Is Imagine Music Fest Out In The Uk

Do you think the proposed 'man-free' music festival in Sweden is a good idea?

Lots of different issues to deal with here…First, do they have a right to discriminate? Sure. They need to admit that is what they are doing though. It’s fine. They have a reason. They can’t really say anything if some other group decides to have a Muslim free concert or a Folkepartiet Liberalerna free concert however. If they can discriminate, so can everyone else. The Pride parades discriminate. UC Berkeley has discriminated a bunch of times. But neither will admit it and both would go out of their way to point out discrimination by others. It’s not the discrimination that most have a problem with, (other than the free speech issues at a publicly funded institution) it’s the hypocrisy. You cannot have things both ways.Would I go to a parallel all male festival? Nope. Not anything in protest, I just would rather go with all of my friends and relatives in a more inclusive environment. The people holding such an event will find out that it’s going to be much harder to sell tickets because a lot of people will feel like me as well. Discrimination tends to be self policing when money is involved. When you turn away large groups of customers, the profit potential goes down.Does Sweden have a bigger problem? Yes. Refugees have failed to integrate, resulting in an increase in crime and the crime of rape in particular. Other Swedes are shunned when they even try to point out the problem which is eventually going to result in a backlash. Perhaps even another Brexit type backlash. The defenseless population relies on the government to protect them and the government doesn’t seem to be equipped to do so. Solving the problem is made much more difficult when government refuses to admit the root cause. What do Swedes need to do? This is difficult because of the way Swedish culture can penalize you for daring to suggest that there is a problem. Try to figure out ways to voice your concerns anonymously online and find other individuals like you online as well. Start demanding government protection for events like this and vote for politicians that promise to do so. Vote for politicians that demand that refugees integrate or leave. It is not intolerant to ask a refugee to obey the law in return for taking them in. This is going to be an uphill battle because the biggest obstacle to solving the problem is being allowed to admit that there is a problem.I wish you all the best.

How much do artists generally get paid for music festivals?

The answer to this really depends on several factors:How popular the act isHow much budget the organizers haveHow many slots are open on the lineupEvery year, the price for an artist or a band fluctuates depending on how successful they were the last year. You can imagine that a band that releases an album right before a festival lineup is arranged will probably earn more than if they didn't put out an album for a whole year. Another simple way to evaluate how much bands might be getting paid at a festival is by looking at the lineup post. The bigger the font the bigger the cash! Bands at the bottom of the lineup in the tiniest font sometimes might not even get paid much if they get paid at all because the organizers of the festivals are really doing these bands a favor. Not only are they getting a ton of exposure by being on a lineup with other high profile names, they're also going to get a huge audience at the festival. Let's take a look at this year's Coachella lineup. AC/DC, Jack White, and Drake are probably earning a few hundred thousand dollars for their performance. The next tier below - anywhere from $75K - 125K. It's been a long time since I've researched price estimates for bands so I might actually be off a bit. I can tell you, however, that music festivals are one of the top ways that bands and artists make revenue during the year. It's pretty easy cash for them and because a music festivals put them together with so many different artists and bands, gives them access to a wide varying of audiences, and provides them with a name brand festival, there isn't always a ton of negotiation that happens back and forth. Bookers for most of these acts will send out price estimates for the bands and artists that they represent to other festival organizers and bookers across the country with current pricing for the year. It's up to festival organizers to negotiate for the price that they want, but I imagine that since Coachella is such a huge festival they probably deduct anywhere from $10-20K off of that price they are given because the exposure that they'll get will be so much more worth it that it will impact them positively in the long run. Here's an example of a list of price estimates for artists and bands that I received back in 2013: How much does it cost to book an A- or B-list musical act?

What is the worst mistake to make at a music festival?

Make sure to not eat food that can easily upset your stomach. Having a severe case of the sour apple squitters can really ass up a good time. Now imagine standing in a long line to relieve yourself. clenching your butt cheeks, silently praying to the lord in hopes of not shitting your pants. Amongst strangers waiting for a go in one of the most hostile environments known to man. A well used port of John that’s been baking in the sun all day. More than likely it’s reached capacity. There’s a very real chance that you’ll be awkwardly hovering over the toilet too. Piss soaked toilet paper all over the muddy floor. There’s no way you want to drop trou into that mess. God forbid the dreaded splash up of the blue death. It’s a festering concoction of piss and feces from THOUSANDS of different people.Talk about turning great time into a real shitty experience in more way than one.

