Is It Bad To Like Watching Shows Listening Music And Spending Time Alone

Do you enjoy reading books, watching TV, or listening to music best?

When I was younger, I would run home from school to watch TV. Watching TV was my favorite thing to do. When I was older, the Harry Potter book series came out, and I voluntarily sat down and read a book for the first time in my life. So, my middle school/high school years was filled with having to get those books, as soon as they came out. When I went to college, I really got into different types of music. I started to work out every day and study more and more, music, just became a big part of my life. It helps me to focus, it helps me to just relax. Now, that I am a full fledged adult, I listen to music everyday at work, to help me to stay focused. I get distracted, because I get bored easily, and watching TV at work, is too distracting. Music, at this point is helping me get through everyday. Even having said all that, I still have to go with reading, even though I listen to music everyday. Reading makes me happy. I love exploring a new character, worlds, just a break from reality. For me, nothing is like reading. It will maybe always have my vote, with music being a close second.

First time home alone at night?

Yeah, I'm 15 and I would be a little scared too. Just hang out with your friends a lot and have sleep overs with them. Don't think so much about being scared though! Think about how you can do ANYTHING you want now. But don't get so carried away and throw like a party or something. By anything I mean spend the whole day in your bed, watching TV and stuff like that ahaha :]

Is it rude that I want to be alone all the time?

I have a 6 year old niece and I see her all the time. I love being in my room by myself and listening to music and playing on my computer. I just enjoy being alone. My niece likes to just go in my room and want me to play with her, but I want to be alone. I ask her if I she can please get out because I want to be alone, but she doesn't listen to me. She likes me to play with her when my parents are downstairs watching TV and she's bored. I feel bad but I want to be alone. Is this rude of me?

Dorm roommate says I spend too much time in room?

Back in October, my roommate and “friend” suddenly started ignoring me and stopped getting lunch/dinner with me (which is something we used to do all the time). She ignored me for a week straight, and then broke the silence by saying: “Can you go somewhere during the nights on weekdays and weekends because I feel like you’re in here all the time. I feel like you only leave to eat or go to class. I need my alone time.”

I have a lot of difficult classes and I also work. I’m an introvert, so after a day of class and work I’m EXHAUSTED. So, in my down time I like to lay in my bed and watch Netflix and browse the internet. I finish all my homework at the library and never in the dorm room. I sit quietly with my headphones in and I try and stay as quiet as possible. I admittedly do not have a lot of friends at college, but I don’t mind it and I am happy just being here to learn. I am content with how things in my own college life are going (aside from her, that is).

I have tried to stay out of the room as much as possible. I recently told her about my therapist back home and how I suffer from anxiety and depression, and I broke down crying. The only reason I told her was so she would understand I don’t act the way I do just for the purpose of annoying her. However, I still feel unwelcome and uncomfortable in my own dorm room now. I hate being in here when she is in here, but I don’t want to feel like I can’t be in my OWN ROOM that I pay for simply because she would rather listen to music when I’m not around.

I once came back late one night and she told me she had just sat in her bed motionless for 5 and 1/2 hours “doing nothing”. So why is it ok for her to sit around in her bed, but not for me? And would it really have bothered her if I was also in the room doing nothing?

What should I do? I have a lot of anxiety about the situation. I feel she only wants me out of the room so she can sit alone to herself, but I don’t see why she can’t do that when I’m in here, because I sit quietly and I do not talk to her if I feel she is busy. She has no boy in her life....the only guy she's interested in lives an hour away, and she doesn't even party that often.

Am I wrong? Does she have a right to alienate me from the dorm room? What should I do?

I'm always home alone?

You do not say how old you are! That would give a better idea on what we can tell you to do. So please give your age?

I was going to say go for a walk if you're in a place that it is safe to go walking. Do you have a dog? If not, then ask for a dog to keep you company! You can always take the dog on a walk, play ball with it, feed and give it water, and brush the dog. It can give you hugs and kisses, and take a nap with you.

Another thing, find out from school friend if any of them are into any clubs, like scouts, playing ball, youth groups at churches. You can maybe have their parents talk to your mom, and make arrangements to be picked up and taken back home. My boys when they were in school they had coaches pick them up, and other parents like for youth group, and or scouts.

Other than that it would help to know your age!

Ok, then your old enough for scouts, ball, youth groups, things that their are others your age and to where you could catch a ride with someone. That or get a dog.
