Is It Genetics That I Freckle In Places That Have Never Been Exposed To The Sun

If you genetically have freckles, is it possible to get more in the tanning bed?

Okay the bigger picture issue here is that tanning beds expose you to carcinogenic doses of ultraviolet light and substantially increase your risk of developing skin cancers, including deadly melanoma. Individuals with more freckles, particularly those who are fair skinned with red hair, are already at increased risk of developing melanoma. Therefore, getting in a tanning bed is definitely a bad idea and dangerous.Freckles will darken with exposure to ultraviolet light (sun/tanning bed lamps), and more freckles can appear. Freckles lighten/fade when you avoid lamps/sun exposure. Moles, in contrast, do not fade. But I cannot overemphasize to you how dangerous tanning beds are. I encourage you to not use them. They, like cigarettes/tobacco, are a carcinogen.

Why am I getting freckles?

Your question is also my question! I have never really gotten freckles before in my life, and this summer it seems like my arms are getting some freckles on them. They aren't huge freckles and they blend in with my tan that I have so I'm not fussing over them to much. Its funny because the rest of my body is almost freckle free. Also there is no background of any people in my family with red hair that I know of.. My gram was platinum blonde and has a tannish skin tone and my gramp is literally brown he is so tan lol no joke! I have medium brown hair and I guess it would be called type 3 skin tone-slight inclination to sunburn, but usually tans. I have greenish eyes that sometimes turn blueish. I swear I get more compliments on my eyes haha people say they look like pretty marbles? I have no clue... XD

But yeah the freckles are caused by the sun. Don't freak over them. They are natural. Caused by UV rays- both UVB and UVA. UVB tans the outer layer or skin (but also causes sunburns) , and gives a nice dark brown color that can fade pretty quickly. UVA tans the inner layers of skin which is what creates the 'base' tan that lasts weeks or months. I started my base like 5 weeks ago in a tanning bed (going like 2-3 times a week) and I went once this week for 14 minutes. I usually work out side or swim in the sun, so its free and enjoyable that way to get the UV rays haha!

How do freckles appear in places where the sun doesn't shine?

It's the melanin in your skin. Youre genes are determining your skin tone. I have freckles on my tummy, arms and legs as well :)

Do people with freckles ever get freckles "where the sun don't shine"?

Freckles are just concentrated melanin, so technically they can appear anywhere that there's skin, however, sun exposure is what usually triggers freckle formation. Unless where the sun don't shine gets some sun exposure from time to time, it's unlikely that freckles would appear there.

Birthmarks on the other hand...

How do I get freckles?

A freckled complexion is one of the latest North American beauty trends, popularized by celebrities like Emma Stone, Emma Watson, and Julianne Moore. Some women have even gone to the lengths of having freckle-like marks tattooed on their faces. East Asian women may not be fond of this North American trend, however, being known to prefer clear, pale complexions. Whether you like them or not, freckles are a phenomenon that often sparks curiosity. Have you ever wondered what freckles are and what causes them? The answer lies in your genes.Skin color is determined by the amount of melanin in your skin; the more melanin you have, the darker your skin will be. Sometimes melanin can be more concentrated in certain skin cells, resulting in freckles. This explains why freckles darken upon exposure to UV rays from the sun. UV exposure causes certain skin cells to produce melanin, making skin (including freckles) appear darker. In the same way that you inherit your hair and eye color from your parents, you can inherit freckles. In fact, scientists have identified several genes that are known to cause freckles. One of the most well-known ones is called MC1R.¹ Sometimes this gene is referred to as the “red hair gene”, which explains why red hair and freckles often go hand in hand. It’s important to distinguish between freckles, sun spots, and moles. Freckles, also known as ephelides, first develop at about 2-3 years of age. Freckles sometimes fade with age, and can darken or lighten depending on sun exposure. Age spots, also known as lentigines, are seen much later in life, usually after 50 years of age. These spots are caused by accumulated sun exposure rather than genetic factors, and these spots don’t typically fade.¹ Moles are also caused by skin cells with higher concentrations of melanin; however, these spots tend to be permanent and don’t change throughout life.²Freckles, moles, and age spots aren’t inherent health concerns, but they should be monitored for abnormal changes. If you notice any suspicious changes in the border, colour, or size of a spot on your skin, seek the advice of a dermatologist.

What causes freckles on my arms?

Freckles appear on the skin as small tan or light brown spots. While they usually appear on the face, they can also be found on any skin exposed to the Sun, such as the neck and shoulders.Freckles are natural and not harmful. Even though some people with freckles don't like them and want to get rid of them, they're certainly not a sign of any health problems.Freckles are just skin cells that contain a pigment (color) called "melanin." Melanin is a chemical made by skin cells called "melanocytes." Melanin helps to protect the skin from the Sun's harmful ultraviolet rays by reflecting or absorbing them.Freckles are triggered by exposure to sunlight. The Sun's ultraviolet radiation causes melanocytes to make more melanin, which can cause freckles to appear or become darker. While anyone can have freckles, they are genetic. So if your parents have freckles, there's a good chance you will, too. People with fair complexions (skin and eyes that are light in color) tend to have more freckles than people with darker complexions. The melanin in your skin is what makes you look tan. The more melanin you have in your skin, the easier it is to get a tan.People with fair complexions have less melanin in their skin to start with. When sunlight causes their melanocytes to make more melanin, they often develop freckles instead of getting an even suntan like people with darker complexions. Some people have freckles that fade away in the winter and return every summer. Other people have freckles year-round. Freckles often tend to fade when people get older.
