For definitive answers see Florida statute 790.001 for starters. Statutes & Constitution :View Statutes : Online SunshineBe forewarned that Florida laws regarding weapons are sometimes contradictory or confusing. Why is pepper spray not allowed to be carried in Canada? Will you be arrested by police in Canada if you carry it? can carry a whistle and do judo.
A2A.Because it can be used (and has been used) as a weapon. There are items which are rarely used as weapons, even though they can be. Think of a barbecue fork. It’s extremely unlikely you’d be arrested for carrying one, but you could easily kill someone with it if you tried. On the other hand, if you were to carry a large chef’s knife around in public, you’d be at real risk.Pepper spray falls into the middle ground. It depends on the context in which you are carrying it. Camping in the bush? It’s just for defense against bears. Walking around Yonge & Bloor (a main intersection in Toronto)? Watch out for the cops.Rules confusing around bear, pepper spray
Legal for a minor to carry a sword in Florida?
That sounds like a really stupid idea to me. Plain and simple. First of all, just because you would have a sword doesn't mean you could a. properly use it for self defense and b. if you used it for self defense you would still probably be put in jail. I remember something in my CCL class about using excessive force ie. I can't pull my gun on someone threating me with a knife. You and your attorney would never be able to prove to a court of law that you were using the minimum amount of acceptable force to defend yourself. The best self defense is to run the opposite way. "awww but that's not cool" I'm sure your thinking to yourself. Well wake up and get into the adult reality here because if you used a sword for self defense you might be tried as an adult. As someone who IS properly trained in the use of a sword and someone who used to run his own school teaching swordsmanship, I would, without a doubt, think if I saw someone carrying a sword in public, that they had no clue how to use it properly and are just carrying it around because they think it looks cool.
Is pepper spray effective on alligators?
You guys watch too much TV. You know Crocodile Dundee killed one with just a knife. Whatsa madder fo you ? Jump on their back and drive the knife into that kill spot you describe. First it is REAL illegal to even feed or tease an alligator, let alone kill one. While you can in Florida open carry a handgun, you better be real sure to have proof that you were in fear for your life. Not just a story that you thought so. BUT I also know a guy who's dog just got swallowed by an alligator, he got his gun and shot the gator in his own backyard. Went to jail, lost all his other firearms and was fined. Now dis-allowed from ever owning another firearm. There is an alligator hunting season, that is what you are seeing on TV most likely kids. You best not mess with gators. Or just pick on the little ones, and hope they don't call their mother. EDIT : As to legality I just noticed. Open carry i Florida is only allowed while in engaged in fishing activity, or camping. Otherwise concealed carry ONLY. SORRY for my oversight, in not fully explaining that.
How can i safely and legally carry a knife for protection while driving cross country?
I think a bat or a crow bar would be better. Knives are for very up close fights you do not want to be that close to an attacker. You need pepper spray and a bat both are legal to carry. Make sure you have TRiple A car coverage too. For camping I would by a Leatherman all purpose tool or Swiss Army knife.
What kinds of weapons can a felon in California legally carry to protect themselves?
NO. In order to use self defense, you dont have to be in actual danger; it only has to reasonably appear to you that you are going to be harmed. But remember this has to be a REASONABLE appearance of harm.Fight class from home: REAL LIFE Self-DefenseWhat this means is that you dont have to wait for someone to strike you first before you can use reasonable force to defend yourself. You can strike first as long as your believe that this person is about to be immediately assault you— and that your belief is reasonable under the circumstances. —CALJIC 5.51IF YOU ARE ATTACKED OR THREATENED WITH ATTACK AND YOU HAVE A CHOICE OF FIGHTING OR RUNNING AWAY, DO YOU HAVE TO FIRST TRY TO RUN AND AVOID THE FIGHT?Yes. If you reasonably believe that bodily injury is about to be inflicted upon another person, you can use reasonable force to protect that person from attack.California Penal Code Section 653(k) states it is a misdemeanor to possess in public or in a car a switchblade knife that is 2 or more inches in length. Some knives must can be easily opened with the flick of a wrist after the blade has been manually partially opened. These knives are not illegal. A knife is a gravity knife only if it can be easily opened with the flick of the wrist from a closed position. See the case of In Re Roderick S. 125 Cal App 3rd 48.While on public or private school property, it is illegal to possess any knife with a blade longer than 2.5 inches, or any dirk, dagger, ice pick, any folding knife with a blade that locks into place, a razor with an unguarded blade, a taser, or a stun gun or any bb gun pellet gun or paint. Violation of this law is a misdemeanor. There is an exception, however to bringing an otherwise illegal knife onto school grounds if it is for education purposes and you have permission from school officials.A non-locking folding knife, or a pocket knife or any folding knife that is not prohibited by 653(k) is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon and therefore a dirk or dagger, only if the blade of the knife is exposed and locked into position.A dirk or dagger must be capable of ready use. So, if the knife needs any kind of assembly before it can be used it is not illegal as a dirk or dagger because it is not capable of ready use.
I called CPD & in IL stun guns/tasers are legal to carry, but not in the city. What are legal non-lethal weapons I can carry in the city of Chicago?
In a quick google search I turned up that technically you can carry pepper spray/mace however, you are restricted in it’s use.In the City of Chicago (a) No person shall use any device to discharge a noxious gas or liquid in an enclosed room in any Class C-1 or Class C-2 Assembly Unit, as defined in Chapter 13-56 of this Code, or in an enclosed room in any restaurant, bar or tavern that is a Class F Assembly Unit as defined in that chapter, if more than 20 persons are present in that room, unless the person is a peace officer, as defined in Section 8-20-30* of this Code, engaged in law enforcement activity. As used in this section, “noxious gas or liquid” means mace, pepper spray or any other substance that is intended or designed to cause irritation to the eyes, nose or mouth, or to cause nausea. Now that being said, flashlight can be a phenomenal tool in what we would consider “non-permissive” environments. A small metal flashlight that has a bit of weight to it and gives off a very bright light can be used to effect vision and strike with. Not to mention it’s standard of use of helping you see in the dark can be insanely helpful in escaping a situation (be it self defense or not) that would otherwise be difficult in the dark. Pretty handy. In the case of a city with high restrictions like yours, you may want to avoid purchasing one with significantly beveled edges as it may be looked at as a “weapon.” However, you would be hard pressed to find a city that outlaws the carrying and use of a flashlight. If they ask you why you were carrying it, simply tell them you use it to see in the dark.Another option may be a “tactical pen” which is a sturdy metal ink-pen that is built to also be used for striking/gouging with for self defense. Some come with the back end shaped to breakout car windows as well in an emergency. Keep in mind, these are built specifically for self defense and may be deemed a weapon, however, I haven’t found any laws that deem it illegal to carry one in Chicago.
What are the laws regarding pepper spray in New Jersey?
New Jersey law allows for the purchase and possession of pepper spray. The law specifies that the purchaser should be over 18 and not have a felony conviction. The pepper spray itself cannot contain more than 3/4 ounce of fluid and must conform to specific formulation and spray characteristic. The law also specifies that purchases must be made in person and not through the internet or other mailing services. Mace is flat out illegal and pepper spray from other states will likely end you up in trouble as well since New Jersey standards are stringent and unlikely to meet the guidelines set forth in the law. The only exception to this, and it's a minor one, is the size of the bottle. Law enforcement officers are a typical example of this exception though this can extend to others if they can prove they need the extra fluid. Hope this helps.
