Is It Normal For Someone So Young To Get Indigestion

Why is bad for digestion to lay down after eating?

Your digestive system works best in an upright position where gravity can assist the progression of food through your stomach and down through your small and large intestines. Parts of the path through your body do move upward, but through the magic of peristalsis (involuntary muscle contractions that squeeze the resulting digested paste along your intestines) your body accomplishes this. While many people enjoy a nice nap after a meal, you generally want to wait 20–30 minutes first so most of the food in your stomach (where it is broken down into liquid form via acids and bile) will have progressed to your intestines. Otherwise under certain circumstances it is possible for this rather unpleasant caustic fluid (containing acid and bile) to make its way backwards, causing heartburn at the base of your esophagus, or worse, acid reflux that can make it into your throat. This is terribly unpleasant and has caused people to choke.

Can gas/indigestion give you chest pains???

If I didn't know better it sounds as if I am asking this question. I also have had chest pains for several yrs now & have had thousands of dollars worth of tests done & all with the same result, "You're fine, nothing to worrie about, it's just stress" was the answer.I also have bad heartburn & acid reflux problems. I found that after taking over the counter meds that my chest pains subsided but unfortunately came back when I stoped taking them. Ive also done some reserch & learned that Hearburn & Acid Reflux can indeed cause chest pain.Try taking Zantac for a couple of weeks & see if that helps you're chest pains, in fact I think I will go get some too. Good luck.

Is it acid reflux, or something more serious?

About 4 years ago, I started having periods of indigestion - the normal things - spicy food, sweets, sometimes coffee, etc.

Over this past year it's gotten worse, and it's been pretty much everything I eat or drink (with the exception of milk). I went to my doctor, and she's prescribed me Prevacid. A couple days ago I missed one pill, and about 8-9 hrs after I normally take it, I got hit really badly in my chest with heartburn/indigestion. It felt like I'd just eaten an entire pizza.

I explained to my doctor before she prescribed meds that there is a long family history (on both sides) of gall bladder issues. Her response was "oh no no no, it won't cause this". All she did was poke around a little where my gall bladder is.

I've been told by many people I should have been checked for it, especially with my family history, and with me being so young (I am 20).

I'm seeking a second opinion now, but any ideas on what it might be? Doc says acid reflux, but now I'm not so sure...

What is the cause of this shortness of breath and burping?

Hi PaulaYou look young - so many of the causes of shortness of breath should not apply to you. However you should still see a doctor. The most common cause of SOB (shortness of breath) in someone of your age would be asthma, anxiety or possibly anaemia. If your chest is tight or you are wheezy it could be asthma.Anxiety can cause hyperventilation - which leads to more deep breathing and a feeling of not getting enough air. Possibly if you are burping a lot you are swallowing air when you are doing your deep breathing. The way to know if it is this is to see a doctor or nurse who can check you with a fingertip pulse oximeter which will show your O2 saturation at 100% when you are SOB ( normal O2 sat is 95 to 99% ) - if it does you are hyperventilating - or very anaemic. They can listen to your chest and see if there is wheeze also - which could be asthma, however this won’t be present if your chest is REALLY tight - but your O2 saturation will also be low in this case ( below 95% probably if your chest is really tight).A simple blood test would show if you are anaemic. Anaemia causes SOB by reducing the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, so you can have an O2 sat of 100% and as you have too few red blood cells you are still SOB.

Why does meth cause chest pain?

Well, all the toxins that buildup from the amateurish unregulated production of same sure don't help any. But the chest pains proper -angina- that's probably from "cardiac insult" a precursor to heart attack but you're probably so young that you've got years till it hits you, in the middle of the night, or when your having sex. Take it from an old drug head; stick with pot, mushrooms and acid. Those things can actually do you some good. Jim