How do undercover police operate at music festivals? How many undercovers are actually at festivals like Coachella?

I did this once and it didn’t turn out well, for all the reasons the other people answering have mentioned. This was a two day outdoor festival, country-western mostly, and the organizers asked for a “presence,” which my agency agreed to. That presence consisted of three agents, all of whom agreed beforehand that we were going to get good seats, enjoy the music, and not spoil the experience by making any cases. This worked out well for a few hours until the guys right in front of us opened up for business, selling small quantities of marijuana and the white tablets that were billed as “meth tabs” for methamphetamine but almost never were. Pretty soon, people were coming and going and we figured we couldn’t just ignore it, so I bought some. Then we waited for the seller to go off to the food trucks or whatever so he could get arrested where he wouldn’t be connected to me.We found out that THAT didn’t work out when one of his buddies comes up and says something like, “you f’n nark” and starts pounding on me. It took a minute but I get him down and start pounding on him, then get the handcuffs on him, by which time everybody in the place, including the band, which was Asleep at the Wheel, was looking at us. Sheriff’s deputies, who knew us, came in and got the prisoner and we all went down to the courthouse, so I missed Crystal Gayle, damn it, and Jerry Jeff Walker (Up Against the Wall Red Neck Mother), which got the crowd going. But our concert-going days were over, and the people who wanted a “presence” got it. The guy who assaulted me got two years to think that over. Now really, did we, the government, have to “trick people into committing crimes” here?” Not hardly. They were flagrantly committing them with anybody and everybody in the venue who wanted to commit them too. All we did was document it. As an undercover, I never induced a person to commit a crime he wouldn’t have otherwise committed, just documented crimes he was already doing and predisposed to committing. You can argue the validity of the law, but it’s on the books and picking and choosing which laws to enforce isn’t the way our republic was designed to operate. That said, we should have waited until the end of Day Two to collect that guy. Freddy Fender was coming!

Could They Get into Royal College of Music?

La Campanella - Liszt
Fantasia - Chopin

These songs are very hard pieces, but you must be good at sight-reading as well, they will proabably grade you as if you were in a grade exam. They will ask you about your musical comprehension, no doubt.ABRSM you would probably have to get distinction.
I think the biggest thing they factor is, if you love music. They judge the way you can put feeling in as much as the difficulty of what your playing.
I've played for around 4 years and I only started playing seriously last year.

Why is country music not very popular in the UK, and what can be done to change that?

I would argue that country music *is* popular here in the UK - it’s just that some other genres of music may be more popular, or may attract a different demographic.Other answers have suggested that country doesn’t resonate with the UK psyche or experiences as it does in the US. I would suggest that some elements of country - wide open spaces, the open road, cowboys/girls and guns - don’t resonate well outside their native environment, but other elements - love, relationships, trust, betrayal and heartbreak - are transferable anywhere. If people believe - or are convinced to believe - in the stereotype, possibly true many decades ago but certainly not in the modern era, that the entirety of country music consists only of the former elements, they may be disinclined toward more exposure to it and therefore never develop a taste for it.Just two weeks ago, I went to see Lady Antebellum and Kelsea Ballerini live at the O2 Arena in London. Capacity of 20,000. Completely packed. On a Tuesday night. The previous month, I went to see Miranda Lambert and Ward Thomas live at another large London venue (Hammersmith Apollo). Again a week night, again completely full.Other country artists I’ve seen play live in London, on week nights, always to packed venues, include Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Taylor Swift and Shania Twain.Historically, I suggest part of the problem has been that the UK has had little *exposure* to country compared to other genres - lack of airtime due to radio and TV producers’ decisions (themselves possibly biased by their own tastes and stereotypes?), lack of sales due to a shrinking base of music shops. The growing market shares of downloading and streaming music in recent years are doing a lot to change that and improve accessibility. There are still few UK country bands compared to the US, but some of the UK talent is starting to become better known, such as Ward Thomas or The Shires, and more US country artists are touring the UK than ever before, which speaks to the increased and increasing fan base here to make it worth their while.
