Is It Illegal To Sell Excess Medical Supplies

Where can I sell unused medical supplies?

I hope that you are not diverting supplies from an organization to benefit your own financial situation. Most people have government or private insurance which cover these supplies. If you are a closing an office and will no longer need the tools of the trade you may be double dipping and taking losses on taxes and also selling tools or other materials associated with your practice which is unethical.People may need sterile supplies if they are trying to avoid legitimate sources of treatment due to illegal activity which causes exposure to dangerous situations. I suppose there will be a marketplace on Craigslist or amazon for durable and other medical supplies. There are expiration dates on the sterility of items even when they are housed in optimal conditions. If a person dies or gets better with an inventory of devices or one time use supplies it may be possible to place the item in a local paper or garage sale. But I would hope that proper maintenance has been done on the durable machines or equipment or you may get sued if a person develops consequences of their use.It is sad that people can think that they can have insurance benefits paid by others and sell off the stuff that has been reimbursed to people so that they can use the money for other pleasures for example selling a sleep apnea machine for drug money.https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/.../www.dotmed.com/images/static/tips_for_selling_ebook.pdfhttp://ttps://www.mass.gov/guides/durable-medical-equipment-dme-manualhttps://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevic...http://who.int/medical_devices/p...

What can I do with unused medical supplies?

Sometimes they may be donated to a charitable organization for use in foreign medical missions.  Check with local churches and charitable organizations to network your way to a group who would accept the supplies.  I have to warn you, though, once medical supplies have been dispensed to someone outside a medical facility, no one seems to want them. I imagine that is due to the risk of contamination or tampering.I had some unused IV supplies after my previous dog died.  It was difficult to find anyone who would take them even though they were in pristine condition and were made for human use. We just happened to have been planning to use them for veterinary purposes.  Nobody wanted them, not even veterinarians on their way to do veterinary charity work in Africa. I finally gave them to a cattle rancher.  So, check with anyone you know who runs cattle--they may be able to use them.

Is it against the law to sell your medical supplies?

That depends on the supplies. Controlled substances, yes, very much so. Leftover wet pads? No problem. Beds, wheelchairs, etc., if not leased (which need to be returned to the leasing vendor), can be sold or donated.

Do I have to acquire some type of license to sell medical equipment on an e-commerce site?

This depends on each country, but will be necessary in most of them. Among other things, the local or federal (health and commercial) authority must certify that the business complies with standards for handling and storage of medical products and equipment, and that this does not pose a risk to its customers, even if they make their products online. In many cases you will not be able to ship your products outside of your own country. In the United States, special permits are required for this, and destination countries may not accept them. Check the site of FDA.Your suppliers (suppliers, medical equipment manufacturers, pharmaceutical laboratories) also require you to comply with standards for handling and shipping your products, because in serious cases they could be liable and prosecuted. You could also be sued. Check local laws and industrie consultants to avoid getting into trouble.https://oig.hhs.gov/oei/reports/...Importing into the U.S.
