Is He Drunk Read What He Wrote

Who said "Write Drunk, Edit Sober"?

I just did! What you probably mean is who can be credited for this quote. This is often misattributed to Ernest Hemingway. He never wrote this or practiced this. Usually he would write in the morning and then have a drink.[1]This quote is commonly attributed to the writer Peter De Vries.[2]At the beginning of chapter twenty-one of “Reuben, Reuben” we read this:Sometimes I write drunk and revise sober,” he had said, “and sometimes I write sober and revise drunk. But you have to have both elements in creation — the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or spontaneity and restraint, emotion and discipline.Footnotes[1] “Write Drunk, Edit Sober” Is Bad Advice[2] Write Drunk, Revise Sober

I am much more creative drunk than sober. I write more poetry, usually about death and suffering. I also draw more. Is this good or bad?

I have a friend who is a talented painter. When he was young he hung out with other artists and they frequently got drunk or high and created wondrous things. He felt he was at his best when he was buzzed and got into the habit of sipping and painting through the night, then sleeping all day.It wasn't just that painting became increasingly frustrating and difficult. It was that the rest of his life began to fall apart. His relationships, his friendships, his health. He knew he was hooked but the longest hook of all he kept to himself: the awful certainty that the thing he lived for - painting - he could not do when he was sober. In his mind he wasn't holding on to a habit. He was holding on to his passion. Without it he wasn't sure his life would be worth living. He would have given everything to continue to paint but his willingness to sacrifice his life was interrupted by his wife who packed her things one day and said she could not continue to be a witness to his destruction. He attended an AA meeting the next day, mostly to temporarily placate her. Even today he's not sure if he seriously intended to follow through on quitting drinking. As the fog in his brain receded and he began sleeping through the night he began to feel clearer. He noticed things he had long forgotten, like the fall of his wife's green dress over her long legs and the fresh flowers she always placed near his easel. To his utter surprise he began to feel focused again, inspired again, and his ability to paint returned. He was painting more and better than he had in years.Habits lie. They tell you that what you hold dear you have thanks to them and their voice sounds so much like your own it can take years for you to tell the difference.

Would you rather read a book by a drunk Jack Kerouac or a drunk Ernest Hemingway? How much of an effect did alcohol have on both writers?

Overall, I prefer Hemingway as a writer, but I found On the Road intoxicating when I was young.Alcohol tends to knock out brain cells, so both men probably were better writers when younger.Kerouac shows up in the documentary about Ken Kesey’s bus trip with Further. He looked like the booze was catching up to him.Bill

Write drunk, edit sober meaning?

Can the quote "write drunk edit sober" meaning be transferred to life?
So like I really like the concept of Hemingway's quote and I'm not really much of a writer but I kind of want to get a tattoo saying that. I read a meaning somewhere like its "Just write from the heart, drunk or not. Let your imagination run riot and don’t worry about what people will think of you when they read your words." I mean I think that's a great quote.

What do you think the meaning is? & could you use it in life, not just for writing ?
Thank youu :)

Was Joseph Smith drunk when he wrote the Book of Mormon?

He was drunk a lot, so most likely he was when he wrote at least some parts of it.

How can I write dialogue for a drunk character?

Here's my experience with drunk people that may help you:1. My bestfriend. When he's drunk, he becomes very emotional. No hiccups, no vague articulations of words. He talks as clear as day. But what he says are a thing of beauty (haha). He also becomes unmindful of his personal items (phones, etc.), that's why he tends to lose those whenever he's drunk. Also, he doesn't remember anything the following day. Or he denies remembering them, I don't know. 2. My ex-girlfriend. Super active, but only to me and not with strangers. For instance, she still converses with people normally as she would but with me... she's different. She laughs a lot and wouldn't hesitate to kiss me in public (which is a big deal for her, except in bars and clubs). She still walks straight, though. Again, no hiccups. Also, when I let her go out with her friends and she returns home drunk out of her mind, she, uh..., for lack of a better word, "rapes" me. Seriously. Like she wakes me up by immediately pulling down my boxers and just goes at it. And yes, I liked letting her out to drink with her friends.3. Girlfriend. Becomes really confident and extremely annoying when drunk. Hmmm... confident is not the right word. More like... "brave". See, this girl is really small and skinny (but beautiful, of course). When drunk, she acts like she could take on the world! She still talks clearly but the change in tone, inflections, etc., are very noticeable. 4. Most of the people I've met become either too quiet or too loud. I think we all have those people.5. And then there's me. Whenever I get a hint of drunkedness, I try to act as if I'm not. My walking feels fuzzy but I try to walk normally and make it seem like I'm not. My mind is hazy but I "fight" it. I tell people I'm not drunk because I can still recite the Preamble and first Article of our country's Constitution, which I can. Also, I can recite those in my sleep so... I like to think I never get drunk because my mind functions normally during such state. But I guess that's what most people think. They think they're still acting and thinking normally when, in fact, it's the alcohol that's controlling them.

Can anyone tell me.... was moses a drunk?

Possibly. Wine was utilized for many things in the past. The first thing is we don't even know if Moses was real or just a legendary myth. No physical evidence was ever found on this Moses guy so he is as legendary as Hercules. I could care less if he was an alcoholic or schizophrenic. It has now been hypothesized that Joan of Arc was a schizophrenic and the tale of her evolved/molded her into a heroin like image to Catholics of that time.
