Is It Better To Buy Baby Iguana Or Adult One

Iguana .... baby to adult (see pictures) (also other questions about them)?

I really think you need to do as much research beforehand. Iguanas are not recommended for novice reptile owners, however, it can be done. I would actually recommend just getting ONE because their enclosures will need to be very large. At least 4feet wide x 6feet tall. And no, you can not house two together because they are VERY territorial and may potentially fight at any moment, without warning. Don't risk it. It's not worth it. If you're going to get two or more, you better have the money and space for multiple large enclosures. They grow VERY fast as well. They can reach full length (5-6 feet) around the two year mark (give or take) under great care. (Their growth rate slows down as they age; juveniles grow nearly 2 inches a month)

And you are correct, they do not need insects in their diet. Give him a mixture of collard, mustard, dandelion greens and vegetables. But google and find what plants/veggies are safe for iguanas.

Handle your iguana as much as possible and do NOT back down when they threaten to bite or tail whip (but be careful).. When a person backs down, it trains them that all they need to do is threaten you and they will be left alone. So keep handling them gently by supporting their body weight on your forearm. Also hand feed them and give them treats (such as banana pieces, etc) and they will hopefully grow to gain your trust. When I first trained my iguana, I would put on a pair of gloves because my skin was constantly scratched up from his nails and it would act as a small barrier from a potential bite. But after awhile, you get accustomed to it.

I wish you good luck on your purchase and plans. Just do as much research as possible because iguanas are not easy pets. They require a lot of time and patience; more than most people think as unfortunately many iguanas suffer because of it.

And the most importantly, make sure you provide the accurate heat temperatures and the most important UVB florescent tubing. (ReptiSUN 10.0 is most recommended) Without this bulb, your iguana will get sick and eventually die. They cannot live without UVB rays.

Green iguana vs Bearded Dragon : Which one would make better pets?

I would like to keep a reptile as a pet but I don't know whether to get the green iguana or the bearded dragon. Which one is easier to take care of? How large will they grow? What should be its diet? These are the questions that I need answers for. Thank you. Peace.

Is it better to buy baby iguana or adult one ?

For a first timer, I recommend a young adult from a keeper that has had him/her for several years and handled daily since it was a baby. I say this for several reasons. You will only have to deal with the set-up for an adult once. I have seen way too many baby iguanas go from docile to defensive almost overnight, even if they were handled frequently. If they make it to adulthood without turning their dispositions, they are less likely to do so as babies are. From my experience, it's kind of like a fork in the road when they reach maturity (give or take). Also, not only their dispositions, but most of their colorations take place between hatclinghood and adulthood, so you know what you are getting in that department, if it matters. Do you want a bright green or a drab brown or gray? Green or red?

There is no guarantee that it won't turn on you, but if you get your iguana from someone who has kept one under optimum care and handled it frequently, follow their advice on care. If you can buy the set-up along with the iguana, and duplicate the previous keeper's care, you are much less likely to have issues.

Where can i buy baby iguanas here in laguna philippines???how to take care of the???

Iguanas are not local to the area. Best to have local animals as pets instead of imports because the foreign ones may affect the balance of the ecosystem.

We do have the Philippine Sail-fin Water Dragon, but have not seen any for sale at the pet shops.

Ball python or a green iguana?

If you are a beginner a ball python is very much a yes but if you are an expert with reptiles i say iguana that can be very vicious and i wouldn't really get an iguana even if you were an expert because the ball python is just such a great pet and is not vicous and has a good temperment, friendlier, safer, quite easy to care for if the exact requirments are made.
Overall i would recommend thatb you get a ball python.
Hope this helps and good luck with whatever you buy :)

How do you take care of a Iguana?

I want a pet Iguana, and I was wondering what do they eat. And I plan on getting one. And what else should I know about Iguana's. Also if i get one she I get a baby Iguana?. Or and Adult Iguana. Thank you.

What is the minimum size for an adult green iguana cage?

it takes between 2 1/2 to 3 years to get to adult size and this is between 4 and 6 feet. and weigh up to 20 lbs my iggy is in a tank sized 8 foot by 6 by 3 foot with a load of branches a uv strip and a ceramic bulb attached to a thermostat.

Adult male Iguanas can become aggressive (sometimes maddeningly so) for 3 months of the year in honour of breeding season. Picture a 12 pound Iguana running towards you with lust in his eye.

do not i repeat do not allow this thing to roam free. my iggy is 5 years old and i still do not trust him enough for that as he still have temper tantrums. a lot of iggies do not tame down at all.
they are very aggressive and should always have a vivarium to feel secure. they also have the potential to seriously hurt you, themselves or others of left to roam.
no matter how tame your iggy gets he will never be a puppy he will always be a hugely powerful beast with an attitude to match. too may people buy these with the promise of puppy dog tame pets.........never happens and when it does its a façade they are waiting to do some damage.

always keep in a viv and start with a smaller one and get bigger as it grows. they need a hell of a lot of climbing space.
The setup for a Green Iguana can run into the hundreds of dollars. The UV light alone costs over $20 and needs to be replaced every 6 months to a year. Also reptile terrariums can be quite expensive as well and if your iguana gets to big for its home, then you have to replace that as well.
