Is It Okay To Drink Alcohol With Stitches In My Mouth From Oral Surgery

Can I drink alcohol after oral surgery?

Well, there's two ways of looking at it really.

Drinking weakens your immune system so it could potentially make you more susceptible to an infection in your mouth.

On the other hand, alcohol is a good antiseptic. Rinsing a nice stiff shot of Wild Turkey 101 around in your mouth every 10 minutes will probably help it heal! LOL...

Good luck!

Can I drink alcohol after oral surgery?

DRINKING AFTER ORAL SURGERY??Having a tooth extracted or implant placed is an experience no one really wants to go through, especially during summertime, when people are having parties, barbeque, cocktails, etc, each one includes alcohol.A common question most dentist gets is how long should one wait to have alcohol after oral surgery. Most dentists recommend waiting at least 48 hours before consuming alcohol again. After surgery, you should wait 24 hours to relax and recover the effect of the surgery. If you’ve just had an extraction done, especially wisdom teeth, resting will help you develop blood clots thoroughly, allowing the bleeding to stop and preventing dry sockets from occurring.Additionally, you will more than likely be prescribed pain medications after your oral surgery treatment. Consuming beer, wine, or spirits while under the influence of pain medications can be very dangerous and can result in liver failure, impaired motor function, dizziness, and overdose.Hence after the surgery, it is strictly recommended to avoid any kind of alcohol while you are on the pain medication.Furthermore, if you want to have any kind of oral surgery then, you may contact Origin Dental Wellness. Compassionate care combined with state of the art equipment and techniques are values to which they adhere.Thank you for the A2A.Hope this helps.

Can I drink if i have sitches in my mouth?

Okay so this might sound like a horrible question but... yesterday I had two teeth removed and bone grafts done. The closed my small wound with stitches. It was an emergency operation due to an abscess that formed in the gum.... Well I have a once a year Whiskey tasting that I am suppose to attend tomorrow night. Of course I don't plan on doing shot of whiskey all night but is it completely unacceptable to drink with these stitches. The proper care paper they gave me only advised i stay away from alcohol for 24 hours due to it being a blood thinner. I have an appointment next week to have the stitches removed...Even if I can drink straight whiskey can i do a glass of wine.......

Wisdom teeth dissolvable stitches drinking alcohol?

After some google research it advises not to drink or even swish mouth with water within 24 hours of the procedure. After going through some forums, most patients were told not to smoke or drink for 3 days to a week. Seeing you went through this procedure 11 days ago, you should be fine. ***But don't take my word for it***, if you really want to be careful, just ask your dentist if you can somehow.

Also if you are taking any medication regarding post-extraction, you shouldnt mix that with alcohol.

EDIT:
Then I reckon you should be fine :) Some people mentioned not to have beer instantly as it has yeast and it can cause an infection but most sites and websites say that you shouldnt consume any alcohol or smoke for 3 days to a week post extraction so I believe you should be fine

Can I drink alcohol 48 hours after a tooth extraction?

Not if you are still taking a narcotic pain medication such as hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lortab) or oxycodone (Percocet) since they would have an additive effect which could be very dangerous, and potentially deadly. If you are no longer taking those, and the tooth is in the upper jaw, you can consume alcohol in moderation. In the lower jaw, it takes 72 hours for the blood clot to organize enough in the socket so that the potential ability of alcohol to thin the blood doesn't lead to the clot lysing (breaking apart) and washing out of the socket, leading to a very painful condition known as dry socket. So just follow these guidelines and use common sense and you should be OK

Is it OK to drink alcohol after a wisdom tooth extraction?

My friend says alcohol will dissolve the stitches and/or blood clot, but my dentist didn't say anything about avoiding alchohol. He only said to avoid smoking and using a straw.
It's been a week since the extraction. What's been your experience? Did your dentist tell you to avoid alcohol? Did you get a dry socket after consuming beer?
