Where is the best place to stay in Tuscany, Italy?

It really depends on the experience you are looking for. Tuscany is a large area that encompasses many different cities that have different personalities. If you are looking for Large City, then Florence. If you are looking for country and big city, then Siena. If you are looking for a walled city, ruins, and views, then Volterra will be amazing. If you want small town, agro-tourism, pizza and homemade Tiramisu, then Greve in Chianti is your place. If you want to write a book, but have excellent cuisine and wine near, then Lamole.Florence - Large city, museums, a river, a pont, fabulous cathedral, restaurants, coffee shops, art, major airport, etc.Siena - My favorite city in Tuscany. It is a smaller city, but the experience is big. It has so much history, a fabulous cathedral, an amazing Piazza (The Piazza Del Campo). They have two horse races a year. They have historical Contrade that have separated the city for centuries, but also made it interesting. Siena is situated south and west of the fabulous Chianti region. If you are looking for a romantic place, that has unbelievable history with a city that still has the old town, stone, cobble stone street, walls, forts, piazza, then Siena is the place.Volterra - Amazing views, quaint coffee shops, restaurants, small streets, alabaster history. It is a smaller walled city, but it has all of the charm of many of the walled cities in Tuscany.Greve in Chianti - The Chianti Region of Tuscany can provide an amazing agro-tourism experience. The town is small, and has some modern influences. There are several restaurants that make great food. A couple of coffee shops that make amazing coffee, a market on Wednesday, a small church, and tons or roads to run and bike. There are small towns all around the Chianti Region that are just as mesmerizing, and only a short drive in any direction. If you want to drink wine, eat great food, and experience hometown Italy, family eating, then you found the right place.Lamole - Probably one of the smallest little towns in Italy. It has a church, a hotel and a restaurant and a winery. That’s it, and it is absolutely magical. If you need to write a book, write a script, right a son, paint a painting, or something of this nature, this is the place.Tuscany Map

Best city/town to stay in Tuscany?

Hi, I live in Florence and I'm very happy to give you some advice! I don't know if it's a good idea to visit Tuscany without a car...there are so many little villages that are very difficult to get to by public transports...it would be a pity to miss them! The countryside (for example the famous Chiantishire) is more enjoyable by car!
You could rent a car in Rome and visit places that are placed not far from the highway A1 (the highway that you will take to get to Florence from Rome). So, first of all, I suggest you to visit Orvieto, where you can appreciate a wonderful Cathedral and the particular Pozzo di San Patrizio. Afterwards, I think you should not miss Pienza and Montepulciano (that are very close, in the Chianti area). In Pienza you can taste a very good cheese and in Montepulciano you have the possibility to visit the caves and take some winetours. If you want to taste the famous Brunello of Montalcino, you can do it because Montalcino is very close to Pienza. Probably you'll have the time to visit Cortona, on the opposite side of the highway, in Arezzo district. Cortona is very fascinating and there you can find many antique stores.
There are so many places to visit...I can suggest you a perfect location from where you can travel around in Tuscany; look at: http://villamigliorini.freshcreator.com/eng/home
It's a beautiful hayloft, inside an historical Villa of the XIV° century, very well located and connected with Pise, Siena, Lucca and so on...You can find Hayloft Villa Migliorini on FB too.
Let me know if I can help you again, best regards!
