Is It Ok To Play Similar Guitar Style From Famous Guitarist

How many hours famous guitarists practice their guitar ?

Everybody noodles a few hours a day, depending on their schedule. Real guitarists just love to play and after years of practicing - well, everything you play becomes practice.

Eddie Van Halen once bragged that he spent 8-12 hours every day learning to play guitar. Don't believe it. Most people practice a minimum of 2 hours a day. Steve Vai occassionally does marathon sessions, where he plays for extended periods of time. His 10-hour workout is famous.

But overall, most musicians noodle for a few hours a day. There are no "rules" and no "lists".

Therefore, no one is going to give you a list of famous guitarists and how many hours they practice. It varies from day to day, whether you are on tour, recording in the studio, or on vacation.

Guitarists: Can I learn fingerstyle guitar before learning the usual strumming?

i only wanted to learn guitar for those songs, but i have seen all of my friends learned guitar first by strumming.
and also jeux interdits.

is it possible to learn fingerstyle before strumming? or is it effective to learn fingerstyle?

What guitarists play in a style similar to Les Paul?

Though he is known as a country player, Roy Clark often played in this style: The Lightning Fingers of Roy Clark! The greatest of the lightning country pickers, Jimmy Bryant! You might also like the playing of Roy Smeck, though he was known largely for his novelty ukelele and banjo piecesI would be remiss if I did not mention my personal favorite, Jimmie Rivers:

Why do some guitarists play with the guitar flat on their lap like Jeff Healey?

I have played for 38 years started at age 30. When I play slide guitar I place the guitar on my lap and tune the guitar to an open G-chord. In this style you are basically playing each position as a 5th string root bar chord. However, all six strings are in play. You use your right hand to hold the slide and mute the strings behind to prevent the funny scratchy noise. It takes awhile to get the technique as you are not playing pentatonic notes and typically are playing notes two or three frets up or down from normal positions. You play relative major chords to the minor chords. Sometimes I will play 5th and 4th string notes as a movable minor chord. By not playing the third note, a chord can be either major or minor another technique. I try to be more melodic when playing slide. With slide everything is about the tone and I use a hollow-body electric. The sound will always sound better if playing two notes and using both sliding-up and sliding down technique. With all six strings in play there are more combinations of sound. With both the 5th and 6th string tuned down one whole step the guitar produces extremely warm low tones when these strings are alternately played. Other guitar players will sometimes use this method and tap the strings with both left and right hands. It takes awhile to get used to notes being in different places but these styles produce extremely melodic music. I have a video of lap style playing on my FB page, down the way a bit from around November of 2014.

How did some famous guitarists like Jimmy Page and Hendrix learn to play by listening to records?

They didn’t.Yes, a lot of guitarists say that they learn from listening to records. But I don’t believe anyone will completely learn guitar by just listening to records. Everybody has to learn basic guitar lessons from somebody/something. Listening with ear and playing it is almost impossible. Jimmy Page took few months guitar lessons. When he learned the basic lessons, THEN he started to listen songs and play. On the other hand, as for Jimi Hendrix he used to listen songs and play it. He didn’t have a proper guitar teacher. Yes, But he always went to local musicians when he got into trouble. So, no one could start playing guitar as a complete beginner, unless the first person who invented guitar. Everybody more or less has to take the basic guitar lessons. There is a time when you could be on your own, you don’t have to take any guitar lessons. But you gotta reach to that point.I hope it helps.

Who are some jazz guitarists similar to Joe Pass?

Not many people in US are familiar with him, and he keeps a low profile, but I have never heard anyone who has a greater mastery of chord melody than Sylvain Luc. Lots of youtube videos of him playing various jazz pieces and I think he also composes original pieces as well.He also has a number of duets with Bireli Lagrene. Lagrene being one of the most impressive guitarists on the planet, that gives you an idea of the technical level that Luc occupies.Anyway, check him out. You will find that while there are many guitarists that play similar style to Joe Pass, Luc definitely adds his own special something to the integration of chords and melody and does it on a technical level that is fairly astounding.BrianFree Guitar Lessons - Guitar Dreams

What are my chances of becoming a famous rock star guitarist?

I ALWAYS play my guitar and I never put it down unless I seriously have to for like school and other stuff. I'm a self taught guitarist, but I don't know how many famous guitarists are self taught. My plans are to later on kinda host some auditions in my home town when I'm a little older (i'm 15) and pick a singer, bass, drummer, and maybe another guitarist. I live in a little Virginia town so I'll deff need to go somewhere else to get discovered, but I just don't know...should I just give up on this dream. I'm still gonna study in case the whole rock band thing doesn't work out I'll probably be a doctor or nurse...but anyway what are my chances and should I just pitch the guitar and give up?

My #1 Inspiration A7x

My uncle says guitarist Guthrie Govan is rubbish and can’t play the guitar for toffee. I think he’s awesome, who is right?

I had literally never heard of Guthrie Govan when I read this question. So I went and googled him, and watched the first three video results, which were these:Okay, I only watched the first two minutes of that one. I decided it probably wasn’t going to do anything radically unexpected after that.Okay, I didn’t watch all of that one, either. I got the point about twenty seconds in and skipped at various points to the end to see if he was going to do anything radically interesting.First off, you can tell your uncle that he’s clearly suffering from some kind of bias: Guthrie Govan is not rubbish and can play the guitar.Having said that, I now know why I have never heard of Guthrie Govan before. I have fairly acute guitar radar when it comes to notable players, and for all that he can wail, he is firmly in a tradition of guy standing out front wailing on minor scales with a blues influence and some jazz-ish substitutions on a distorted guitar while a rhythm section plonks away behind him, sometimes in an odd time signature to show that they mean business.Nothing very original or interesting going on there, is what I’m saying. I have heard a lot of stuff like this and it impressed and intimidated me when I was a teenager, but didn’t communicate anything to me except Gosh, can’t I play! It doesn’t impress me any more because loads of guys can play like this. I would like to see what he can do with a shitty cheap acoustic guitar and without all that expensive tone behind him.So, he can play guitar, all right. I just don’t think he has anything of interest to say as a musician. But that’s just me. If you like it, enjoy.Your uncle’s still wrong; he’s mistaken his personal taste for some sort of objective yardstick. There is no such thing. You can tell him that from me.Edit: To avoid further comments from fans of the gentleman, let me just re-state my conclusion, with some nuance added from comments and further viewing:Guthrie Govan is a very skilled guitar player indeed who can expertly mimic most if not all styles. To say he can’t play the guitar is patently ridiculous. However, some people, me included, are not convinced that this level of technical skills means he is a great musician, because we find his playing lacking in personality and originality.
