Is It Ok To Take St John

Tylenol pm and st john's wort?

I'm sure it effects people differently, but Tylenol PM is pretty strong and it makes me drowsy the next day. As far as taking it with St. John's Wort, I don't think it will hurt you. I take Excedrin PM along with my antidepressants. Excedrin PM works better for me.
Good luck, I know it's hard to find the right combination that works effectively. :)

Is it ok or safe to take st. john's wort, sam-e, and 5-htp at the same time?

I would take them together with caution. Actually, even with St. John's Wort and 5-HTP, you may already be in trouble... 5-HTP supports Serotonin while St. John's Wort slows the breakdown of Serotonin. You should be careful with those two alone... but adding Sam-e is nearing the point of overkill.

In general, you shouldn't take too many supplements that support Serotonin because while a little boost to Serotonin can help you sleep, a bigger dose can wake you up. It's a weird idea, but Serotonin is the hormone that controls both the sleeping AND the waking cycles.
If you are taking any prescriptions, you should ask a pharmacist if it would be safe as they have access to a database of drug/supplement interactions. Good luck!

Can you take St. John's Wort along with 10mg of Prozac?

Not recommended. As another poster already pointed out, St. John’s Wort combined with an SSRI can lead to serotonin syndrome. Now, the absolute risk of serotonin syndrome is low but why take the chance? If you are committed to a trial of SSRI, then it is better if you just stick with the SSRI. I am pretty sure that an SSRI is more efficacious in increasing your serotonin level in your brain than St. John’s Wort anyway. And there are many choices of SSRI’s nowadays: Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Lexapro, Paxil and Luvox. If you have side effects on one of them, you can request your physician to switch you to another SSRI. Then if SSRI’s do not work for you, you can consider SNRI’s and atypicals (such as Wellbutrin and Remeron). Please work your physician closely and let him/her know about all the medications, herbs and supplements you take. Only your physician can render you specific medical advice.

Is it safe to take St. John's Wort and Melatonin?

I take three 300mg SJW pills, I haven't been getting to sleep well can I take melatonin?? The bottle says not to take with supplements containing 5-HTP or valerin, does St. John's Wort have these??

Is it okay to take St. John's Wort with a benzodiapezine? What will happen?

I don't know the specific interaction with bromazepam, but in general, St. John's Wort is an inducer of the cytochrome P450 system in the liver (makes it run faster). The P450 system is responsible for the metabolism of a wide variety of drugs (including benzodiazepenes), so it will increase the rate of metabolism and generally reduce the concentration of drug in the bloodstream and/or decrease the duration of action, making it less effective. It also increases the danger of developing serotonin syndrome in drugs that act on the serotonin system, but that's not a consideration in this case. Key point is that "natural" does not equal "safe" - herbal medications have very real side effects, and St. John's Wort is a notorious example of this. Unfortunately, many people who use herbal medicines are not aware of this (unlike you), and run into problems as a result.

I take St. Johns wort on a daily basis. Can I take my daily dose at night and have it be effective but avoid some of the light toxic side effects of the herb?

Photosensitivity is a problem with hypericum which is found in SJW. External use is most dangerous and light activation of hypericum can cause burning and scarring. Case reports document the risk to people takes SJW supplements, but overall SJW has a low rate of side effects when compared to prescription medications, although the most commonly used antidepressants, SSRIs, are also quite safe (flip side is that clinical trial data for SJW is not as good and you risk drug drug interactions). As for taking it at night, you have to hope that it's out of your system somewhat come day when you'll get sun exposure. However, SJW is most commonly used three times daily. Plus, the half life is 24-48 hours, so you can't expect it to be out of your system during the day just by taking it at night. St. John's Wort - American Family PhysicianIn general I'd expect you need decent drug levels to achieve benefit and not only have the drug active at night. And given the marginal efficacy you are likely better off with an FDA approved medication.

How effective is St. Johns wort for anxiety?

St John's wort can be very effective, but use with caution.  It is one of the biggest drug interacting herbs.  It will make any other pharmaceuticals you are taking less effective.  It will also make you much more likely to get a sunburn.  In addition, it has great anti-viral properties.  It should only be used under supervision of a trained professional. It won't treat the root cause of anxiety.  It may help symptoms, but as stated below with Devan, mindfulness is a better way to go.  Someone who can help you find an individualized plan to treat your anxiety is a licensed Naturopathic Physician.  Here is a database: American Association of Naturopathic Physicians: Natural Medicine. Real Solutions. (always verify the credentials of naturopaths in the US to make sure they attended an accredited medical school and are licensed to practice medicine). Please don't self prescribe supplements you read about on the internet without proper advice.

How long does St. John's wort stay in the system?

Detection time varies by each individual based on their age, weight and metabolism. It usually stays from one day to 3 days. Hope this helps! Also As per this site, St. John’s Wort supplements should not be taken for more than 8 weeks.
