I would like to make an information website, very similar to IMDb. Only it will not be movies, it will be something else. The topic I had in mind is very extensive. The article pages could run in the thousands. I was going to use vBulletin, but I guess that is only for forums. Is there any other good software out there that helps you create websites like vBulletin helps with forum boards? Thank you!

Is IMDb (Internet Movie Database a credible website) or can people edit it like Wikipedia?
People can edit it (they have to be registered), though changes are checked before they go on the site, which gives it a bit of credibility. But sometimes they do end up adding false information. It's pretty good for stuff like film titles and dates and cast of completed films. Information like biographical trivia or cast of films currently being made is less likely to be accurate. Harriet

There is a site called themoviedb.org positioning itself as ab IMDB.com competitor worldwide.On national markets, IMDB has multiple competitors, often being locally bigger than the original, like moviepilot.de in Germany or Filmweb.pl in Poland.Same is true in the mobile world.

Where does Internet Movie Database get all of its information for a typical movie listing page?
Anyone can add and update the information: http://www.imdb.com/updates/guid...With IMDB being one of the most popular film websites I'd imagine it's within the film studios interests to have accurate, up-to-date information, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of them employ people to update IMDB as part of their job description. I have no evidence for this at all but the most productive studios might have a direct feed that automatically populates IMDB records. Then again, it's in the interests of IMDB to remain the 'go to' resource so maybe they have staff that update the records too. Perhaps the cast and crew of lower budget films update their own films, and then of course there are the thousands of film fans who use the website...

What UI/UX/database/features issues do you find in Internet Movie Data Base (IMDb)?
Thanks for the A2AIMDB is the most viewed site when it comes for viewing the ratings of different movies.However i have always had issues with its ratings.- My first issue is with its rating of foreign language films. I am an indian and hence have watched many hindi films. According to me many classic hindi films like sholay, mother India and mughal e azam. Though all the three films have been given ratings above 8 but they certainly deserve more looking at the standard of the films in top 100 of IMDb.( I rather like sites like rotten tomatoes which gives ratings to only English films or few foreign films )- My next issue is that even English films ( not all ) are given bs ratings. One such example is life of David gale, this particular movie has got 7.5 at imdb, now you start thinking it may be a good film. You watch the film and then you watch its terrible ending and well this kind of film has got a rating of 7.5 . I later checked rotten tomatoes and metacritic and there CE the true ratings 19% and 32% by respective sites.Later I saw Shawshank redemption. Well it is A good film ( very good film indeed) . But now I ask a question, is it the best film ever made. Definitely not. I have seen much better Hollywood and Bollywood films than it. Again rotten tomatoes gives a precise rating for it ( 91%). And mind you 91% of rotten tomatoes is not equivalent to 9.1 of IMDb. I don't know how some bs movies are given so high ratings and some good movies miss out in the list of IMDb .And hence certainly there is some flaw in their system of rating the movies.I rather prefer to check the ratings of English films on rotten tomatoes and metacritic.
