Is It Legal For A 23 Year Old To Date A 17 Year Old

Can a 17 year old date a 21 year old?

I will simply respond from a perspective of love, not legality. Others have covered that well in their answers. You two can do whatever you wish, and you can probably not be bothered by being caught. This practice was common 100+ years ago. But, here’s the truth, maturity increases the odds of a successful marriage. Lesser ages at marriage wreck most marriages within in decade. If you don’t want a long successful marriage, and prefer chaos, family dysfunction, and divorce prove the odds wrong. Pick the slowest horse in the race, in fact pick the horse that coughs, limps, and is losing its vision.Or just wait until the youngest partner turns 22. If you can wait until 28, the odds get much better. And, the 4 year difference is nearly a numerical issue. Not, a fundamental obstacle. The power imbalance between the partners never seems as big of a problem as it always turns out to be. This is usually a problem for couples of about the same age too, but it is easier to work out when there is no significante development differences in the start.Just because you can do something unwise, doesn’t mean it will work. So, let me repeat what I always answer about this question, “Can I date/marry my girlfriend she’s 10 years older than me?”I always say, “Sure, just wait until 2028.”

Can A 17 Year Old Date a 23 year old?

Under the age of 18 is considered being a minor, and a legal adult cannot date a minor, so no.

Can a 12-year-old date a 23 year-old?

Not morally or ethically, no. In many states in the US, it is in fact illegal— a 12 year old of either sex is not considered able to give consent, so that any sexual relationship or even inappropriate touching is a serious legal offense— a felony in many cases, punishable by imprisonment and other important impediments to full citizenship, such as losing one’s right to vote. This is quite aside from the fact that any reasonably normal 23-year-old (of either sex) would be extremely unlikely to think of a 12-year-old as attractive in the sense of attractive as a potential mate—Note that finding a mate is the social purpose of dating. If one should find oneself seriously in love with a person so at variance with one’s own development and life stage (on either the 23-year-old side OR the 12-year old side) then the only rational and reasonable course is to wait at a distance until the huge age gap is less monumentally important to society: by waiting 12 years, the difference is then between a 35-year old and a 24 year-old— still very significant, but not considered outrightly and feloniously illegal by society.A wait of only 6 or 7 years would put the youngster past the legal age of consent in most states, I think. Of course such a wait without dating and/or other actions to maintain the love and the relationship carries what I believe to be a serious risk of developmental life change— the 12-year-old and the 23-year-old will “grow apart” and are not likely to be the same people they once were; and thus unlikely to still be attracted to one another after all that time, when one is now 19 and the other 30.

Is it legal in Texas for a 17 year old girl to date a 23 year old guy?

Hi! :) there are no specific dating laws in Texas. But in Texas the legal age of consent is 17, meaning you can have sex with a man, and he won't be put in prison for molesting cause you're 17! So, in regards to that, yes its legal to date a 23 year old, even though your 17! :) And you can have intercourse if you wanted to as well! :)

In the state of Louisiana is it legal for a 17 year old to have intercourse with a 23 year old?

From what it says here it sounds like the girl is just barely old enough at 17.

§80. Felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile
A. Felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile is committed when:
(1) A person who is nineteen years of age or older has sexual intercourse, with consent, with a person who is twelve years of age or older but less than seventeen years of age, when the victim is not the spouse of the offender; or
(2) A person who is seventeen years of age or older has sexual intercourse, with consent, with a person who is twelve years of age or older but less than fifteen years of age, when the victim is not the spouse of the offender;

The other statutes for the similar charges read the same way, saying that somebody who is 19+ cannot have sex with someone who is "less than seventeen years of age." Doesn't say seventeen or less, it says less than 17. So 17 is the age of consent when they can have sex with anyone.

They might have exceptions where the age of consent applied is higher but if they did it would only be if one person was a guardian, teacher, athletic coach or some other parental or authority figure for the younger person.

Is it wrong for a 17 year-old to date a 22 year-old? What are your thoughts on controversial age gaps?

There are a couple of things to watch out for. A: In some states, any sexual activity could be illegal under statutory rape laws. B: If the 17 year old gets drunk, with or without the 22 year olds help, and they get caught together, that COULD lead to accusations of “corrupting a minor,” or however they phrase it where this is.And I know that 5 years difference isn’t much when you’re in your 20’s, but the amount of development a person goes through from 15 to 24 makes every year difference matter WAY MORE than a 30 and 35 year old, or even a 22 and 27 year old. There is just so much change and development for anyone in between 16 and 21 in every aspect that it is radically more noticeable than this sort of spread in ages for adults. I’d steer away from it.

Is it okay for an 18 year old to date a 23 year old?

Again, Randall Munroe of xkcd has the answer. It seems like you’re outside the acceptable range by that formula, but just barely. Next year, dating the exact same person will be officially Not Creepy. I say if it’s what you both want, just go for it and let time sort it out for you.

Can a 23 year old male legaly date a 17 year old female?

It depends on what state you are in. Every state has different laws on the subject, and 17 is right on the borderline for most of them.

But the big question here is why are you dating a 23 year old guy? What is wrong with him that he cant relate to women his own age? He can drink, drive, live on his own, and you cant - he has all the control in this relationship. Can you deal with that? Does he only like girlfriends that he can control in this way?

Can a 22-year-old man date a 17-year-old girl?

Absolutely. The love of my life found me in my school uniform in 1990. I was 16.5 years old and he was 22 years old. He was working and I was still studying.“without sex” - He never once pressured me to have sex with him but I insisted on it after being together for 2 years.“I’m from Utah” I’m assuming you being from Utah means you are religious? Is that why you even mentioned it?It’s a wonderful age to start a relationship for both of you and since girls mature before boys, the age gap is good too.We have been together for 26 years and I love him more and more each day.Now they are the laws in Australia. If you mentioned Utah for legal reasons, I’m uncertain of your State and Country’s laws.
