Is It Legal To Drop Out Of 8th Grade

It depends some on where you live and your current age. If you are still the age of high school students in your area, you may be able to enroll at the high school and get a diploma like other students. If you are older than high school students, you will likely pursue a GED (General Equivalency Diploma) instead. Sometimes larger cities have “Adult High School”, which likely awards a high school diploma. When my mother was a student (early 1960’s), I believe there was an older lady who graduated with her high school class, but unfortunately there are some possible liability issues so the schools are unlikely to allow adult students in a class with high school students. While a GED should be seen as equivalent to or better than a HS diploma (you have to work HARD to get a GED), sometimes it is not. If you go on to college, a college degree will likely result in employers having no interest in your high school academic record, but you may have some issues finding a job with a GED versus a high school diploma as your highest credential.

When I was in “junior high school” in New York State (8th grade), the rule was:You had to be 16 years old and have completed 8th grade in order to drop out.In my 8th grade Home Room, there were three male students who were 21 years old. They parked in the teachers’ parking lot, attended school and then went to work afterwards. Upon graduation from 8th grade, they dropped out of school and did very well in the construction industry. We were all very proud of them.

HelloYou may take the GED if you are no longer in school and if you are 16 years or older. See FAQs Test TakerI have known students who have done this. Sometimes they have had to deal with a personal situation. This is the choice they and their family made. However, passing the GED test is not easy — it’s much easier and better to stay in high school and finish.Call 800-62-MYGED (800-626-9433) for:A referral to a local GED® preparation program or testing siteAn information brochureA self-scoring version of the practice testsLocating your state, province, or territory's contact person for GED® instructionWatch the video: What do I need to do to pass the GED® test?BTW, you can absolutely attend a Community College with a GED. They will help you find the right classes for you, probably offer free tutoring, and some will provide a high school diploma upon your completion of two years there.Good luck

How old are you in grade 8? 13? 14 years old? No one, and I mean no one is going to hire you. Most Canadian employers will not hire under 16, and even then they prefer not to hire under 18 due to restrictions on when a minor can work. That means 4 years of unemployment, and I can bet your parents aren’t going to be happy about supporting you. And as Mr. Andrews noted, you will be labeled (by others and yourself) as a lazy quitter. You set yourself up for failure because you will always quit as soon as anything gets hard or boring. You are playing a dangerous game by even thinking about dropping out in grade 8.

What is the legal age to drop out of high school in Colorado without parental consent?

You only need one parents consent and the age is 17 in CO now:
Colorado just changed its mandatory attendance age to 17, effective September 1st. Jill Martin is principal of Thomas B. Doherty High School in Colorado Springs. She says she's not sure why they did it.

Why did you delete your other question? Why did you say you wanted to talk and then not respond? :/

Edit:
I reread your question. Technically, you can drop out at any age. I had friends drop out in 9th grade one even in 8th grade. They were'n't put in jail or arrested. Seriously, that can't really force you to go to school unless you're already on probation or something.

What can you do if your drop out in 9th grade? Besides going back and being 17?

Dude, you don't have to go back to high school to get your diploma. You can go to an adult school to either get your diploma, or GED. No one will tease you there because, mostly likely, you won't know anyone there. Your life isn't over. Right now, I'm 24 and I dropped out in my senior year because I was way...WAY behind in credits (and I hated school, as well!). After a while, I grew sick and tired of crappy jobs and got my GED last year, went to college, and completed an E.M.T program to get into emergency medical services. I'll be getting into the field sometime this year. So there, I'm living proof that you don't have to go back to high school to get your diploma. I know that feeling...that ugly feeling that makes you feel like a total loser, with no future. It gets you all depressed and it sucks. Look for an adult school in your area. It sounds to me like that would be the route for you. If you don't want to do that, then you'll just have to deal with all the teasing in high school.

Can you drop out of middle school?

You can but good luck finding a job, I hear restaurants need a cleaner for their bathrooms.

Can you drop out in middle school?

No, you can't drop out of middle school. Unless you're emancipated, they'll send your parents to jail. You can, however, be put on independent study where you do all your work at home. It's kinda like homeschooling, but you just teach yourself.

Well, that's the law in California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, and North & South Carolina.

Hope this helps. (:
