Is It Haram For A Muslim Girl To Play A Sport Professionally

How to convince my muslim mom to let me play sports?

Sometimes I feel like the religion is so unfair. Like how guys can do more things than girls. A couple days ago I asked my Mom if I could play basketball and she said no. And that muslim girls shouldn't be playing anything they should stay home. But she lets my brothers do track. My dad thinks there's nothing wrong with me playing. How do I convince my mom?

And I know for a fact that I have a good shot because I've been told that I'm really good!

I have also been told that if I play pro that I would never get married because the guy's family won't accept me because I play soccer...or that I shouldn't be playing a manly sport.... idk something like that??? But is it true?

QUESTION FOR GUYS:
Would you marry a muslimah that plays pro soccer and is a good muslim(prays, fasts, covers)

Is it Haram for a girl to play a sport?

In certain cases, yes. Last weekend I went to a wrestling tournament that my 14 yr old grandson was in. They had girls wrestling, too. One girl whipped two boys she wrestled, and the only reason she didn't win the third was because she developed a cut on her ear that was bleeding. She won the silver and her parents and mates were very proud. Islam would never condone that.

Can a Muslim girl become a professional soccer player?

My answer assumes, of course, that you are wildly talented, coachable, athletic, and devoted to the sport, willing to put up with things few others would in order to make this happen.First off, if you are in the US or Canada, then yes, you can. If you’re in Western Europe, probably. If you’re in the Middle East or any country where the laws of the land (and/or tribal customs) are based on the Quran, then you’re probably looking at a very traditional, male-dominated society where it’s hard for a Muslim girl to be allowed out of the house, let alone play sports. You’ll have to judge that for yourself. And remember that we’re not talking about playing in La Liga or the Premier League here, we’re talking about specifically-for-women leagues like the NWSL in America. If that’s the situation you’re in, you may want to read up on the baseball player Jackie Robinson or watch the movie “42”. Someone will become the first Muslim girl to do this, but it will take someone very brave, determined and willing to possibly lose friendships and family to make it happen.

Music production if you're a muslim?

Is talking to the opposite sex haraam in Islam?

The answer to this question varies across different denominations of Islam. And among these denominations, there are further splits, such as the various Shia marjis (religious jurists) and the four main Sunni sects. Nonetheless, general rules hold within most of the Islamic sects. First of all, it is forbidden for a man and woman to interact if they are alone. "When a man and woman are alone together, Satan is the third." [Tirmidhi]Second of all, talking is allowed assuming there is no flirting, joking, etc. Muslims emulate various historical Islamic characters, and upon reading into their lives, one notices a pattern of strict and straight conversation with the opposite sex. {O Wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allah) then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire.} [33:32]It is generally encouraged that speaking with the opposite sex at all should be avoided. If it must happen, the women has to be stern in body language, or even better: ". . . And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen; that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts . . ." [33:53] As you can see there are various dos and donts, but generally, things lie on the don't side. Keep in mind, it is the women who bear the brunt of the responsibility if something goes wrong, as they are almost always accused of 'inciting' desire and are therefore almost by default in the wrong. {And let them (believing women) not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful.} [24:31]So, if you must (work, business, medicalhistory, class project) you can, assuming the woman has a mahram (In Islamic sharia legal terminology, a mahram (Arabic محرم, also transliterated mahrim or maharem) is an unmarriageable kin with whom sexual intercourse would be considered incestuous, a punishable taboo.) Otherwise, one must be quite cautious.Keep in mind that what I mentioned is strictly the religious aspect. Some Muslim cultures (Iran, Kuwait, Emirates) are ultra liberal, quite close to a western model, while the more strict cultures (Saudi, Pakistani) are staunchly conservative and strict. Also, Sufis and Shiites for are usually more lax in this topic while Sunnis are more rigid. Once again, these are all generalizations, and variation does occur. I hope this answers your question.

Is it wrong that as a Muslim I listen to and enjoy church choir singing?

To preface, I'm a non-Abrahamic monotheist. I believe in One God, but I'm neither Jewish, Muslim, nor Christian (though I was a Christian for most of my life). I would not consider this wrong. And it's certainly not wrong from the standpoint of Christianity. But the standpoint of Islam is a bit more complicated:

According to one of the Hadiths collected by Bukhari, instrumental music is forbidden (haram) for all Muslims (see http://www.hadithcollection.com/sahihbuk... ). That doesn't exclude church choir singing though as long as no instruments accompany it. However, most Muslims would tell you that it's problematic if the lyrics contain material contrary to Islam, such as praising Jesus as God. Allegri - Miserere Mei, Deus should be OK from that standpoint as it is merely Psalm 51 (from the Old Testament) in Latin translation and turned into musical verse (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miserere_%2... ). Like Muslims, Jews are also strict monotheists and they see nothing in Psalm 51 that suggests belief in the Trinity. So there does not appear to be anything "haram" about listening to a purely vocal rendition of Allegri - Miserere Mei, Deus from the standpoint of your religion. Interestingly even the Qu'ran states that the Psalms were divinely given to David (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zabur ). Other hymns could pose a theological problem for you though because they praise Jesus as God.

If you are wondering whether a particular church choir hymns in Latin contain lyrics contrary to your religion, do a Google search on its name. All the popular Latin hymns have English translations available on the Web so you can see what the hymn is really about.

Is ballet haram?

When we refer to jurisprudential books, we see that there is controversy among jurists about dancing. Some of them are of the opinion that all types of dancing are not ḥarām. That is to say, if dancing does not entail a ḥarām act, it is not ḥarām by itself. This is the opinion of late Ayatollah Abul Qasim al-Khoei (r.a.). In an answer to a question which asks whether or not it is permissible for women to dance and clap their hands at a wedding, he says: "There is no problem in dancing by itself insofar as it does not lead to ḥarām act like intermingling of women with men and such likes."Late Ayatollah Abul Qasim al-Khoei(r.a.)His student, Ayatollah Tabrizi (r.a) also confirms the same opinion.Late Ayatollah Tabrizi (r.a)Some of the grand jurists have said that dancing is ḥarām when it causes sexual excitement or entails a ḥarām act. In an answer to a similar question about dancing, Ayatollah Khamenei says: "If dancing entails sexual excitation or committing a ḥarām act like listening to ḥarām music, or it is in the presence of non-mahram men, it is not permissible."Ayatollah KhameneiSome other scholars hold that all types of dancing are ḥarām.Read more here, here & here.
