Is It A Good Idea To Move To California

Is it a good idea to move to Ohio from California?

My 2400 SQ foot house in a wealthy suburb with A rated schools and 7 parks within one mile has skyricketted in price to $359,000. There are much less expensive places. My real estate tax is still under $8k per year. When I take the outerbelt to work during rush hour, the 12 mile door to door takes 22 minutes.Sakes tax is 7% And there is no sales tax on necessities like groceries. We have our own water with plenty of rain and no mudslides.Yes. Some people can't stand the cold but the spring and fall are great and real winter is only three months. That's just the ecomomics.

Is it a good idea to move to California right now?

If you have:A place to staySavingsMarketable skillsSomebody who you know thereA jobThen I would say the answer is YES.If you are lacking most or all of the above, I would suggest rethinking your decision. Or not moving there until you do.California, even during the current economic crisis, is exceptionally expensive in most of the areas where people want to live (The Bay Area, LA, San Diego, etc). Moving there without solid contacts, job skills or a decent plan will likely result in you either leaving shortly afterward or spending years struggling and unable to meet more than your basic obligations.

Is California a good place to move right now?

California is a big state, nearly 900 miles top to bottom, and has a lot to offer; but if it is a “good” place for you depends on what you want? Big city? Los Angeles is one of the biggest in the USA! If you want something not-so-big, there is San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, and other even smaller cities. Do you want to live in the mountains, California has them! Want to live near the ocean, California has a huge coast-line (about 900 miles). Do you want to live in a less urban area? California has plenty of that too. Like trees? California has large red-woods and the sequoia national park. California also has Central Valley farmland and the arid Mojave Desert. Of course any place you chose to live, in California or in another US state or anywhere in the world, will have its good aspects and not so good aspects. Some parts of California have earthquakes and Los Angeles has a lot of traffic and the air is often some-what polluted with auto-fumes and industrial smog; and on top of that LA (& San Francisco) rent and real estate is among the highest in the nation, right up there with New York City… but IMO the weather is wonderful (never have to shovel snow)…. So in summary, it depends on what you want and how much you are willing t pay (in time spent searching and moving & of course $ for moving and _everything_ else)… Also, you might want to see the answers given here: Americans: in your opinion, what is the best state to live in, and why?

Is this a bad time to move to California?

I will be moving to SoCal (OC), Rancho to be specific. Is this a horrible bad time to do so? I hear tons of horror stories and problems about overpopulation, high cost of living, bad economy, immigrants, lack of water, corrupt politics, traffic, white flight, too many asians, fake people, snobby people etc. So I am just wondering HOW bad these situations actually are? In general is the quality of life good and is it a nice, fun area to live? What are pros and cons?

I'm a recent college grad who will be attending grad school and living with my aunt. Moving from Chicago's western suburbs, quite the opposite indeed. However I have always lived in middle to upper middle class neighborhoods. I'm used to a lot of diversity and educated and driven people. The towns I've lived in have all been very safe and I'm used to the bumper to bumper traffic of the city (Chicago) and high taxes/cost of living (though probably not comparable to OC).

I'm a 23 year old woman and I'm mixed with black and white. Will I fit in and be able to find people like me/friends? Any advice or recommendations from people who live there, have lived there or visited or know people there. What are some cool things to do for social purposes?

From what people have described it seems like Cali is on a down turn and it probably would have been better to move here like 20 years ago, is this really the case though? And another thing, people always describe California, especially SoCal as this mystic paradise ie. California dreamin' and I know nothing is perfect and rarely ever as it seems from the outside, but is it worthwhile? Or will I just be completely bored and get sick of all the palm trees, beaches, perfect weather quickly? If you could rate your experience there on a scale of 1-10 what would you give it?

Thanks!!

Why is moving to California alone considered a good idea?

While I agree with other answers that moving to California is not a good idea right now, I think I have some reasons as to why moving to California alone is a good idea for some people. It is a good idea for new immigrants to move to California as a port of entry and work in their respective ethnic communities. There they will be able to work in jobs that would help them gain the requisite skills they would need in the United States (with ample support from other countrymen) and find similar niche in other markets outside of California, as evidenced by migration of Hispanic and Asian immigrants moving to other Western states. As for immigrants from affluent countries, having California as the first state to live in the US will remove them from any regrets later about not living in an affluent, exciting state with many recreational opportunities, before they gain more understanding about the US to make their own choices about which other state, if any, to move to in order to better their career and fulfill other goals. Same can be said for young Americans from affluent backgrounds from other states. Finally, I would like to comment that California has been changing the political climate in many western states as traditionally conservative states becoming more liberal, due to people from California moving to these states. Eventually if those states have similar political values as California that causes higher taxes and more regulations, California will not look too bad as these states will still have harsher weather to deal with while having the same onerous problems as California.

Moving to California after high school?

I'm a 18 year old girl, who's graduating very soon from high school. However, things at home have been going down hill and I want to start on my own. I was planning on moving to SoCal with my family, so I didn't apply for any schools. I figured I'd look more once I moved. Now, because things have changed at home I need some advice. I have the funds to make the trip down there, I just don't know where to stay. I would be okay rooming with people, however I wouldn't know where to meet people that were interested, and I couldn't pay them at first not having a job. I'd like to go to school for cosmetology, buy because that's a trade school I can't get a dorm. Any suggestions would help greatly! Thanks.
