Is It Normal For My Front Bottom And Top Teeth To Hit Each Other

My left top front tooth is hitting my bottom teeth when I bite down even after 6 years of braces/retainer wear?

I noticed that sometimes when I smile or I chew, the bottom of my left top front tooth is hitting my bottom teeth. I've had 4 years of braces and have been wearing a retainer for 2 years (only at night though).

I've actually noticed this since when I got my braces taken off that the tooth hitting the bottom teeth was a little further back than the other front tooth, but it didn't bother me that much back then. Now though, I've been making a conscious effort to smile or chew in such a way that the left top front tooth isn't hitting my bottom teeth in order to avoid chips and to prevent the upper tooth getting grinded down.

Is there anyway that my orthodontist or dentist can help the teeth from hitting each other besides getting braces again? Could my orthodontist possibly just tweak the wire on my top retainer so it lets that tooth move forward and match the right one? Thank God I don't grind my teeth when I'm asleep or my teeth would be stumps.

Top teeth are behind my bottom teeth?

HELLO.
6 of my front teeth are behind my bottom teeth. I know its supposed to be the other around. The bottom and top teeth grind agains eachother. im 19. How can i fix this?? Can I fix this with invasilign because on their website it says you can??

Are my top front teeth supposed to rub against the front bottom teeth?

Depends, At rest your front and back teeth should not touch. But when biting straight down, Yes, front should touch, especially if biting something like a sandwich. When out to the side, like food on right side, right side back teeth will touch through rotating motion, and the front teeth, most likely the cuspids, will guide the teeth through this rotating action, until the back teeth actually touch lightly, to chew.

My bottom front tooth hits the back of my top front tooth when I bite down. How do I get this fixed?

You have what is known as incisal interference and it is a potentially harmful type of bite. A normal bite will have no contact or very little contact. If left untreated the incisal edges (biting edges) of your lower teeth will wear down faster and there will be wear on the undersides of your upper front teeth.

Another problem is TMJ. This type of bite can force your lower jaw back too far and cause TMJ problems.

The fix is to have orthodontics done to eliminate it. It is NOT a good idea to let your dentist grind on your lower teeth because too muchtooth structure will need to be removed to solve the problem. Besides, it is not a good thing to grind away perfectly good enamel and if all the enamel is removed, you will have another problem - tooth sensitivity.

The tip of my bottom front teeth hurt when touched. It’s not a cavity and not a toothache, so what is it?

If the tips of your teeth hurt when touched it’s defined as a toothache, however it is important to find out the reason to ensure you catch any potential problem early. Two common reasons why the tips of your teeth may hurt are Decay and Abrasion.Decay - Enamel is the hard, white outer layer of the tooth that covers and protects the dentin which is layer of tooth structure under the enamel. This layer is highly sensitive, so if there is any damage to the enamel and the dentin is exposed, the tooth might become sensitive to cold, heat, chewing, brushing, or pressure. The most common cause of enamel erosion is decay which causes the tooth structure to be destroyed by toxins produced by bacteria. It is important to work with your Dentist on an optimal oral hygiene routine and potential options to prevent further decay.Abrasion - Loss of tooth structure caused by a hard toothbrush, poor brushing technique, or Bruxism - The habit of consciously or subconsciously squeezing the teeth together with extraordinary muscle force. If clenching or grinding is the issue, this can be addressed by getting a fitted night guard appliance from your Dentist. The night guard is worn overnight and will protect your teeth from further damage. Our practice encounters plenty of cases where people come in with extensive cavities in their teeth, and in most cases, the situation is resolved via one of the numerous methods dental technology allows today. You can view all our Showcase Cases that includes teeth rebuilding patients on our Facebook Page Case Of The Month. My top teeth keeps hitting my bottom brackets.?

It's just your overbite, you'll get used to it. The teeth will be shifting and it'll either stay the same (mine did) or it'll go away. I can't say if it's normal or not, but I went through the exact same thing. I still have an overbite to this day... 7 years after the braces came off.

If your top and bottom teeth are kept from touching each other for an extended period of time (months), will they shift?

Teeth will always shift for your whole life. If you change the forces on the teeth dramatically they will move more dramatically. It will still be slow and minor in a few months .I suggest if your teeth do not touch for a few months you will have other more pressing trouble than moving teeth. Your jaw joint will likely be in a bad way

Top & Bottom teeth touch with retainers?

Don't worry it's fine I had the same problem. Then I got my wire retainer!

Congrats on getting braces off! =)

Sometimes, my lower jaw comes forward so my bottom front teeth hit my top front teeth or my canines touch each other on the points. Nothing excessive, but should I be worried about this causing damage and progressing tooth wear/attrition?

Normal excursive movements like you describe are not pathological in the main. Your cuspids are designed to do that; it's called lateral excursion. When your top and bottom teeth touch edge to edge when your jaw moves forward that is called protrusive excursion.Teeth regularly contact each other with movements of your jaw and most of the time we are not aware of it outside of meals and when you are actually thinking about it.We all have a little bit of malocclusion which results in some tooth wear over time. Teeth also wear just because teeth wear when they come together. If you are worried, bring it up with your dentist when you next see her/him. They will be able to assess and diagnose any parafunction that is resulting to tooth wear.Until then, don't sweat it.
