Starting a band? Im 14 years old?
What a great idea! I'm sure there are plenty of other people who would like to be in your band...you just have to find the right people. Have you asked your friends? Maybe some of them play instruments and would like to join. You can: ~make flyers and put them around your school, pass them out to your friends etc, about what kind of band you want to make. Have a sign up sheet so people can sign up if they want to be in it. ~Email people! Make a chain email. Send it to a couple of your friends and then tell them to pass it on to 5 more people, you'll definately reach out to a lot of people! Just tell your friends to send the emails to people in the general Wisconsin area:) ~Ask the local newspaper if maybe you can put a little advertisement in the paper, informing people about your band. ~Or, if your okay with this, you can just join and already existing band, if there is one...! How do i start a singing group?
If you want to focus on a non-instrumental singing group, start asking around to see if anyone is interested in joining an a capella group. The best place to find the top singers in your school, who will share mutual interest, would be through your school's choir group.
Should I start a band or go solo?
I want to make a rap band... I have some female singing contacts and I sing and rap myself. I also produce, I play several instruments and I know a lot of musical styles. You have to decide for yourself the benefits. I haven't got anyone I would like to join my band, so at the moment, I'm going solo. Hopefully, when people like my music, they will be interested in working with me, and that's when we can form a band. You should go for it like that. If you have a band, and you all work together well, then a band would be better and less stressful since you share the work a bit. But if you can't find people you work well with, solo may be better for you. You can lead the band, but don't control people too much, as they will get tired of working with you. You could be the songwriter and lead, but make sure that everyone else feels the same. Personally, as a songwriter and producer myself, I would not want my ideas completely squashed by yours. Look at the black eyed peas; as much as will.i.am is usually the frontman and the songs revolve a lot around Fergie, each of them has a song or two that was made for them or by their ideas... Even the instrumentalists got chances to make their own music. It was balanced :D

Is 22 too old to start a band with a serious chance of "making it?"? I'm a hard rock singer, and a huge guns n roses fan. I decided to come to hollywood and really push myself in the music scene, but I cant help but thinking that ive missed my chance and that I'm too old. I've just turned 22 last week. I know 22 isnt old at all, but it is old to get started. i figure it takes years to find the right band, write the songs for the album, build a local fanbase, get signed, and finally "make it." i keep reading that ARs and record labels wont even consider signing a rock band unless everybody is under 25...this doesnt leave me much time at all. i keep obsessively thinking that if only i had started 4 years ago right after high school, i would have made it by now. i think ive missed the most prime marketable years, and thus my best opportunity ive been researching some of the big name bands of the last 30 years...it seems by age 20, most of them were in the band, and by 21-22, they had already released their debut. im 22 now and havent even started yet It's weird now whenever I listen to guns n roses- all of the lead guitar parts were recorded by someone younger than me- for some reason that really bothers me.
