Is It Alright To Wear Store-bought Clothes Without Washing Them First

What's wrong with wearing new clothes without washing them first?

When clothes are made, they go through an industrial process that includes the use of chemicals and other products that might irritate your skin if not properly washed. Don't forget that in some factories there may be fleas and other little creatures no easy to see with the naked eye. Chances are nothing will happen to you, but whatever you do, don't wear newly bought underwear without washing it first.

How unsafe is wearing thrift store clothes without washing them?

It is unthinkable to wear something without making sure it is totally clean first.

Should I wash the clothes that I bought for the first time?

Yes, without a doubt you should wash them.I work in retail, mostly in the fitting room, and I can't tell you how many times I've seen the same clothes get tried on before they're finally sold. You think you have a unique taste in clothes?  That button-up shirt just got tried on by 4 different people within the last six hours. Do you know why that dress is on clearance? It's because it has been tried on by numerous people within the last couple of weeks and none of them want it. And you would never be able to tell since it has no visible stains on it.What about the new inventory that just hit the shelves? Those had to be processed on a grimy counter-top in the back room that hasn't been wiped down since it was installed.Clothes constantly slip off the hangers onto the dirty floor and are put back on the rack after a quick pat-down to get rid of the dust bunnies. Ditto for scarves and hats.People buy and return clothes after they wear them and decide that they don't want them anymore. It's easy to tell since the tags have been detached or are missing. We simply re-attach or make a new tag and the item goes back onto the sales floor almost immediately. The above are pretty generic examples but I have seen worse, some of which are barf-worthy.A lady handed me back a shirt that was wet with her baby's drool. The next day, I saw one of my co-workers ring up a different customer who bought the same shirt.A guy stole one of our shirts by wearing it out and leaving his dirty old one behind. My manager told me to make a tag for the shirt and then to put it onto the sales floor. And the most disgusting of all... A lady tried on a pair of pants and decided she didn't want them. She gave them back to me, turned inside out. I noticed a tiny line of blood on the back of the pants, which would not have been visible from the outside. I pointed it out to my manager, who then got rid of them. Now whenever I buy pants for myself, I look for even the most microscopic of stains. The clothes you buy will range from slightly dirty to absolutely disgusting. To be on the safe side, wash them before you wear them.

Do you wash new clothes before wearing them?

No. I don't.Why?Because they are usually neetly pressed and may never look that way again if not taken care of properly. Some high end brands of jeans and other clothing aren't supposed to be washed AT ALL! EVER!The styling of clothing at the time of sale can sometimes never look the same especially after you wash it at home in the washer and dryer. Starch is washed out and most people don't use starch these days when they iron, if they iron at all. Dry cleaning can come close, but still may miss the mark to the original styling.I don't wash everything after every time I wear it either.I wear undergarments, an under shirt, or tank top under a lot of nicer clothing so I don't sweat on it and can wear the outer garment again without washing in between. If it gets dirty, then I will wash it.I use vodka in a spray bottle to sprits the pits, crotch or other area that may have gotten sweaty. It kills germs, odors and maintains the integrity of the garment without staining it.Laundering less saves water, soap, energy and preserves the intended look of the garment for a longer period of time.Washing causes wear, shrinking, fading, piling (fuzz balls) and sometimes things get wonky or crooked because they were cut off grain.

Accidentally wearing new socks from store without washing?

I accidentally wore new socks from the store without washing them.. Then realised I hadn't. My foot also got scraped and started bleeding. Do you think germs would cause any problems.. Might be a silly question but just thought I'd ask

Are the clothes at the Savers thrift stores washed before selling?

I work for Savers and no we do not wash the clothing we purchase from our non-profit charity partners. We do hope as someone mentioned above that those who donate wash the clothing first but better to be safe and wash anything you buy at any thrift store prior to wearing.

All sorting, pricing, and tagging happens in the back room of our stores when the clothing is delivered to us from one of our many non-profit partners.

Good luck on your treasure hunt at Savers :)

Safe to wear underwear from a package without washing them first?

If your a guy you probably could, but I would wash them first just to get any manufacturing residue off them to make sure you don't get a rash and to make them softer. If you're a female, no way.
