation schools. I have an MBA from ERAU and my core curriculum was no different there than it was in any other business school. The only thing that was different was my electives which, in my opinion, we’re very fun. They included classes such as Human Errors in Air Crashes, Accident Investigation, Airport Management, etc.For those specializing in aerospace engineering, flight training, avionics, airport management, etc. there is no other and no other better school than one can attend. ERAU has produced a litany of fighter pilots, a few astronauts, special ops helicopter pilots--see Somalia, 1992 who happened to be a few my classmates. Our graduates are the leading edge of the aerospace industry. If aeronautics is your passion and you can get in (it is not easy) then I suggest you do everything possible to make that happen.

Why is the dropout rate so high in Embry Riddle Aeronautical University?

Embry-Riddle has traditionally had a high acceptance rate. The incoming Freshmen class has very high numbers, but the high tuition and rigorous programs cause a lot of people to either transfer out or drop out. The biggest thing here is that people underestimate the requirements of the curriculum before they come in because there really isn't any way to know this beforehand. Plus, Embry-Riddle doesn't have your traditional college experience that you'll find in many US colleges. The focus in aviation results in a lot of requirements and excess control on parties, and other activities that you'd call “fun” at that age. Personally, I wasn't very impressed with all the restrictions in the residence halls when I first got there either. In hindsight though, I'm glad they were there because we probably wouldn't have been able to see our courses through till the end without them.
