Is It Normal For A 13 Year Old To Have Anxiety Attacks

18 years old with panic attacks and anxiety..Please help I'm desperate?

It sounds like you are at the point where you need to do something. I was able to work my way out of this on my own. Here's what i came to realize: panic attacks can't actually hurt you. Even though you feel like are going to die during a panic attack, all the feelings are a normal reaction to adrenalin which gets released when a person is anxious, scared, or worried. A normal reaction that you can't stop once adrenalin is released into the blood stream - it has to run its course, which takes at least 3-5 minutes, sometimes longer. So you cannot calm down until the adrenalin is gone- its impossible. Half of my problem was coming from the fact that i couldn't make myself calm down, which created more anxiety, so i tried harder to calm down, which created more anxiety when it failed . . . on and on.

I know what situations are likely to cause me to feel anxiety, and when i see it coming, i remind myself that a panic attack is just teh feelings caused by adrenalin: I learned to think to myself "Oh S*** i am starting to feel anxious which means i am going to start feeling the effects of adrenalin, so i am going to take the next few minutes and let the adrenalin do its thing, and i know that it really isn't going to harm me no matter how uncomfortable i am or how much it scares me."

When the adrenalin sets in, i just start breathing slowly and deeply, and keep my thoughts from causing the feelings to escalate. I still feel anxious sometimes, but it doesn't get to the point where its disruptive anymore.

I practiced this following the instructions at the link:

Death Anxiety. Panic attacks?

Death anxiety is so common you would not believe. I have something similar, but mine is more a fear of existance in a way. Like, how can this be? We're here on earth - WHY?! - and no one has any answers! What IS life? That's my anxiety I suppose... very similar to yours. Pretty deep questions too. CBT is the way forward really, because it makes you challenge your responses. We all have these thoughts and we all have these questions, but the two of us (and thousands if not millions more people, in truth) are reacting to these thoughts and questions with panic. It's not the thoughts that are problematic, but it's our response to them. Other people have these questions and have these thought, ponder and then move on, but if someone is prone to anxiety then the thought of it all is enough to bring on a sense of panic.

You're obviously an extremely mature 13 year old, and definitely an "old soul" if we're talking spirituality here :) Old souls always have deep thoughts. CBT can be helpful though - certainly something to consider. You're not alone.

Is anxiety normal for a 22-year-old?

Anxiety can be normal for anyone, at any age.I have had anxiety my entire life.I remember being an anxious kid, and I still have anxiety to this day. What has changed is my ability to manage my anxiety and live a fulfilling life.Ask yourself these questions:Am I worrying more than the typical person? Am I overthinking things? Do I have the same thoughts over and over that I just can’t shake? Do I have tightness in chest, back, or neck? Are there times when my breathing is fast and short and it feels like I can’t get enough air? These can all be signs of anxiety. Now you need to decide, is this normal for you? Or have you just now noticed feeling this way?Sometimes anxiety can stem from a specific event—something that happened to you that is clearly linked to your current manifestation of anxiety.Often, it’s not related to anything. My anxiety tends not to be related to anything. And that’s normal, for me. And it was normal when I was 22 years old.

Panic/Anxiety attacks every day?

Hi. I'm Mario I'm 30 years old living in LA. I've been dealing with Anxiety/Panic attacks since then but this last month I've had them everyday twice a day they last me bout 2-4 hours out of the blue with no reason I went 6 times to the ER thinking I was dying they did EKG and X-Rays blood test and all was good!! Plus went to 4 other clinics and same thing they told me I have a panic anxiety dissoter. I was trying to deal with them by my self but yesterday morning took lorazepam 1mg and one more at night. But this morning woke up nervous.. My question is for those who knows bout this. Is it normal to have them everyday? And how long it's gonna take me to feel better taking lorazepam??
This Saturday am going to have my first appointment with a consoler so I hope that's gonna help me too.

Thanks.

Can 13 year old females take L-Theanine for anxiety?

It's relatively harmless. You can find it in many herbal teas or in concentrated over the counter supplement form. If you are having panic attacks a doctor is the appropriate person to be speaking with. It doesn't sound like the Theanine did much.

I'm 13 and have panic and anxiety attacks. My stepmom says I have something wrong with me. Should I believe her?

Saying "something is wrong with you" is not the most sensitive or supportive way for your stepmom to express her concerns. However, it is not "normal" for anyone to have frequent panic attacks. It sounds like you might have an anxiety disorder. I read in your comment to another answer that you saw a doctor who confirmed it and a therapist who didn't help. I'm not sure if you meant that the therapist didn't confirm it or that the therapist did confirm it but the therapy didn't help. Either way, I suggest seeing someone else. A psychiatrist can help you decide whether or not medication may be right for you and a good therapist should be able to help you recognize triggers and ineffective thought patterns as well as teach you new coping strategies. Because of your age, you may want to find a therapist who also offers in-office Alpha-stim therapy, which can be as beneficial as medication without all the potential side effects.
