Is Ignorance Really Bliss

Is it worse to not know what is going on, or find out a truth that makes you question everything about an individual in your life and a period of time? Is ignorance really bliss?

The answer to your question has to be made on an individual, personal basis. So, my answer only needs to work for me.I can deal with almost anything as long as I know the truth. And the sooner I know it, the better for me. Ignorance is painful for me; it is nothing close to bliss. You know how you can have a sense that something isn’t quite right in a situation? Maybe you can’t put your finger on what’s wrong, but you might have a feeling that something is not quite the way it seems, that you’re missing information, or that you’ve made some wrong assumptions. Well, some people have developed the ability to shut down any questioning about what might not be apparent that would influence their thinking. Other people (like me) are like dogs on a bone: We can’t let go until we’ve gotten at the root of what doesn’t seem right. The good news is that, in many cases, getting to the bottom of things can lead to some happy discoveries, especially if you’ve been assuming the worst (about a person or a situation). You’ve assumed someone can’t be trusted, only to find (upon open-minded investigation) that the person is entirely trustworthy. The challenge, as you so observantly state it, is not to begin questioning absolutely everything about a situation or individual. That is often going to be crazy-making and invariably leads to inventing conspiracy theories or believing conspiracy theories that other people want you to accept as truth. Take the evidence that you’ve had some inaccurate assumptions and get the facts. Then stop yourself from digging your own psychological pit.

Is ignorance really bliss?

Of course not. Think of the last time you had an accident. Duh...

The physics of life still matter, no pun intended.

Is Ignorance really Bliss?

There is stages actually, once you reach some knowledge and intelligence you usually fall into depression due to lack of perspective and wisdom, then if you learn the two missing pieces you will feel enlightened, but after a while you will eventually become much smarter and depression comes back.

I rather have a real tear than an hypocritical smile. So I rather know the deepest truth no matter how badly it hurts than to live in deceit.

Life is beautiful, but our human World is hell, wish I never existed. Just like Socrates said.

Is ignorance bliss?

I would say yes. It's not what it sounds like. But there is something called too much information or being too knowledgeable or being too crazy about knowing everything. Being a little ignorant is necessary. Some people are so keen to *know* everything, they are constantly busy trying to know, never finding time to apply previously acquired knowledge. You should be ignorant enough to allow your mind to rest and enjoy a bit sometimes - rather than always chasing ever-elusive and ever-infinite knowledge. What is especially futile effort is trying to know (which is simply guessing although we don't admit) other's minds. There is no end to the knowledge quest. But one must rest and enjoy at times. Also, being constantly aware (in the knowledge) of very sad, depressive truths of the world and of your personal life doesn't allow you to be happy. Even after knowing certain things, one must choose to be ignorant. One cannot even sleep at night if one doesn't become a little ignorant of the challenges & worries of the next day, next year, and the future. One must especially be ignorant of other people's bad/evil thoughts and intentions and focus only on the good behaviour and actions of others. This ignorance is very important to make progress in relations. Forgive and forget past bad behaviour ----- and ignore current bad thoughts/words/behavior. Simply ignore. Try it.

Is Ignorance really bliss? Can what you don't know hurt you?

I am doing a persuasive essay for English, and my topic was debating whether ignorance is bliss or not and whether or not what you don't know can hurt you. I went with the side that says "What you don't know CAN hurt you" and "Ignorance isn't bliss". I think that because 1. If you are ignorant and choose to ignore things, you can't change things and improve the REAL world, not your fake little fantasy land, 2. Just because you choose to ignore something, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and 3. If you don't know something, you'll just be hurt and disappointed when it catches up to you (because everthing is connected, Ex. butterfly effect), because your fake world is going to be shattered by a rude wake-up call.
So I need sources and opinions proving this point of view, and also if you disagree, state your reasons here. Thank you so much!!

Ignorance is bliss?

It means that if you don't know something, then it can't affect the your view of the world. For example, if a person is completely ignorant of the sciences, the contradicting information can't challenge their belief in whichever religion they're a part of.

Have you ever felt that ignorance is really a bliss?

Yes, a certain ignorance of evil is to be desired. Not complete ignorance in not knowing evil when it is staring you in the face, and tempting you. But ignorance in the actual performance of evil.Believe me, take if from an old man. Every evil thing we do in our youth - no matter how much fun it looks like at the time, will come back to torture you in your later years. Even if you lead a good life most of the time but fail to reject evil, you have forfeited this bliss when you need it most!Make a good confession, and put it behind you, and resolve to stay far away and in as much ignorance as you can muster and God allows.

Is Ignorance Truly Bliss ?

I had an aunt who was a shut-in most of her life. She was truly unaware of the issues related to politics, wars, work, and even money. She wasn't stupid (she could understand and reason at a fairly high level) but she truly didn't understand certain aspects of daily life. She found joy in reading (simple things), remembering her life and the people she met, watching old movies, and humor. Like everyone, she had pains and problems in her life, but she was "blissfully unaware" of the more complex issues that most people consider every day.

Because she had caretakers, she didn't need to concern herself with most practical issues, and for most of her life, she was one of the more happy people that I knew.

With knowledge comes responsibiity. With responsibility comes stress and the need for action. The more you know, if you have a concience, the more you feel you need to do. And when you feel you are more able than those around you, sometimes you feel that it is your duty to do more.

Some people are able to handle great responsibility, and some people actually thrive with more stress. These people need knowledge in order to feel happy, and ignorance would only make them feel useless and unfulfilled.

So, I guess it depends upon your situation and your personality. Ignorance of certain facts can give you the opportunity to focus more clearly on those things that are important to you, and you can find satisfaction and joy in simple things. Knowledge, on the other hand, is empowering and can allow you to achieve more in your life. If you are driven toward achievement for your satisfaction, knowledge is essential. If you don't feel a need to contribute a great deal and if you find satisfaction within your limitted environment, ignorance of the things outside or your envirnoment truly can be blissful.

Good question! There's a lot more to to this question than is apparent on the surface!

Why do you believe that ignorance is really bliss?

Do you truly believe that ignorance is bliss? Why or why not? This is not a matter of “truly believing” or not.Proverbs, pithy sayings, and nuggets of wisdom have to be taken with a pinch of spicing or in context. In some contexts, one is better off not knowing about something than knowledge of it. Much of today’s news, especially of tragedies all over the world about which one can’t do anything, belongs to this category. But the poet (Thomas Gray, I think) wrote, “Where ignorance is bliss, ’Tis folly to be wise.” What he meant was that if you are in the midst of a bunch of ignoramuses and you try to say something sensible or informative, no one will understand, appreciate, or accept what you are saying. You will be better off keeping your mouth shut.Knowledge of many things can be enriching and powerful.Ignorance of (not knowing about) some things is sometimes better than knowing about them.I wish I had been completely ignorant of the absurdities people believe in with respect to God, for example. In some cases ignorance is neither bliss nor pain. For example, my ignorance of where someone lives in Delaware belongs to this category.JOPO TIOLI.Lokaa samasthaa sukhino bhanvantu(May happiness pervade the whole world!)Do you truly believe that ignorance is bliss?
