Is It Possible For Me To Get Rid Of A Sore Throat To Avoid A Cold

Is it true that having cold drinks on a sore throat makes it worse?

ummmm...  that drink would have to be VERY hot-  over 120 degrees, at least.  You'd risk scalding the thinner tissues of lips and oral mucosa.  Hot drinks can help a sore throat by thinning secretions (mucus is sticky-  so think like washing something sticky in the sink-  does hot or cold work best?) and washing them into the more acidic area of the stomach, though.Cold drinks can actually feel good to a sore throat-  it all depends on the person.  But the very best home remedy is still the old-fashioned salt-water gargle.  It will take away some of the swelling so there's less inflammation (pain) and also help thin and get rid of some of the mucus (irritant). And if neither of those work and you can't see your Doctor for a day or so, try hot tea with honey and a shot of whiskey.  That'll work.

How can I prevent this Sore Throat/Cold to get worse?

Get lots of rest! Bundle up and keep warm, gargle frequently with warm salted water (1/2 tsp salt/6 oz water), drink scads of fluids! Orange juice, fruit juices and esp water. Down lots of Vitamin C, (you can't OD on the C) it just gives you healthy urine. Ibuprofen for mild headaches or stiffness, if necessary. Eat light, but eat right! Chicken soup is not just a myth! It will make you sweat out the cold, and give you strength to fight the germ. (If it makes your nose run, good! Better out than in!) Did I say rest? Good, rest again! Give your body the extra time to fight the good fight! Stay positive! (good attitude and a positive spirit really does a body good!) Relax with a cup of lemon tea with honey (good for the throat). You'll feel better or it, I'm positive!

What are the natural ways to fight cold and sore throat?

Eat garlic. Lots and lots of garlic. Raw if you can manage it - otherwise on bread or in soup. Get as much into you as you can.Make this drink: hot water into which you put two soluble asprins, a tablespoon of honey and a large squeeze of lemon juice. Drink two or three of these a day.Put lots and lots of vicks vapour rub on the soles of your feet. Cover with thick socks. I don't know why this helps, but it does.Sleep. As much as you possibly can, with the window open to let fresh air in. Add an extra blanket or a hot water bottle if you are cold.If you're having to blow your nose a lot, use tissues, not hankies, throw them out straight away, and put vaseline around your nose to keep it from getting red and sore.Keep your fluids up with water. Get someone to read you a story.

Why do some people surely catch a cold/sore throat after drinking or eating anything cold, wheareas many other people seem to be fine drinking cold drinks?

First off, the people you described as prone to catching colds from drinking or eating anything cold---I'm one of those people. As was my mother. As was my grandfather. Any time my mother would drink a cold cup of juice or water straight from the fridge, you could bet she would lose her voice and get a fever two days later.  I've seldom even dared to drink something straight from the fridge, because eating mildly cold ice cream is enough to make me sick. I grew up thinking this is normal, as my mother always lectured me, and my grandfather lectured her "not to drink anything straight from the fridge" and "to eat ice cream slowly." And when I was rebellious and couldn't bear the wait--lo and behold, I would get sick in about 1-4 days. Then I would see kids down pints of cold soda and eat ice cream straight from the freezer and would watch them in amazement that they would dare to risk horrible fevers and soar throat. I was amazed that when I explained my "condition" to them, none of them could relate.I refuse to believe this is only immunity, as it is something that has been inherited and seems to not happen to anyone else. It's not a confusion between "[casualty] and coincidence" either as Mr."best answer" courteously deprecated. Coincidence doesn't dictate that every time I go for a cold glass straight from the fridge that I'm going to wake up with a soar throat, a runny nose, a fever, or some delightful combination of the three a few days later.Does anyone have an actual name for this condition or a legitimate medical reason, and not a pretentious answer that's accusing us of not "thinking for ourselves?"

Any quick cure for sore throat?

Aside from wearing a scarf around your throat if you are in the cold air conditioning, I can think of no cure that does not involve gargling.

When you break the fast for the night, gargle with hydrogen peroxide. It will taste terrible, but you will get good pain relief. If your throat has become septic, this will help clean it.

You are probably dehydrated. This can dry your throat and cause the delicate tissue to crack, and become infected. When you break fast tonight, drink as much water and soup as you can. Avoid spicy foods and very sugary or salty foods. For one or two nights you can eat only salad, soup and fresh fruit.

If you are constipated, your throat pain may come from a condition called "thrush". You need to have fiber (rice is good) but must remember than fiber absorbs water and you are almost surely dehydrated. You must drink a lot of fluid when you can. .

Tonight when you break the fast, have kefir or yoghurt with cucumber, raw onion, and fresh garlic. Make a cold soup or beverage and fill up on this. Drink as much pure water as you can--this is extremely important--then gargle with hydrogen peroxide after you clean your teeth for the night. Gargle again after morning breakfast.

Dehydration and septic throat are conditions that can cause you harm. If you have a fever, or begin to feel feverish and chilled, please do break your fast. God is forgiving, and you can benefit from the humility of having been too ill to fulfill you inention this one day. It's all good.

Could consuming ice cream or cold drinks cause a sore throat or other common cold systems to appear or make existing ones worse? How?

As a child I always suffered from bad throat infections whenever I consumed cold drinks or ice cream. Because of this, I could never or very rarely (once or twice a year) have ice creams. Although, this problem went away when I grew up, but, this subject has always interested me. There is a mucous lining in the respiratory tract including your throat area. This lining acts as a protective layer and prevents infections. When you consume anything very cold, this mucous layer gets shrinked, and exposes the respiratory tract to bacteria and other microbes which can then cause infections. The only way to avoid it, is to have a good immune system so that you can fight the bacteria attack. Another way which I have heard and has worked for me (but this does not have scientific backing ) is by drinking normal temperature water soon after having the ice cream. I presume, this brings down the temperature in the throat and helps the mucous layer come back for defence and so, chances of sore throat reduce.

How to get rid of a sore throat. runny nose. headache. fast??

Looks like you're complaining of cold and/or sinus infection symptoms. I recommend you drink plenty of fluids (water, juice, etc.) to push that virus to your stomach, take some Vitamin C to build up your immunity; and for short term relief from these symptoms, take any over the counter pseudoephedrine (such as Sudafed, or Advil Cold and Sinus). Just make sure you're not allergic to any of these drugs, and make sure you check with a pharmacist if you are taking any other medications because it will cause drug interactions.
