Depends entirely on the company policy and what is in your contract. It is not illegal to hold any number of jobs but it may be against company policy. Most companies will allow people to hold another job as long as it is not for a competitor, does not interfere with their work for company "a" or does not cause a conflict of interest. Many people confuse legal with a policy. It is not illegal. The company can set any policy they want as long as it conforms to state employment laws. That situation might be in your employee handbook. I doubt you signed a non compete, unless you are a manager or mid level salaried employee. And if you are an at will employee, which you most likely are, they can fire you for no specific reason or bad act. You might just ask your manager if you dont want to take that risk. a>

Yes, it is legal in most states, but it is very hard to do especially if you have a family. I tried doing it once. I was working at a center with the mentally ill Mon-Fri 8am-4pm and then a second job of bartending Wed-Sun 6pm-2am. This lasted about a month, as I was so tired all the time and I never had a day off to rest. I ended up quitting one of the jobs to have a more peaceful life. It was well worth it. Anyway, if you can handle it and can stay awake, that's great for you, but I didn't like it.

My husband is working on a contract job from home. This contract job is considered full time although the work load is no where near full time. He has been offered another full time position here locally where we live. After some thought, he thinks that he can do both jobs at the same time without it being a problem. The question is, is it illegal to work 2 full time jobs at the same time? I don't see what the problem would be if he can handle the workload for both jobs without compromising the quality of his work. Any experts on the subject? Also, the contract job is a remote position (he does IT work) and the base company is located in another state. Thanks!

If you are in the UK you will not be contravening any Law if you are employed simultaneously by two or more employers.But some security companies (like Wards) do have a clause in their contract making it a disciplinary offence "to work in competition" with themselves. As you are in your probation period they might try to use this to prevent you getting a permanent job with themselves.But if, like most security companies, they are short of reliable personnel, they may well be willing to agree rather than lose you, or else if they find out you are unhappy because your working hours are too low they may find you another site to work more hours. So I would advise you to communicate with your current employer and tell them you need to earn more money and explain that another company have offered you employment on the dates stated and do they have any objection to your working for the other company as well as themselves? Also provided you are doing your job responsibly, be aware there are plenty of vacancies all over the country for reliable SIA licenced personnel. So if your present employers are treating you badly you may be a lot happier going elsewhere and earn a lot more money as well? At first I thought the second company was making up the difference, because they only charged you 90 instead of 140..but the extra 10 dollars would only take 5 months to recoup from the cheaper down payment. Were all the agencies in the same area where you live? In the same zip code? Insurance costs also are affected by the area you live in, believe it or not. Call the main office and ask why the differences in cost IF all the quotes came from offices in the area you live in. It also could be the person who runs each particular office has some freedom regarding costs and being able to deny you or not. Again, call the main office of this particular insurance.....Access?
