Why do some Indonesians hold such high respect towards foreigners? Do you feel that foreigners take advantage of this?
I am not one of Indonesians who hold such high respect towards foreigners. I really don’t like the attitude of some Indonesians who respect foreigners too much to some extent that they would ensure to do anything to please them.Holding traditional dance and give them flower arrangement in the airport while they are just some random casual foreigners ? what a waste time and money !I could only understand that we must show high respect towards foreigners who are very important people like President or Prime Minister who comes to our country for any diplomatic mission.Please don’t get wrong, I interacted with many foreigners in my job. Most of them are coming from Middle East, Japan, Korea, Europe, USA and Australia. Are they all nice people ? only some of them. Most of them are bunch of arrogant people who always try to make us do what they want during negotiation process and some of them don’t show respect to our local cultures. I once ever almost punched a member of South Korean delegation from EPS in the face who refused to have his luggage inspected in the airport, he stated reason that he deserved not to be inspected by local authority but when I asked him about the diplomatic letter which declared his luggage could pass the airport without inspection, he could not show it and it really enraged me.Again, some influential diplomatic members from Middle East always refuse our formal invitation to discuss about the issue of Indonesian migrant workers, they only sent local staff who practically knew nothing about the issue.Japanese diplomatic members are nice people, they know how to respect our cultures and the only thing I hate about them is, they take very long time when its about making decision and you will never know when when they say yes nor no.Some European diplomatic members were very arrogant, they invited us to meeting and required us to provide the information of our potential workforce and they promised us to follow up the information we give them by letting us know some possible job market positions in Europe which are suitable for our potential workforce and we have waited for more than 1 year and we don’t get any reply. I start thinking that they have cheated on us and when we invite them to come to our office, they always make twisted reasons to refuse it.Indonesians should treat foreigners indifferently , just like they treat us.

Are Turks being assimilated in Germany?

Shouldn't immigrants want to adopt the new country's culture, instead of perpetually remaining foreigners in another country?Secondly, assimilating Turks is not easy since we take so much pride in our national identity. Some Turks in Germany are adapted to the life style in Germany since this is a requirement for the unity and well-being of a country while some who prefer to be with other Turks in Turkish neighbourhoods are unfortunately not integrated into the society much. This has been a major problem for Germany since the day they brought Turks from rural, eastern Turkey as cheap workforce after WW2. After that, many Turks from different parts of Turkey migrated to Germany for work, education, family unification etc. There is a great diversity among Turks in Germany, divided mostly because of politics in Turkey and foreign policies of Turkey.So shortly, no. They are not being assimilated, they are being integrated into the society. They are simply adapting to the life in Germany.
