Is It Impossible To Delete Individual Files From Notepad 8 In Windows 8 Or 8.1

How to undelete files under Windows Vista?

I accidentally deleted some important files from Recycle bin when running a disk cleanup utility. This happened recently so the files are hopefully not overwritten yet, however I can't find a way to recover them. One particularly is a large file (1.8 GB) so I'm not sure system restore would do the job.
Is there some hidden command in Vista or a FREE software that can do it?

NOTE: I tried some so-called free software, but typically they have a file size limit of 50KB or so unless you're willing to buy it.

Can I delete the temp files from my Windows computer?

Yes!! Why not? Before getting into the details of how to delete and all those things, let us see what does a temp file mean??Temp files are those which are created when there are certain processes running on your laptop. So, most of these programmers most of the time forget to delete those temporary files after the program is executed. Now these get stored in the %temp% folder.Deleting them permanently from your system also should not cause any problem. Now, you can do it either manually or schedule your own script which does the clean up for you whenever you restart your system. The manual option is:Press this on your Windows Keypad: Windows + RType in: %temp%Press this: Ctrl + AShift + DeleteThis should help you delete all the temporary files. But this has to be done every once in a while to clear all your temp files and improve the performance. But you can do the same thing automatically. You can find the steps and details here: How to Automatically delete %Temp% Files on windows Start up?This will delete all the temp files without you even being interfering in the deletion process every time.Thank you for reading my answer!

How can I completely disable/remove ReadyBoost in Windows 8.1?

You can disable it from Settings: Enable/disable Fast Start in Windows 10The same directions work with Windows 8.1.

If I upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, will I lose all of my programs and files?

No, Kevin. You will not lose your data.Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 Update is essentially a Service Pack (the old term for a significant update), and adds a lot of welcome features and tweaks to what most people see as an annoying set of changes to a well established OS.Just to be safe, however, you should back up. It’s the smart thing to do whenever you perform any significant updates to any computer. I, personally, maintain all of my data in OneDrive and keep track of all apps that I have installed locally, but I still make backups of certain things.

How does one type the Not Equal To (≠) symbol in windows?

To enter non-keyboard characters, you first need to know their Unicode values.

An easy way to find the Unicode value of ≠ is to paste the character into the Query Box at http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/... and then mouse-press the “Search” button. You can also type in the name “not equals” or either the hexadecimal or decimal Unicode code for the character if you know either.

If you get more than one answer, select the one that seems best. That will provide this information page: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/... .

Among other information provided are the character’s hexadecimal value (2660) and the decimal value (8800). These can be used to build the HTML hexadecimal entity and the HTML decimal entity. This particular character also has an HTML named entity: & n e ; (without the spaces). If you type any of these entities into many forums, including this one, the entity will convert into the character itself when you preview or post your entry.

The information page also gives a method to use to type the character under Microsoft Windows, but that is a non-standard method to be used in the author’s non-standard utility. Mouse-click on “How to type in Microsoft Windows” to get a page which explains things more fully: http://www.fileformat.info/tip/microsoft... .

The same information appears at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt_code .

If you don't want to mess with your registry, you can download and install the free utility “Quick Unicode Input Tool” which allows either decimal or hexadecimal input for any Unicode character from 0 to FFFF (hexadecimal) or 65535 (decimal). The only drawback I find with this utility is that it blocks out the normal Alt key method which people use to get characters from their DOS character set. But since all these characters also have a Unicode number, that is not of great importance.

You can also edit your keyboard to assign a keystroke to ≠ or to any other character. Download and install the free Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb964665.aspx and learn how to use it.

For some further similar utilities, see http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/utilities_fonts.html . Some of these cost, but are more powerful.

Note that many applications have their own methods for entering characters by Unicode values. Check the Help for that application.

How i restore deleted files after empty the recycle bin?

This is difficult but not impossible. There are a few applications which can help recover deleted items. The issue though is how long it has been since the recycle bin was emptied.

You see, when an item is deleted it isn't actually swept of the hard disk. Disk Management and the File System work together. When the file is deleted, the file system notifies Disk Management which then makes that area available for additional storage. When the file system has new data to store, it notifies Disk Management and Disk Management then looks for available space. If Disk Management has not yet written new data to the area which was freed for reuse, then that "deleted" data is still sitting there. Once Disk Management writes new data to that area, the items are gone.

This is an oversimplification of how this works but it provides the general idea.

Now, another issue is that only a part of the space that file(s) occupy is overwritten with new data. This means that some of the data could be lost. However, it is possible to recover the portions which are left, if any are.

There is a free application created by the programmers of CCleaner called: Recuva, pronounced Recover. It can aid in retrieving files which were deleted and the recycle bin emptied. You can download it here:

http://www.recuva.com/

Hope this helps, good luck.

*edit* Another option is to try System Restore. If you use Vista you can use Previous Versions to attempt to recover files. If you recover a file with Recuva which is not a full copy, right click, select Properties, and click on the Previous Versions tab. From there you can see if you can locate an older version which is more complete.

System Restore in XP is not as fine tuned or as good as it is in Vista, but it still allows recovery. However, anything you have downloaded and installed, any drivers or other items you have updated, etc are lost. So, try Recuva first and then try Previous Versions.

How do I upgrade to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8?

My PC kept reminding me every week that I should upgrade to Windows 8.1. When I did accept, I was redirected to the store.Windows 8.1 Single Language Pack: Choose to install this like you install any other app on the store. Its a hefty download (about 3.4 GB if i remember correctly). It downloads in the background, so you wont really notice anything until the download is complete. Once complete, you will be prompted to restart. After about an hour of the screen prompting minimalist messages and vibrant colors. Voila! You will have upgraded from being the owner of Windows 8 PC to a Windows 8.1 PC!Note: The download tends to be troublesome. I had to keep track of it multiple times. Once you open the Store, there will be a small notification on the top right. It will say "Downloading Windows 8.1 Single Language Pack'. Click on it to check progress. I have heard and experienced a lot of errors during downloading. And the store apparently does not restart download automatically once it stops. So keep checking that. In case you are having other issues, please give an eleborate description, might be able to help.

Asus laptop not connecting with wifi after installing Windows 8.1?

This is going to be long winded.......

There are many reasons why this is not working, Drivers, protocols, ip stack or win-sock, wireless nic configuration. I will be covering all of these.

First Reinstall your wireless driver Or verify its not corrupted
# Open Device Manager (search Windows Help if you don't know what this is)

# Select 'Network adaptors' and then open (double-click) Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor

# Go to the Driver tab and click the Update Driver... button

# Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'

# Select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

# Select the "XXXXXXXXX 802.11n Network Adaptor (Intel/Broadcom Etc..)" entry from the list, and click Next

Second Make sure its configured correctly:
If you had a static IP check it or DHCP settings

Open up a command prompt and type Ipconfig check to see if an IP address is being displayed.

if a 169 IP this is a generic IP from windows when DHCP is not working correctly. (windows Issue)

!92.68.xxx.xxx This is a good DHCP or Static IP address

000.000.000.000 - Check your static IP caried over from the update.

If IPCONFIG comes back with an error then move to the next section or go back to step one to make sure driver is installed.

If This update has corrupted your network registry settings we will have to reset these,

Last step resets the default registry settings for windows in case antivirus/firewall or update has corrupted them.

Again Run the command prompt (CMD)
This time as administrator ( do this by right clicking and choose run as administrator)
