How to cheat an exercise heart rate monitor?

Does the heart rate monitor system used by Orangetheory fitness work with Apple Watch?

As of April 2017, the OTBeat system utilized by Orange Theory is not compatible with Apple Watch, at least in the sense that the activity on the watch isn’t shown up on the TV’s located throughout the studio. You can however have the sensor sync via bluetooth to your Apple Watch to override the built-in heart rate monitor. While this seems a little odd to do, I noticed that my Apple Watch consistently seemed to be under reporting heart rate (and therefore calorie burn) when I compared the Apple Watch workout against the OT Performance Summary email you receive after class. I believe this is because I’ve never been able to get the Apple Watch (using a black sports band) to be as tight and comfortable as the OTBeat sensor, which is why I believe it consistently underreported workout results. This does mean that I wear 2 watches (the OTBeat watch on my left arm and my apple watch on my right arm). I’m right handed for reference and was told that the OTBeat watch should be worn on your normal watch arm. While this seems a little excessive, having the OT Performance Summary match what the Apple Watch Workout app tracks is important to me 1) for consistency and 2) so the calories burned during the workout are synced automatically to the calorie tracking app I use (LoseIt!).For more information on the current offering for heart rate monitors compatible with the OTBeat system used by Orange Theory fitness you can check here. The current options include the default chest strap and 2 watch options. I haven’t seen the OTBeat Flex option at my studio yet, but I have been using OTBeat Link watch for over a year and love it compared to the chest strap option.

Is there any way to measure the HRV heart rate variability all day (or during sleep), preferably a wearable one?

You can measure HRV over a longer period by sampling or by continuous measurement. I’ll limit my thoughts to continuous measurement here. The golden standard would be wearing ECG pads on your skin and a professional device to collect and analyse the signals. The traditional wearable solution has been a commercial chest belt (like the Polar H7) and software designed for the purpose (like Elite HRV). This is still about measuring your ECG, and very very close to the golden standard. The latest technology to measure HRV, taking the wearing comfort to a wholly new level, is based on optical heart rate measurement on your wrist or finger. The only device I know of that measures your every heart beat and resulting HRV this way for a longer period is the Oura ring, which currently does it throughout the night. As the measurement mechanism is not the same is in the golden standard ECG measurement, the accuracy is not exactly the same due to additional biophysical variables at play, but it is highly useful still. One of the best summaries I have seen related to HRV measurement overall you can find here, and this is how Oura explains it.Disclaimer: I currently work at Oura Health Ltd., the company behind the Oura ring.

My Cat is getting nuetered tomorrow and I'm a nervous wreck!?

I can tell this cat is a well spoiled one. :)

He'll be just fine as long as you follow the directions given to you by the vets. When he comes back, don't panic. Listen to the instructions (or read, depending on the circumstances) and follow them. Make him as comfortable as possible.

He'll seem a bit tired/weak at first, but that's normal. He might even look a little worse for wear, but give him the night and he should be right back on his feet, maybe just a little sore. :P

If he vomits a little at first, you may want to call the vet, but that too is normal. (Especially if he ate really fast.) I recommend calling the vet if anything happens along the lines of: Vomiting, missing the litter box, loss of appetite for more than a day and a half, diarrhea, and of course, any bleeding.

I've had many cats over the years, and most all of them were fixed at some point in their lives. It's not as much to fret over since you've got a little boy to worry about. With the girls you have to be a bit more weary, since their surgeries are more invasive.

So, sit back, try to relax, and wait for you little boy to come in, feeling less like a man. lol

How do you calculate your target heart rate?

i'm currently trying to improve my cardio and shed a few pounds. i'm not fat, but i could stand to lose a few since i'm 5'10" and i walk around @ 215-220. i do lift weights and excersise regularly, 3-4 times a week. also, how long should i stay at my THR inorder to improve my cardio and lose the weight i want?
