Is It Harder To Learn French Or Spanish

Is it hard to learn French if I speak spanish?

it's definitely a lit easier to learn french if you know english and spanish since it's just a mixture of those languages. I bet you would pick it up in no time if you submerged yourself for a short period of time because I am not fluent in french but I know a bit and when I took spanish I knew some words that I had never seen before because I had seen them in french. the only thing you might have a problem with is pronunciation because spanish you pronounce it the way it looks where as french is not quite like that...but english is way harder and confusing then french...and spanish..put together. lol. Long story short it won't be very hard for you if you are willing to dedicate some time.

Which is harder-French or Spanish?

Conjugation : the same, French is a little harder as it uses two auxiliaries in past tense
grammar : French is a bit harder
pronunciation : French is harder
spelling=French is way harder
idioms=the same, both use many idioms, this is a hard part in both languages.
Though Spanish is harder to understand when they speak, as they speak a little faster, plus there are many differences between the different Spanish speaking countries.

French have many words which look like English.

Anyway, French is much harder than Spanish according to the linguists. However these studies don't pay attention to the student's mother tongue, so...

I guess that if I were you, I would learn Spanish alone and French at school, for a simple reason : pronunciation. In French you will probably need your teacher to explain you thoroughly how the words are pronounced and spelled.

Is it hard to learn Spanish if you know French?

Not really because alot of Spanish words are interconnected to French from English. For example, peche in French is fish as pescado in Spanish is also fish; originating from the word pesc- fish or even pescatarian meaning someone who only eats fish from the poultry group. Knowing French can also help you in Spanish cuz of feminine and masc. verbs and articles. They are not the same but you would not struggle as much compared to English as your only language

What's harder to learn - French, Italian or Spanish?

I can't decide between learning French, Spanish or Italian. As I live in the UK, I guess French would be the most useful overall, but it also seems to be the hardest - mainly because of the very unphonetic spelling, difficult pronunciation and amount of irregular verbs, but I'm also told that both Italian and Spanish have an equal amount if irregular verbs? Also, I do like Italian, but I'm a bit worried about it being essentially useless in comparison to the other 2, as it's only spoken in Italy, while the others are spoken in multiple countries. Also, out of interest, could only tell me how hard Portuguese is in comparison to these 3?

So, what's easier to learn for a native English speaker?

Is it German or French harder to learn?

German is easier due to its closer to English language you'll find a lot of the words sound very similar. English is more a Germanic language with bits of Latin thrown in then the other way around. easier to pronounce too, you don't need to roll your letters as much either.
only problem if you learn french would be confusing words that sound similar. also french will get you nowhere unless you want to work in upscale restaurants or do stuff in Africa and France.
German is still big in steel and engineering industry.

Is it hard to learn french?

It depends on the extent to which you have learned other languages. French has more verb tenses than English, and has grammatical gender too. So if you've studied a language such as Spanish or German, you'll already have some level of preparation to help you learn the various tenses. If not, then you'll make plenty of mistakes at first, just as anyone learning something new does. But don't get discouraged; you'll eventually get it by practice, and over time you'll begin to see a correlation in grammatical structure between English and French. As Goethe once put it, "Wer keine fremde Sprache spricht, kennt seine Muttersprache nicht" (whoever doesn't speak a foreign language doesn't know his own).
