Is it legal to post a picture of a minor without parental consent?

The answer is one word, “Depends”!Rule No 1. when you are outdoors, all the courts have ruled, “you have no expectations of privacy”. You do have expectations of privacy in your home, hotel room, to a limited extent in your car with the doors locked, and limited extent at work for company private and proprietary work. Now that said, under the “Fair Use Act” you can post or repost things in sample and small niblets for the purposes of “education, news worty, teaching, public awareness, and Non for profit”.Where it’s a minor, are you invading the child's privacy, and yes, even children expect privacy. Is it harmful, or will endanger the child, to stalkers and molestors, will it invite or procure unwanted attention and danger to the child, then you could be sued. You asked if it was “legal” yes, it’s legal based on the content I just wrote. Can you still be sued in a “civil suit” absolutely!Because when you ask is it “legal”; you’re essentially asking if it’s a crime. Answer: it’s not a crime unless you were going to do something malicious with the picture and post the picture that would invite danger or unwanted attention from potential pedophiles, child pornography, kidnappers, stalkers to endanger that child. If you do, even “unintentionally”; that’s on YOU, and you could be held liable in a Civil Suit and Criminal charges. And if that picture gets stolen or downloaded online and reused for those same purposes; you could be on the hook for that as well. (potential pedophiles, child pornography, kidnappers, stalkers to endanger that child.)

Is it haram to take pictures of the Quran?

I dont think its haram because it's already in front of you in a material way. Although, it is haram to try to create a picture of God or Mohamed (PBUH) becasue they're suppose to be greater than our imagination and its seen as an insult when you try to capture their glory on a piece of paper. Pictures of the Quran are acceptable. Hope this helps and best of luck =)

Is it haram to post a picture of yourself on facebook?

Pictures can be very distracting, if you post it without hijab, then it is definitely forbidden sis. Where as if you wear hijab, but have guys on your list, then it can still be very distracting and may cause fitnah.

Besides, would you want a non mahram to look at you, even if it is only your face, and think that your 'pretty'? Wanton display of a muslimah is forbidden :)

What can you do if someone posts a picture of you without your consent?

Thanks for the A2A. The original question is: Can anyone post pictures of me on social media without my consent?Yes, they may. And Chris is right that in many countries if you’re in a public place your photograph may be taken without consent. I recall a case that I think was from New York where a photographer exhibited a series of photographs shot through open windows. As the photographer was on the street and the windows were open it wasn’t considered a breach of privacy. There was something with them being exhibited versus sold factoring in the case too.Personally, I don’t like people taking photos of me, so if a friend starts to take a photo I move out of shot. My friends use me to take the photos, respecting my choice not to be in them. If any I didn’t like appeared online then I would initially approach the person who uploaded them with a polite request. I recommend similar.

Is posting pictures of myself on facebook haram?

Some will say it is haram and some will say it is disliked it. It's best not put your picture online anywhere. We know in Islam the first gaze is forgiven and second is sin and Allah tells the believing men and women to lower their gaze. Putting pictures online and having non-mahrams gaze upon them is going opposite of that command. So this way it is haram to have pictures online. But what if you have it private so only mahrams can see it? then i would say it is best not to put your picture online at all, especially on FB. These social sites are not safe, it's an easy way to dupe the public into revealing their personal data and photos so that these sites can keep them in their database. With so much private information such sites, there isn't even need for a search warrant anymore these days. It's not a wise step to take to put your personal info online like that, especially FB when know of all the privacy invasion violations it has done and the sharing of your info with 3rd parties.

you look at the thread below to be better informed of the dangers of posting on such social sites.

Is taking pictures allowed in islam?

Allow me to venture to answer this question, even though I am not an authority in Islam nor it is my religion. I am giving my own personal view based on my own study of the religion.Islam believes, and rightly so, that there is only one Supreme Creator/God. It is an abstract concept. There is no ‘picture’ of Allah, in the way we have picture of Jesus or of Hindu deities.Allah is one without the other - the only and sole reality of this world. When we have a ‘picture’ of any person or even any ‘thing’ - whether living or non-living, we create a duality. The mind gets defocussed, so to say. We need to focus our sole attention to the one final reality of Allah, without getting distracted with other images.I feel that even the picture of Kaaba or of the written name of Allah or picture of any verse from Quran will therefore for this reason, not allowed in the strictest sense of the true Islam. This view is expressed going beyond the pedantic aspect of the religion. It is more of a ‘conceptual’ understanding of the religion. We should not get ‘locked’ in the outer form of the words and go beyond to have a true understanding.
