Is It Necessary To Clear Iit For Doing Astronomy

Is an IIT necessary to become an astronomer?

I don’t know what an IIT is but if you want to become a professional astronomer you need a PhD.

Is it necessary to clear IIT or JEE to be an astronomer ?

No it is not necessary to clear jee examination to become an astronomer . Many astronomers and astronauts have done it without cracking jee.Although some aeronautical engineering colleges like IIST takes admission on behalf of the jee ranks but still one could always opt for giving entrance examination which are conducted by these colleges itself for admission to such engineering colleges.

Is it necessary to take admission in IIT if I clear the JEE?

It will be fruitful if you join IIT if you wish to do engineering but if you want to go in any other kind of PCM related fields then you can consider other colleges also who take admission on the basis of your jee mains and andvance rank. You may also fill up certain other paper also which are based on PCM but are for fields rather than engineering.IPM,ISI,JEE Mains paper2,NATA,NIFT are exams held in India which can take you out of the blue

Is it necessary to crack the IIT-JEE to become an astronaut?

You need to be really good in some ( or many ) fields to become an astronaut. That is all it takes. Obviously math+science helps ( a lot ). And for that you need to have top teachers ( or you should be a genius who can read books and become smart ). Top teachers are in top institutions in the world ( MIT, Harvard, Princeton etc ). And in India obviously the IITs, IISc, TIFR etc have India's best. So you dont need to be in an IIT to become an astronaut BUT it doesnt hurt you to have studied in that environment. If you decide to prepare for IITs, check out Cbse, JEE, AIPMT sample papers, study plans and practice tests

How can I become an astronomer in India?

Firstly... have real passion in it. It isn't an easy job to become a scientist in this very vast and deep field. And second most important thing, have patience. If you are doing research, you should know how to keep it cool. Try to avoid negative people saying that 'research has no future'. It has a lot of scope even in INDIA and abroad. If you have the real passion, you will see your job to be a very interesting life! It won't just be a 9-5  messy job...Coming to the path: I am assuming that you have completed your 10th grade board exams. Getting into science stream is a very obvious answer. You can appear for good exams like KVPY in 11th and 12th. Cracking this exam will let you apply for IISc, best research institute in the country. I highly recommend you to target it. Also you can appear for JEE and NEST and even BIT-SAT. Your prime motto should be to get into the institutes like IITs, IISERs, BITS Pilani and NISER for integrated BS-MS course. If you don't get it... no worries. You can still pursue B.sc from other good colleges. For this field, it's very important how well focused you are on research. You can then appear for IIT-JAM to get selected into IISc or IITs for Masters degree.Co-curricular : Stay focused on your career, that's it. You can watch online lectures of many professors from awesome Universities in the world. Keep updating yourself. Try to go through as many research papers as possible in your undergraduate studies. Always try to be curious. Have your social existence as well; by this I mean try attending seminars and lectures of famous scientists, participate in Science talks, etc. In the end two things matters: Your knowledge and your ability to deliver that knowledge.   All the best!

What type of things or information is necessary or required to call oneself as a astronomer?

No equipment necessary, but a pair of binoculars at the minimum would lend some credibility. I would expect an astronomer to be able to identify 10 bright stars and at least 5 major constellations from memory, and more with the aid of a printed chart. Glossary terms like star, planet, moon, open and globular cluster, orbit, planetary and diffuse nebula, emission and reflection nebula, constellation and asterism.Or you can send me $29.95 and I'll send you your official “Astronomer” ID card and certificate (suitable for framing). Just show your card anywhere and instantly receive all the respect amateur astronomers receive.(OK, that last part is a joke.)

Can I become an astronomer without IIT JEE?

Road to every carrer isn't JEE my friend. To be an astronomer, you need to excel at MATHEMATICS and PHYSICS. Go get a BS in PHYSICS and further go for PhD in astronomy. Indian Institute of Astrophysics and many other foreign universities offer a great program in astronomy.Apart from physics and Mathematics, you must have good COMMUNICATION skill as you will have to publish, attend confrences and share your research with public. So just dont be a MATHS and PHYSICS nerd, excel at HUMANITIES too. Finally, Go ahead, explore and keep looking up! :)

How can the IIT JEE be used to become an astrophysicist in ISRO? Is it worth it?

I think, you want to be an Astrophysicist and not an Engineer. So, the care must be taken at this point, how a Physicist is different from an engineer. Generally a confusion arises at this stage (class 12) that should you join engineering or not. As you get older, you will become more and more clear about this. But, it is necessary to take the right path at this stage and not to just get blowed by the flow.To become an Astrophysicist, you have to complete a master degree in physics and then have to join a PhD in Astrophysics. After PhD you can do post-docs and eventually can join ISRO or any other research institutes in Astronomy and Astrophysics, like IIA, IUCAA, NCRA etc.If you qualify IIT-JEE, you can apply for a BTech in a no. of institutes including IITs and IIST. But, BTech can't help you to become an Astrophysict, since Astrophysics is a science subject and not an engineering topic. You should prefer to do bachelor and then masters in Physics. A integrated BS-MS from IISC in Physics or similar degrees from such other institutes like IISERs or NISER is helpful. You can also join a good college or university for separate BSc and then MSc in Physics.Remember one thing, everything depends on you, on how you prepare and perform.
